Help Display Won't Turn Off, When on Call

So, I have started to notice recently that when I am on a call and the phone is up to my ear, the display stays on! This has caused my cheek to hit "end call" MANY times. It wasn't always like this, I just noticed that it has "changed" recently.

I now use Dialer One [if that matters], but the problem started BEFORE I switched from the standard/stock dialer.

You use a screen protecter? Mine does that cause tthe screen protecter is too thick for it to work right.

Tumeg, i just logged on to post the exact same question!!!!!! I couldn't believe i saw your post. My battery has been dieing real quickly lately and i think thats the cause.

maybe like "odnerd" said. Did you just buy the Ringkle case w/ screen protector? i did but don't know if thats the cause. A screen protector has never caused this before for me. but if you have the same one that might answer our question (i don't want to take of to test because i have no more)

I just figured mine out. Its the Ringke case!!!!!!! it covers the sensor. WTF !!!!!
the second i take it off it works perfect....... that stinks.....

For anyone experiencing the same problem:

Proximity sensor not working after update - Android Forums

It had nothing to do with the update. My proximity sensor was dirty.
The proximity sensor is at the top of the screen under the glass just above the Verizon logo. I was able to spread the seam open just a bit and blow compressed air in the seam and clean the sensor off. Can air will also work you don't need much air pressure.

I have had this exact same issue with 3 out of my 5 Thunderbolt replacements. Yes, i got it brand new and yes i've had FIVE replacements since. three of them had this same proximity sensor problem. The sensor is under the ear mesh at the top. Whenever i had to use the phone tucked between my shoulder and ear the sensor would not pick up and the screen would come on...and my face pressed against the glass would end calls, mute or speakerphone calls, move the app icons around the screen, open apps, etc. I can't use a bluetooth earpc because i can't have anything inside my ear (causes infections...which sucks) and i wear glasses so an over the ear bluetooth doesnt work either. So I have to manually turn the screen off while on a call and sometimes that works, but mostly the phone just wakes up again without me having to manually unlock the screen. which kind of defeats the darn purpose of that screen lock for me! So i may have to change phones. Again. This happened on the Moto Droid too, so i switched to the Incredible, which had other issues but not this one. I should have stuck with the Incredible.
I love my Tbolt. i just can't use it. I have other probs too with random reboot and random messaging and random apps opening (visuall onscreen not in background) by themselves too.
