O-H...I-O
I take my phone off the charger between 8:15 and 8:45 and it's dying on me by 5:00. Today it went kaput about 3:00, and this is what I did: 10-12 Words With Friends moves, 3 text messages, browsed my FB news feed for 1-2 mins, made one FB group post, checked webmail 3x. Yeah...that's it...not even any phone calls. I am in a 4G area. Does this sound normal, or should I try swapping something out? If so, what - phone or battery? TIA :)

That doesn't match my experience. I used it today all day at work, browsed the internet, checked my email, played with some of my widgets (weather, facebook, etc) did some text messaging, played Robo Defense and made a call on it and it was still >60% battery when I got home after my 8 hour shift. And yes I'm using 4G.

I suggest turning off everything you're not using (GPS, WiFi, etc...) and set your display to auto brightness with power saving turned on (which can be found at the bottom of the display settings.

Extended battery will solve all your problems. Got it about week after getting phone. I turn on my Charge at 7am and right before bed 10pm or so still at 30% - 40%. Until batteries can catch up w/ the technology this will always be an issue an every smart phone. Just spend the extra cash for the extended battery & cover and you won't have the little guy on your shoulder saying " don't use your phone or your battery will run out." We use our phones for so much more these days that of course our batteries don't last. It sucked forking out the extra $$$ for it, but it was darn worth it & glad I did it, you will be to. Man... Verizon & Samsung need to pay me for this post..LOL

treb, that is good news, I just got it today, I think it looks great, i will put it through the paces.. Heck yeah, VZW should pay all of us, free advertising. I spend time in VZW schooling their employees on the Pros and Cons of the whole product line, I wish they would pay me for the free advice they get all the time. After reading all the posts here, I get smarter on phones every day.

I think the keys are keeping the wifi, gps off when you do not need it. K9 email also allows you to set a sync time for your email so that the phone is not always pushing the it. This is nothing different than I have used with any android device.

Keep in mind that verizon is constantly messing with towers as it is tweeking 4g service. I noticed a dead spot on my way to work today. It went from 4g to 1g for a bit and then back to 3g where it usually is at work. If it is showing 1g or nothing it is searching and will suck the life out of a battery in no time.

My battery performance is just about where my droid X was with compariable use. I can pretty much easily make it through a day unless I run the gps then it will go down fast (like any other phone).

My concern witht he extedned battery is it makes the phone huge. I think they need to design phones better so that an extended battery does not make the phone bulky. I liek the X2 extended battery concept, it adds less than 1mm to the phone. Somewhere there is a happy medium, design the phone and cover so that the phone looks proportionally thicker. The X/X2 extended battery to me shoudl be even another 1mm thicker so they coudl get a few hundred more maH in there and you have a nice design.

get juice defender. I'm a fairly heavy user, and with JD it lasts all day+ for me

I will have to try this, thanks!

Make sure that where u keep the phone is not sending it into search mode.don't hide it in a low signal area

It's not, I have a strong signal where I live and work.

I don't have WiFi on, but turning off GPS is the one thing I'm not willing to do to conserve battery. I did that with my Samsung Fascinate and when it was stolen, I really wished I hadn't have, because I discovered it only 10 mins after it was stolen. Had it been on, there's the possibility that the police could have found the guy because I work with a friend who uses Latitude, and we were at work when it happened.

Are you auto syncing a lot of stuff? Hopefully it improves for you!

Nope! :( Just my Gmail, and weather every 3 hrs.

My concern witht he extedned battery is it makes the phone huge.

Same here. I'd rather not have to resort to adding any extra bulk to the phone.

Last night just before I went to bed the battery was at 94%...8 hours later, 36%. How did it burn up 58% while I was sleeping?! Then after another 10-12 Words moves, FB check, and webmail check...down to 16%.:(

This is definitely not right. I have had my phone off the charger since 8am this morning and now after over 2 hours of being off the charger, I am sitting at 95% battery. And that is with 4G on and me sending about 6 texts and checking my email twice.

I would definitely take this into Verizon and possibly get a new battery. What you posted I haven't experienced at all since I've had my Charge. If it was my TB, then what you posted would have been accurate. :p

Whoa that's pretty amazing! I didn't think I'd installed anything that could be eating up the battery in the background, but maybe I'm wrong!

I had the thunderbolt first and exchanged it for the charge due mainly to the battery.

My charge battery is so much bettter than the tb and actually lasts a lot longer than I thought it would compared to other android smart phones I have owned. I was at my barn for 4 hours yesterday where service is very spotty and my charge battery held up great. The tb kept searching and would be on 25% within 4 hours.

Maybe go to your store and let them check your settings and your battery. I really do see my battery life getting better each day I use my phone.

Good luck!

My battery has been hit and miss lately. What I noticed is some days the phone feels warm adn the battery drops for 100% to 66% in 90 minutes with minimal usgae. What I did find was I think the email app is eating battery. Even though it was not showing high in the battery usage it seems each time I had battery issues the e-mail was running. I killed e-mail and the battery seemed to cool down and battery use slowed. I was unsure and had issues backing up my phone so I accidently bricked it so it went back to Costco last night (day 14 on my contract) so I cancelled the contract and will reevaluate my decisions this weekend. I'm back to leaning toward an X2 with extended battery off contract until the Bionic ships then get a Bionic on contract and sell the slightly used X2. I already have the $19 charger kit for the X2 since I ordered that before I knew which phone I was getting.

I would uninstall the words with friends as that maybe your culprit. I know when I had it on my bolt and kept it running in the background. It would keep checking if the other person made a move. So worth a shot to take it off for a few days. As far as juice defender I saw now difference in battery life over it not being installed. It said I was at 2.0X savings and they battery performance was the same with it not installed. I look at it as a program thats using power so how are you saving power. Hey thats my personal feelings on the program.

I noticed a good spike in battery life. I attributed it to the android upgrade that hit my phone last Friday. But Monday, my Charge was back to losing 10 % an hour without even turning it on. I need to take it the Verizon, but I fear they tell me that "this is just an issue with the Charge". I am new to the smart phone stuff, but I have tried several task killers to eliminate the issue. No luck so far.

On a side note, I have my display turned to auto, and it still consumes up to 70%-72% of my battery life.

Please help with any thoughts.

I personally don't like auto brightness and I think it drains battery. With auto brightness, it is constantly adjusting your brightness based on the lighting of where you are at. I would only imagine that constantly adjusting the brightness is taking some battery life away.

I just prefer to keep it on a set brightness. For normal stuff I just keep it at about 30% and I haven't had any battery life problems.

One thing I see is if the email app is open it tends to burn battery even though it is not showing up high in the battery usage. I don;t understand how Apple can make a phone thet blazes through a day of heavy use and no maker can do the same, use 4G can eat battery, but all these phones are thin and add 1-2mm and a thicker bigger battery and your customer will be happy. Want to win Apple customers build a device that competes tick for tick with Apple. These device have Apple beat in many ares, but if the phone won't make it through a day why do I need it?

My phone makes it through a day with minimum 20% battery on the extended battery. I am probably on mine more than any of yall. One thing to keep in mind though is the biggest culprit is the screen. Just look at your battery usage screen and it will tell you that.

But if I can survive a 12 hour shift in the ER without charging my phone really you are doing something wrong. I look up drug information, upload dictations, listen to the radio, read my news, check my emails every 20 mins, surf the web, read forums. My phone gets some serious play time and my battery survives.
