Stair Dismount

Thought 'what the hell', bought a couple of the level packs and... yeah, adding a gimmick - be it moving parts or lack of friction - really, really improves this as a software toy/casual game. I actually find it a bit problematic? The regular, completely static levels just seem so tedious in comparison, practically the same every time, that I'd far rather have had the app be paid from the off and include the good stuff. But then I suppose most of the regular joes who use the Market would probably never buy it.

Also, I had no idea you guys do the Zen Bound games as well. Port those? Pretty please? I'd buy both like a shot. Android's almost devoid of properly artistic stuff.

You hit the nail on the head... we tried a number of different business models with the game since its original release on iOS a year and a half ago. Nothing worked as well as giving the full game out for free and adding periodic paid extra content.

This is of course perceived differently on Android, since you're getting 18 months of organic development work all at first impression. All the levels with the different features and behaviors were added to the game in its periodic update cycle. Motion levels and the changes needed in our editor toolchain to make them possible were actually completed only about a month ago.

All the level bundles do have their respective freebie levels available right away, so the players aren't really locked to only static levels.

We're trying the waters with Stair Dismount first (and getting acquainted to all the different issues on random handsets, sigh...) so a Zen Bound 2 port remains technically feasible but it's not what we're working on right now.

Heh, I was being facetious... I mean, I would definitely love to see something like Zen Bound come to Android but I'm sure you have better/more pressing things to be working on. I do have Zen Bound 2 on Steam to scratch the itch, anyway.

About the free levels... my apologies, I must have gone blind there. Had no idea there was a free level for the ski jump and motion packs, I don't remember seeing one but hey, you made the thing, so... The level menu is a little overwhelming, though? I just remember thinking 'Eh, these staircases and such are all pretty much the same - oh, well, I guess I'll click through on one of these big buttons that say 5 MORE LEVELS!!!'.

It's a difficult thing to articulate - I honestly don't mean it to be insulting, but I just don't find the static levels that interesting. I can see players have got some staggeringly high scores on them but they don't feel as if they have the same element of random nonsense that makes the other packs as much fun to play around with. Still, I'm happy with the paid content, so mission accomplished, I guess. :D

Best game yet for Android! Long live Porrasturvat!

can we get the truck dismount levels added soon?

(i already bought all the extra content...)

Hey, we haven't promised anything about Truck Dismount...
Truth be told, we know people liked the original, and we're still in the planning stages about if that hypothetical thing would be better as a separate game or an expansion to Stair Dismount.

In any case, there are updates planned for Stair Dismount, we're doing our best to keep the game fresh :)

I was stuck on hold for like 20-30 minutes today and bored stiff. I saw this game featured on the market and, although it looked ridiculously dumb, I downloaded it. I figured it would be a way to pass a few minutes while on hold.

The game is amazing. I am hooked. I don't know what it is about tossing people down flights of stairs that's addicting, but it is. I'm not a hardcore game player at all, and maybe that's why something as casual of this appeals to me. I can't say enough good things about this game. I've already been showing it to people in my office.

I would suggest a few things to make the game even better though.

1 - Ability to change the value of gravity. I'd pay to able to make gravity stronger or lighter.

2 - Ability to video the falls. I know the game has the ability to play back the fall. I would love to be able to save this video some where on my phone and/or upload it to Youtube or play it back later for friends. I'd pay for this as well.

Gravity modifications, video recording and replay sharing are features that we're constantly discussing, and certainly agree that they would be good features to have.

Finding elegant ways to integrate such features is a big part of the problem (though not the biggest, as in case of video recording) but adding new buttons here and there would not help with the current UI flow, which we professionally already refer to as a fustercluck, in a loving tone of course :)

We do plan to keep on improving the game little by little, update by update.

Speaking of updates, Stair Dismount v2.1.7 was just released. This new update continues the Summer Helsinki Holiday Tour and features a new level, as well as fixes a startup issue that may have affected a number of devices.
