LTE Tiered Data To Begin July 7th

Business is one thing, price gouging and unrestrained capitalism is another. I'm not a socialist, but you can see the have and the have nots are drifting further apart.

Unrestrained capitalism can?t be tolerated - Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 | 2:05 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun

and socialism works better?

I'm so satisfied that I cancelled my text plan. The mark up is out of control and I won't contribute to it, much as I love texting. If VZW starts to price gouge I am gone. There are alternatives always.

130/month 2 lines, unlimted txt/data and 1400 min
whats not to like?

I can see Sprint going the same way with their pricing. Is T-Mobile cheaper? Not that I would get them, but curious.
Especially with this new price scam, yes T-Mobile is cheaper. I would advise against it though, I'm coming from T-Mobile and hate it. Wanted Verizon for the best network but I rather not be raped this extremely so I might just go to Sprint instead.

problem is, it the new model
soon everyone will be doing it

Exactly. Tiered pricing is good for revenue. Also, it curbs usage so their networks are cheaper to maintain and won't require upgrades as frequently.

T-Mobile has the cheapest plans as far as I know, well right now at least. Who knows what will happen after the merger. If it's anything like what happened between Cingular and AT&T T-Mo USA may cease to exist forcing AT&T's plans and pricing.

I'm currently with AT&T and have plans to run to Verizon as fast as I can. I have the unlimited data plan right now but it seems that AT&T is going to increasingly shift even their so-called "grandfathered" users to their newer tiered-plans since they already have plans to make their so-called "4G" phones have "4G" data plans and means bye-bye unlimited.

If I stay with AT&T, I'll be screwed. If I go to Verizon, I'll be screwed. No matter which way I look, I'll be screwed. ARG!

I put "4G" in quotes when talking about AT&T phones like that because I know that it's not even close to being 4G. More like "3.5G" and even that's being generous.

How much is data on an Android tab? And can you do voip calling on one? This may be a good alternative.
You mean the Samsung Galaxy Tab? I have one on my account. $20/month for 1GB... It's month to month because I bought it outright. I'm taking it off though. I gave it to my fiancee and she usually just uses WiFi anyway.

To be honest , I see this tiered pricing scam driving customers away eventually. I don't have to have internet everywhere I go, as I'm sure a lot of people are the same way. New customers, looking at the "NEW" teired pricing scam, are likely to stay away and long time customers, like myself are just going to say screw it and go back to a phone-only existence !

I'm all for companys making money, but I will not accept getting raped in the process !

Personally put a lot of the blame on Verizon aquiring the iPhone. Verizon knows it will get millions of new lemmings..............err customers, simply because this device has an i in front of it , so they can now afford to piss off existing customers !

The thing is that many are used to it. You may be able to go back to have a feature phone, but even those are becoming scarce. There are many individuals who will find a way to manage with the data cap and do so for the convenience.

A friend of mine has the 250MB package with his iPhone on AT&T. He never goes over because he has WiFi at home and at work. He only uses 3G in areas he doesn't have WiFi. It can be done. I don't agree with the prices and "tiers" (look more like cliffs to me) but they are manageable and I think the amount of people who will be driven away will be minimal.

With the addition of Netflix and streaming, more people using Google Navigation, etc.. I think many people will be able to surpass 2GB given the speeds of LTE

I agree - also - and I see it becoming more of an issue for power, or non-power users is what will probably be the eexponential growth of cloud computing. Having said that - my guess (as much as it sucks) is that the Sprint will at some point - either go to tiered pricing - or keep raising the $10 fee for Smartphone.

I'm hoping this is just a fad and unlimited data will come back in a couple of years. Eventually mobile data use will become so integrated with everyday life they won't have a choice but to do that.

Wouldn't it be great if some company set up WiFi hotspots all over the country that you paid a small monthly fee for and you could use them on any device? That'd get the mobile carriers to bring back unlimited data in a hurry.

Moved to Verizon section as this is a Tiered Data thread and not relevant to the DX

and others werent randomly moved around, only moved to the subforums they needed to be, dialing skype from your android address book is a support question

moving paid apps from one account to another is a tip, and trick. if there is an issue and you feel some threads were moved to an incorrect spot please feel free to hit the report button so it can be addressed, :)

That would be nice. I think it all depends how badly people backlash.

If everyone follows and pays blindly, I would think they wouldn't bring unlimited back.

Who knows. Maybe they will and will charge $100 a month. lol

Would've preferred to wait and see the Q4 releases before upgrading but this news has forced me to get the Charge. Hopefully it's true that verizon intends on letting customers grandfather in their old data plans with phone upgrades because 2gb isn't enough and $30 for unlimited 4g is sweet. If not then in two years I may be looking at switching carriers....

Pardon me for a dumb question (and mods, feel free to move) but how do you know how much data you are using?

If I look at the My Verizon app on my Droid 2G it is telling me that, halfway through the billing cycle, I have used "118272.4 kb." That's 118 Gig! I don't stream anything. I hardly used maps. Some email and a few common apps that have ads, but I don't see how I could be using that much. Am I reading something wrong?

The leaked training info states we keep our unlimited and can still get upgrades without impacting it. If you got the Charge just for locking unlimited data, you might want to return it.
