I have no Experience with samsung android phones but I am very pleased with what I've seen on youtube... I love evo an it would make sense to stick with htc, but i'm leaning towards sgs2... Any input would be great! Btw, will it be on sprint as rumored, is it 1 or 1.2ghz dual core, and what's the released date or supposed date???

Again, thanks! A4L

I haven't heard of any confirmed release dates for SGS2 on ANY of the US carriers, but it IS expected to come to all of them. I remember there being a post on engadget saying that it will come with a different name for each carrier. This phone is highly anticipated, but wether or not the hype is justified, I don't know.

According to specs on UK SGS2s, it's a 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

I recently saw a review of the EVO 3D, so I hope this helps. I've never seen the 3D capabilites in person, so you should probably play with it yourself before you decide if it's worth it.

HTC EVO 3D review -- Engadget

Hope this all helps, bud. Good luck with the new phone

I've heard several rumors for the Samsung Within (Sprint Galaxy S2) that an "anonymous inside sprint source" says it will be released in July! Hopefully that's true.

I'm officially sold on the sgs2... I love to evo, but based on your responses and more research, it's definitely to phone for me... Main differences: plus super amoled screen, thinner, lighter, supposed better battery,..... I may miss sense 3.0 and the touch capacitive buttons... Officially excited tho

Not to put down Sense 3.0 because it's nice and it's very sense!

But it is supposed to be slightly laggy on the Sensation, so with 3D enabled, what will it be like? (Is 300MB extra RAM enough to compensate?)

And still many reviews still find 3D a bit gimicky. :/

i heard the Evo 3D has extremely bad battery life via the Engadget review. on top of that, it's a much larger device.

just those two negatives alone would sway me to the SGS2...
and, as you see, i went through the trouble of importing an SGS2 for $750 for use on AT$T. i was a previous Evo user with Sprint so i'm even eating the ETF.

do i regret doing any of that? no. and if i could, i'd do it again :)

I'm in a very similar situation. I've been a EVO 4G owner, and had always assumed I'd buy the "EVO II". But I've been uneasy about that ever since learning that it would be 3D, since I can't see in 3D. I realize I can turn off the 3D, but I've always been concerned that more developer effort and features for the phone might be sacrificed to favor the 3D. One thing I liked about the 3D was that I felt HTC would be sure to get a killer camera in the phone since 3D photographing and video would be an important part of the product. I use the still camera on my phone a lot. So I did a preorder at Best Buy the first day they were available.

But the concerns raised in the initial reviews, especially the lens cover--Seems like a bad design to me, especially following on the concerns this raised in the OG EVO. I gather that HTC maintains that it is difficult or impossible to scratch the material of the lens cover in ordinary use, but I still am concerned that fingerprints or other foreign junk will get on the lens cover (one of my bad habits is web browsing on my EVO during lunch, and I have gotten spilled soda and other foodstuffs on the back of my phone!). At least one review suggested that glare caused by the lens cover was lowering still picture quality. And it doesn't appear that the camera is awesome--One thing I do envy the iOS users is that the iPhone 4 camera is quite good, I wish we could get similar in an Android phone!

This, plus the announcement that there may be two comparable phones coming to Sprint in the near future made me broaden my horizons, I had literally done no research into alternatives till the first hands-on reviews were published. I initially was interested in the Photon, but I believe the S II looks better, even though I may miss the dedicated camera button. I'm _NOT_ going to get the EVO 3D asap, as I had intended, but am going to wait. It's still conceivable that reports from actual users (and perhaps hands-on experience at the Sprint store) will lead me to get it, but I'm going to wait and see if the predictions of a late July launch for the S II come to pass. If there's not an S II date officially announced by the end of July, impatience may get the best of me and I may still get the EVO 3D. I do like Sense, and some of the changes in Sense 3.0 look attractive (though I suspect the resource demands it makes may slow down the 3D, user experiences here will have to confirm or deny that hunch).

To summarize, I am leaning towards the S II now, but it's still conceivable that I'll go for the 3D if my concerns end up not to be an issue.

Almost verbatim how I feel. The whole post.

As a person who's been through a couple Samsung Android phones (currently an Evo 4G owner), and having a brother who has gone through 4-5 Samsung Android phones on different carriers, I simply will not have one. Say what one might about it, but in my experience (and that's all this is...my experience), HTC simply builds better phones.

Is my Evo perfect? No, but rooted and customized to my tastes it comes pretty darn close. My Brother just got an HTC Sensation, and after they've been out a while, and maybe moved to the second or third hardware revision, I'll may very well get an Evo3D, though I may never even enable any of the 3D functionality.

I already know folks that have them. If you know how to configure an Android phone, the battery life is not at all worse than the Evo 4G, and it is so much faster that it is just ridiculous.

Finally, I've been reading this in posts for the last few years and just want to say that if on your list of what makes a 'better' smartphone you have 'thinner' as a plus (or minus for that matter), congratulate yourself for being an Android user who was still successfully brainwashed by the best marketing campaign in history, that of the iPhone. If you really think that your phone is better than that phone because yours is .45" and the other is .50", you are a victim. Get some therapy.

Thank you for your time.

although the difference in size seems minuscule, its very noticeable on these phones. thats not in my top 10 for buying decisions, but it is an attribute. ive got the evo now, slapped a case on it and nxt thing you know its much larger then anticipated...however, i do agree on the htc build quality. ive had hero and evo and its a big risk going to samsung. i especially hate the way its haptic vibration touch feels compared to HTC...i just wish HTC would have stepped up there game with a much better screen. ive got my evo so customized and running smooths as butter that the increase speed i get from 3d isnt even noticeable...(i have not customized a 3d to be fair)...i started this thread and since that time im now leaning towards Nexus prime assuming it comes out this yr and is provided by sprint. it to will be manufactured by samsung...ironically

your welcome for my time :p

Speaking as someone with his first Samsung who also has two HTC handsets, I'll only say "time will tell". After a month of use I have no reason to believe that my GS2 is any better (or worse) built than the Desire Z or Hero that preceded it.

if on your list of what makes a 'better' smartphone you have 'thinner' as a plus (or minus for that matter), congratulate yourself for being an Android user who was still successfully brainwashed by the best marketing campaign in history, that of the iPhone.
Sure, 'cos the only reason for wanting a thin phone is to emulate the iPhone, right?

I tried out the HTC Desire HD a few months ago but found it awkward for comfortable single-handed use, which is important to me. The lower profile of the GS2 eliminated that issue, meaning that I could enjoy a 4.3" display without compromising functionality I need in other areas. So nothing to do with being "brainwashed" and everything to do with personal choice.

By all means compare the GS2 with the Evo 3D, as that's why the OP created this topic, but simply posting to knock one over the other is neither helpful or welcome.

I've been checking out both the SGS2 forums and the E3D forums since I'm probably going to end up with one of these two phones a few months down the road. Seems like both are very solid phones with very minimal issues.

With the E3D you get qHD resolution on a display with good color accuracy, fast dual core processor, sense 3.0, excellent in hand feel/build quality, and good battery life as long as you aren't using 4G (because battery life on all 4G phones suck). From early reports most users are pretty darned impressed with the 3D feature even though most seem to think they probably won't use it that much (I know I wouldn't).

With the SGS2 you get the fastest phone on the market with a screen that has unmatched contrast ratio. It's slim and has good battery life, better than the E3D on 3G. Very good camera and video quality.

I thought the initial reviews on the E3D were pretty bad. They evaluated one feature of the phone (3D) and rated the phone based on that (engadget and gizmodo in particular). I'm waiting for anandtech's reviews since they do the most disciplined reviews of smartphones of any site I've found.

I'm primarily upgrading because I want more speed for surfing the web. Because of that I'm leaning toward the SGS2 but I love the in-hand feel of the E3D and that qHD resolution.
