Help SG2 Battery dies in 10 hours?

dude....chill a bit. batteries usually get better after a few cycles, dont think the first charge will be the BEST one....its more so the WORST one. watch it after a few.
secondly does it get REALLY hot when in use more than in idle, as in...so hot you cant touch it? if yes then both issues could just be a faulty battery.

where did you buy it and what warranty is there with the purchase? see if they are willing to at least swap the battery for another (if they wont swap the phone) but most on here dont seem to have too much issues with a replacement from stores.

Sounds like an app background process is hung or running in the background.. Download watchdog and take a look at some of the processes running

i was getting an OS Usage of 30% so i think 18 is alright depends on how much u use it too, of course.. i use it a lot, coz its new n im working with it pretty much right thru the day, n i got around 10 hours out of it, with a full charge, with wifi/3g on all the time, liv wallpapers, the works.... i also wonder if this is normal

about the heating, i noticed my phone heat up randomly too.. its definitely some app causing it, coz i just close all my apps n just let it idle, it cools down completely.. i havent been able to identify which though

well auto sync does drain ur battery faster.. but using mobile data should not heat up ur phone.. u should try to identify which app is causing the heating.. coz the heat is definitely caused by the CPU.. maybe the app only works when 3G is on?

Your phone shows "awake" almost 100% of the time. Thats the problem.

Hi got my SG2 yesterday and noticed the same battery drain and heat.

I found the heat stopped once I turned off the 3G data services under networking. I only turn it on while I need it. I also turn off wifi if not needed.

Edit: One of the battery monitoring apps I got shows the temp of the CPU - mine is around 35c

Hmmm not just a app but more like when the processors kick in. Play HD games and u really feel it.

You need to identify where on the phone the heat is coming from. One of the early suggestions was a faulty battery - but I highly doubt this. It sounds like the chip is being taxed by an app or process.

My advice would be:

Start from fresh, then download an app at a time and keep an eye on performance.

I had similar problems. First time using android phone or any smartphone. I needed to charge the phone 3 times in two days. Now it lasts about 4-5 days/charge.

Here is what I did to get a max battery drainage of 20%/day :
1. Gingerbread 2.3.3 has an inherent problem which drains the battery super quick. Go to Settings>accounts and sync: uncheck both "background data and auto-sync".
*Note, if you install apps from android market via pc your apps will not be installed until the syncs are enable or if you use wifi.

2. Remove those live wallpapers, opt for darker (black wallpapers)

That is about it really. I only enable background data and auto-sync when I'm on the move and not in front of the pc. Last thing I want is pop-peeper and my phone notifying me of mails. When I am out, half a day with notification on, battery usage can be up to 20% but it still should be enough to last a whole day on one charge.

just some feedback on the topic rather than starting another battery thread....

i just got my phone 3 days ago.
1st charge up after the box....i when NUTS, pumped up the display, had the sunburst wallpaper, got and played with some apps...most of the day i was like golem with the precious.
I got ABOUT 12 hrs out of it (dont have a screenie)

So, let it die out and charged it fully (power off). took about 3hrs.
This round i turned alot of stuff off, like wi-fi etc...i cant get wireless net out here so its easy to see what is being used when its not just magically connecting when i dont know about it...things can only connect when on my wi-fi. which i left off where possible.



So....as you can see i got around 1 days use.
the flat line is where i just left it on overnight.good to see no big drop!
the sudden drop is where i got up and played some angry birds and pinball HD...now...NOTE THE RISE! No i didnt plug it in anywhere...all i did was clear the memory.
left it for a while and tried out 2 more games (the next slope)
now...after that i just left it.....and it continued to drop (where it changes to yellow)
after seeing this, once again i cleared the memory making it flatline again and pan slowly downward with a bit of messing around like taking the screenies and kies etc....






this was the background i kept it on, a nice dark one. and im still on ginger:2.3.3 with power saving cutting in at %50, screen brightness down low, i didnt make or recieve any calls (no one loved loony today ) and about a dozen or so apps installed.

hope it helps, i dont plan on having drab wallpaper and all setting off or low all the time, just wanted to see what kind of life i could get whilst near new and compare later down the track with different updates.

I have had the phone for exactly 7 days now, and I am very happy to share with you all that for the 1st time it has lasted for more than a day on single charge.

I just let my phone do its own thing.
I would call my usage patter moderate, I am not a heavy user.

I have the Data Network Mode enabled all the time except when I am sleeping, I am connected to EDGE network, as I don't yet have 3G.
The apps which I keep on running all the time are

1.Whatsapp
2.Nimbuzz
3.NoLED
4.Antivirus Free edition
5.Background data sync always on

I check my mails using the manual sync method, I have disabled the auto sync, although the background sync option is always on.
I use the opera mini web browser mostly for web surfing as its quite fast over the EDGE connection. I do not stream music or videos I let my laptop do that.

Other uses for the phone besides calling and messaging obviously, is to listen to music approx 1Hr via Headphone and watching some videos on its gorgeous screen 30-45 min daily. Brightness is turned down to minimum when indoors and at about 30% when outdoors. Auto-brightness is off.
I keep on changing the wallpapers , use both live ones and static.

My findings, happy to report full day usage.

Early firmwares caused my heating problems. My phone never gets hot anymore even when playing games.

After rooting and using Titanium Backup to freeze the following apps, my batter life improved by about 6hours. Phone comes off the charger at 6am and lasts till about 8:30pm with solid use all day.

Wifi Sharing Manager (not needed for tethering)
Wifi Sharing
IMEI Tracker
Social Hub

Wifi apps are faulty and constantly run even when killed. They are not needed to use Wifi Sharing. Looks like they are used for Wifi Direct.

My phone is now 26 hours nonstop in use and has 62% juice left.
I'm quite a heavy user and have many auto syncs in background. (weather, rss, e-mails, stocks), the screen backlight is set on automatic.
With Titanium Backup I freezed, uninstalled and deleted as many stock apps as possible. (There are tutorials in XDA to know which are safe to remove)
Also I have Advanced Task Killer running on agressive mode.
And I have Juice Defender running also.
I refuse to use a black background and have the Solar Winds Live Wallpaper continuously. Because what's the point of having an Super Amoled Plus screen, when you don't use it for your wallpaper?
I was hesitating to install the setCPU app, but I think it doesn't make much difference if you underclock the phone in idle state.
Hopefully this post will help others too with their battery life.

ok seems like im having the heating issue too, when i turn on my 3G. im ok with the battery life, i get about 12 hours a day with a lot of usage so i cant complain i guess.. but this heat issue is a bit annoying.. it doesnt always happen, i use 3G to access facebook or email etc n turn it off after 15min, no problem.. but sometimes when im out, n i use 3G for maps. location n Google Places etc, i notice the phone heat up. this morning i also noticed it when i had this app running which updates stock prices (its continually updating) but it doesnt heat up on wifi. only on 3G. it doesnt get too hot to hold, but its definitely hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold.. n it doesnt cool down too fast even after i turn off 3G, it takes a while, or i have to turn off my phone for 5min to get it back to normal temp. norton mobile utilities app gives the temp 41C.. usually it runs at 20-25C, or 30C max. please help!
