So today I just got word that I can use my dad's upgrade. Which leads me to the dual purpose of this thread. First of all I have no idea which phone I should get now or if I should wait for something to be released. That's where you guys give me suggestions

. The second purpose is to say goodbye and thank all those that helped me with rooting and romming this beast especially Steven Colchiro and Meta. Without you guys I would be running a phone bogged down by MotoTrash

I'd be tempted to hold onto the upgrade and wait for the Bionic's release. Bootloader status is unknown, but personally, I'd find it worthwhile to find out before I jumped ship from Motorola.

Eh i might as well get something now because it's not worth waiting for extended periods of time as something new comes out every other month

I am in a similar situation. My wife wants an upgrade and to try and coerce me into paying for it, she is trying to get me to upgrade to the Thunderbolt and let her take over my X. Verizon keeps sending us all kinds of upgrade enticements and they get conveniently left laying around where I will see them...

But Gingerbread has renewed my love affair with my X and now I really am not inclined to do anything right now. Maybe I will just wait for the Bionic.

This is only partly true.

It's true that stuff comes out all the time, but that doesn't mean that there aren't strategic periods to wait it out for.

at this point...my droid x is just fine. i use to upgrade EVERY time a new phone came to verizon. but with my asus transformer, droid x and my laptop...its beginning to feel not worth it. plus i have a htc view (testing) and a galaxy tab sitting around. i dont want a front facing camera for my phone though....

My thought is that the Bionic might be worth waiting for. The Charge looks nice, but I don't quite trust it yet. LG Revolution is another possibility. If it were me I'd stick it out for the Bionic and see what else leaks out between now and then.

Personally, there reeeeeeeally isn't anything out yet, that makes me really want to upgrade. As I understand it, Cyanogenmod 7 may be available for the dx soon, which is pretty big news. I gueeeees, personally, I am waiting to see what the Targa/Samsung Galaxy S2 is like. If I was going to upgrade now? I would probably get either the DX2 (beautiful screen, gingerblur, dual core processor, etc), or the TB great 4g, unlocked bootloader.

I'm waiting until this is released: dual core processor, 4g capabilities, large high res screen, front facing camera, and an unlocked bootloader (or at least 2nd init abilities if a Moto phone).

I don't think there is anything out there right now that meets those requirements. Until there is, the DroidX works great. I can be patient. I think those are the next "big" things in cell phone development at the moment and to get a phone right now that doesn't have all those features is just wasting an upgrade IMHO. Of course you may feel differently.

I'd wait to see when the Bionic drops. I have a thunderbolt and its faster than the X out of the and with a few roms, the battery life is ok with only one Rom I found (still get about 25% less than I did with liberty on the X) overall I like the phone but I loved my X. The hardware quality is lacking, its twice as heavy as the X yet half as durable, the X was very light but it felt like a tank. In less than a month my thunderbolt looks worse than my X did after 9 months. All in all I say wait for bionic, if you can't wait then I'd go with the thunderbolt over the Samsung or LG pieces of crap.
