The Xoom experience

Day 2 and I am considering taking it back today!

With flash 10.3 update installed.

Most tv/movie streaming sites are stuttery and they all stop playing after about 4 mins

Its great for browsing regular sites, email but heck I could do that on a phone

I want functionality and this is not giving it to me...

disappointing experience!!

I've had my wifi xoom for a couple months now and have been pretty satisfied, although there are plenty of quirks that continue to give me trouble, mainly in the browser...occasional lag, instability, AWFULL text entry, etc. Whatever, I've been living with these things and am only slightly jealous of my gfs new ipad 2. Lately it seems like these issues have been creeping up more though.

So today I'm doing some reading and video watching on a few other honeycomb tabs just cuz I always like to see what's out there in the gadget world. During this, the xoom starts to wig out in the browser, before suddenly rebooting. It took me rebooting a second time to get the thing operating normally again

Think my xoom is trying to shield me from the competition, or did it just throw in the towel on itself? :)

I always find these forum's interesting. I got mine 9am opening day, and while I guess I was hoping for sliced bread, its been less than that (though it has made my laptop a paperweight), but my wife has an iPad2 and I have no envy at all, other than maybe certain apps, but those have nothing to do with android. How ESPN's score center can be so good on the iPad and sooooo bad on my xoom is insane, but I deal with it.

I purchased the Thumb Keyboard and I love it, I dont surf the entire web on the browser, but it works fine for my needs, and even as a tech nerd and IT guy, I dont see the lag in mine, or maybe I just dont pay close enough attention.

I think my biggest beef would be video playback. I purchased DVDCatalyst, but I just dont want to take the time to convert all 400 movies I have (maybe lazy, maybe not), would prefer an app that played .avi and .mkv (I have tried several apps, but nothing stands out for me), so I dont have to convert, that and the SD card thing, its not a hardware issue (so they say), its a software fix to make it work, so whats the hold up?

In short, I love my Xoom, wouldn't trade it for anything on the market or coming out soon (Samsung/Toshiba/ASUS/Visio/BB). It suits my needs, and isn't that what all this is about? Does your tablet suit your needs?

to be honest honeycomb was horrible when first released.. the over all lag and browser performance was pretty bad, horrible... but even since the 3.1 update, the browser performance improved so much, i mean i havent had a single force close since the update, also the lag seem to be gone... what version of honeycomb are you running???

I'm on stock 3.1 and do see the speed and stability improvements. There's still hiccups though, and typing in the browser (like I'm doing right now) is just terrible. Ever see a mistake you made and have to tap to place the curser? Dear God!

I'd like to see how the other honeycomb tabs stack up in terms of performance.

I own 2 xoom's but I'm actually happy that Samsung is releasing the galaxy 10.1. It can only help app develment and accessory volume. The specs are almost identical, so anything developed for the galaxy should only benefit the xoom. If I were buying in the next few weeks, I would probably buy the latest and greatest but I'm pumped to be in on honeycomb right now.

Agreed.

Also, I was going to try out a galaxy tab 10.1 but I decided not to. I can't justify the same price but no sd card slot / hdmi port.. Not worth losing 32gb of space :p.

I like the Xoom but here in the UK we are still stuck on 3.0 which is a little buggy - especially the browser.

I'm starting to feel a little disappointed with the experience especially when many have been given an improvement to what it arguably should have been out of the box.

And don't get me started on the SD...

Re your issue with making mistakes and having to tap to place the cursor: Try out other soft keyboards which contain up/down/left/right arrow keys to make navigation a snap.

my friend has a xoom and its pretty cool i suppose i mean it runs rather well and stuff, but what i want to know is what is so special about the xoom compared to all these other tablets, because I thought that the xoom there for a while was supposed to be some sort of super tablet and I dont see much anything more special about it compared to a few other brands that my other friends have.

Honeycomb is terrible. It has lost functionality that android 2.2 had. If I don't get LTE soon, I am probably going to see if I can take Motorola to small claims court. I turned the network off because it is a complete farce to pay $20 a month for 3g data. If I can't get to a wifi hotspot, this thing is nearly useless other than to play movies.

I just use my Rooted EVO and get Free Wireless Tether (even @ 4G speeds, in my area pretty good). I get 12mbps Down and 5mbps Up, not bad. Funny thing is my daughter has the Nexus S 4G and she gets Wireless Tether WITHOUT ROOT. I wish Google wouldshow some Love to the Xoom as they do their Nexus phones. The Pure Google Experience on the Nexus S is Awesome, on the Xoom it's CRAP!!!!!
