Evo 3D 'pro' reviews

PhoneDog first impressions:

HTC EVO 3D First Impressions | PhoneDog

3D headaches, LG Optimus 3D images much better, "Call quality is clearly not the focus of this device" are highlights, but something new - lag attributed to Sense 3.0.
Ok, I am officially worried. Phone Dog is fairly reliable & that link is concerning to me. :(

I can't wait to get it. I already ordered 3 batteries and a wall charger off Ebay for 15.98 and then I ordered an extra wall charger separately for 5 or 6 bucks. I know there cheap generic ones but I have 2 for my EVO now and the other night my regular battery died and I had to swap out 2 ore batteries within a few hours which sucked but it got me through the night. I was at a concert taking pictures and uploading to FB.

One of my boyz manages my local Sprint store and he allowed me to check it out today and here are a few brief observations. The phone feels different/better in your hand..... lil narrower. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference but it does. The display is sick..... crisp is the word that comes to mind. Its also very quick/responsive to the touch.

Was told the battery sux though which really isn't a surprise. Overall, i like what i saw in the 10 minutes or so that i played around with it. I currently go thru 2 batteries a day with my Evo and will probably wait til I can get extra battery and wall charger before i step up to 3d.

3 batteries? Isn't that a little extreme unless you go to work and plan on shooting videos in 3D, watching the Green Hornet everyday, recording in 3D, and playing 3D video games at work too.

Just to chime in on the battery. I have the 1750 mah battery from Seidio in my EVO. If people are getting about 5 hours out of the EVO 3D with a 1730 mah battery, that sounds about right. I get 6 hours out of my battery if I'm on the internet nonstop. I like to test my battery to prove Seidio isn't a scam in regard to their batteries. Think of the 5 hours you get out of the 3VO as nonstop usage.

I'm going for the 1900 battery from Seidio. It's apparent once people pick up the 3VO they cant put the phone down. Then people say the battery sucks. That's how I'm interpreting those reviews.

Will we be able to do screenshots on the 3VO without having to root our phones?

It's nice to see something positive written about the new 3D Evo. I am figuring it will be like any other new release. There will be certain qwerks that will get worked out by future updates. What worries me is the problems that the future updates can't fix. It's good Sprint gives us the first 30 days with no risk to play with phone and see if it will work for us.

Nope these cheap batteries don't last as long and last year for my EVO I had 2 plus a charger plus my extra one from my TP2 and it was just enough. I am always on my phone Facebook internet texting emailing taking pictures if out. I use it so much. I listen to music. I am not always by a plug like when I go out at night. Plus he is getting the same 3 batteries and charger. It was only 16 bucks for 3 batteries and a charger.

Sweet review. You know people can knock the battery all they want. Blah blah blah....the thing is a beast and like you said WE EXPECT IT. But look at the up side! Powerful device. I have a charger at home......one at work and one in the car for my work commute. I'm currently using a crappy Optimus V and have to charge it......so I expect the same with the EVO 3D!

Thanks for the info btw!

Ok, I am officially worried. Phone Dog is fairly reliable & that link is concerning to me. :(

Bro, don't worry too much about what you read. Just purchase the phone and determine for yourself if it is good enough for you. Don't put too much weight on these reviews since they are just someones opinion and thats it. These reviewers aren't the gods of the smartphone world, they are no different than anyone else. Hell, to be quite frank, some of these reviewers come across as total idiots but thats just me. Anyway, nothing is gonna stop me from purchasing the phone and if for whatever reason I don't like it then I will simply return it and move on to something else. Remember, sprint gives you 30 days.

You remind me of Chicken Little and you worry too much? Arm, how old are you brother? If the phone blows (which I doubt). My buddy with his iPhone is going to give me crap and I will have to just take his BS.

Give armageddonx a break, not everyone is as sure as you guys are when it comes to buying the phone. He has every right to be concerned, its his money he is spending after all.

Thank you, themuffinman75, I appreciate your advice & understanding. My comment was not meant as an insult to any device. I was simply voicing my concern. Phone Dog is one of the few review sites I tend to put some weight into. I am eagerly waiting for the Phone Arena review now also & the full review for the Evo3D from Phone Dog. I assure you it's not my intention to make waves or to sensationalize the situation.

You make all the waves you want so long as you keep within the forum rules and stay polite.

The phone's not out yet, we have faith - but we don't know yet how it is. You have every right to question claims on this phone - whether those claims are positive or negative.

Attacking people and not the issue can net the offender a vacation from the forum.

HTC EVO 3D Review - SlashGear

Slashgear had some really nice things to say about the EVO 3D. Outside of the camera however. But apparently call quality wasn't an issue.

This is getting ridiculous how all these reviews contradict each other. I've seen some praise the camera while others bash it. Some say the screen is indeed "Super" while others are not impressed; Some complain about voice quality and connectivity being dismal and others have no issues with it, and the battery is anywhere between horrible and pretty good according to these reviews. I've even read one review complaining of a slight lag in speed, and lets not even bring up 3D.

At this rate, by the time we get our hands on it the only consistent spec of this phone will be its physical dimensions and the name.

Ugh, the 24th can't come soon enough :(

This is a very important release. Probably the biggest smartphone release of the year. Everyone wants a piece of it, for better or worse, for good and bad reasons.

Think of how many more hits sites get for covering the Evo3D. How many people now know the Engadget reviewer's name because of the Evo3D review?

Big releases always have big contradictions among reviewers. Some people are weak minded, and buy all into reviews, while I think most will stick to their game plan and get the Evo3D, or at least lay hands on it before making up their mind one way of the other.

Sounds pretty mediocre overall. I think as long as someone has not experienced the performance of a Cortex A9 based device, they will be fine will the 3D's A8+ performance.

With the recent Gingerbread update, I'll hang on to my 4G for a while longer and see what is coming out in the 2nd half of this year.

First time I've heard explicit mention of a software 2D/3D toggle for pictures in the gallery app. Very nice.

And wow, they put the phone on a bunch of landscaping rocks (even screen down) for the photoshoot. Made me cringe, though I'm sure they were careful :)

Out of all the sites offering phone reviews, I trust cnet the least. Have you watched one of those video reviews? Theyre abysmal
Usually CNet does more of a review. Their Evo3D review was short and to the point. A little disappointing in my opinion. It was more of an overview of the phone compared to, for instance, their Sensation review.

The Sensation got the same "Star" rating as the Evo3D but got Editor's Choice. Interesting to me because the two devices are so similar.

Well good or bad reviews I can't wait till Friday and I still say spec wise and not caring much about the 3D part of the phone it's going to be great. I am so looking forward to Sense 3.0 and the faster processor and more memory. Yes I hope call quality is good and I know I text and email more but I do use it as a phone some and I expect it to be good so we will just have to wait and see. I am not letting any of these reviews change my mind. I still have my preorder and am excited about this phone. I have been reading reviews and watching videos all week. Am just now deciding on which case I want.

It's not really about the hardware at this point, but the software. Tegra 2, TI OMAP, Exynos, and Snapdragon are all pretty close at this point, and if all running the same software, the only difference we can see is probably in the benchmarks. I'm referring to general UI animation here specifically, not games.

Example: I had an Atrix (Tegra 2, A9) until about a week ago, and it's a great phone. But b/c of Blur and 2.2 (locked bootloader :(), I get slight lags when backing out of the app drawer and then trying to switch screens. By comparison, my friend's "old" EVO 4G runs butter smooth on Sense. So for me, it's more about the software than the hardware at this point.

I'd say at least go into the store and play with the Evo 3D for a while, and then decide if you want to hold off on the upgrade.
