Any apps re-boot ENTIRE phone w/o battery pull?

does this function the same as a battery pull in terms of freeing memory or just making it run better

It should, yes. What type of phone do you have? a reboot is something that should only be needed on (very?) rare occasions.

How do you know memory is a problem? A lot of people fail to understand how Android works and assume that a low amount of free memory is a problem in and of itself. What specific symptoms are you having and how did you determine memory to be a problem? Odds are you have an entirely different issue that you actually need to address if you're having performance issues.
If you're coming from a BB then don't assume that Android works the way BB did.

Really? I didn't know that but I'm a former WM user. I still thought a battery pull was a little more drastic than a reboot based on several comments I've been reading. Are you sure?

Yes, I am. But years ago. DX user for a year. Noticed it gets slow after a while. Went to the Verizon store, they merely took out the battery then popped it back in and voila! Was much faster. Everything worked. They suggested I do a battery pull when this happens -- and that's about once a week!

Don't pull the battery. You should attempt to safely shut it down and power it back on.
Pulling the battery might cause data corruption, since a sqlite database or similar might be in process of writing, or similar. Is it likely to corrupt anything? Not very likely. Can it? Yes.

Never trust a store employee's advice they are underpaid salesmen and generally not very tech-savvy. In my experience anyways, there are of course exceptions to this rule.

I have an aunt who went to them for help setting up email, and her ISP has ANDROID specific instructions on their website how to do it. Because the employees failed to set up the email correctly they exchanged her entire phone, 3 times...... yes, 3 times, replace the phone becuase they couldn't set up email. Anyways, I just thought it was funny

If you use a Droid-X it could very well be memory problems caused by MotoBlur. Blur is known to be buggy in this respect (from what I hear), so a simple power on/off every two weeks or so will probably keep you running smooth.
As others have said definitely no need for a battery pull.
The only time you'd pull the battery would be if somehow the whole OS froze and you were having trouble powering it off for some reason. I think this happened to me once in the last 3 years.

Great advice. Thanks. I will just power down once a week and I downloaded the free version of Fast Reboot, just in case. Seems to free up a bit of memory.
