Help Email - Delete from Server leave on phone

I've seen similar threads, but they were confusing and long, so let me try afresh:

1. I was a Blackberry user, and I access 3 Pop3 (not Gmail not Exchange not Outlook) accounts on my domains (things like xyz@alertcpr.com).

2. Again going back to my BB days, I set my main email client (Thunderbird on my laptop) to delete msgs from the server once downloaded. So I download, they're deleted from the server, and if I want to see them, they're archived on the laptop.

3. On my BB (again with the BB!!), I would download messages from the server before downloading them to the laptop (throughout the day). I could delete them off the server from my BB, or off the BB from my BB, or both. So after I read them on the BB, I'd delete the junk off both.

4. Periodically, I'd download the "keepers" to my laptop, and they'd get deleted off the server, but would STILL be on my BB. That way, the keepers were on my laptop permanently, but still on my BB for a while till I deleted them manually. Usually only for a few days. Worked beautifully.

SO, my requirement is:
Once messages are downloaded to my Epic, they STAY there, even if I later delete from the Server. I'll delete them from the Epic manually when I'm ready.

Easy, right?

Can't figure it out. again POP3 accounts on my email hosted server, not using IMAP, not using Gmail. But whether I set the Epic to delete from the server or not, Whenever I DO delete from the server, they are GONE from the Epic.

How do I keep them on on my Epic after deleting from the Server (after downloading to my laptop)?
