Yes it is the best thing to do and yes it turns green.

If you call Sprint to activate, you will have to do it on something other than the phone you are activating. I know that sounds obvious but a "non-activated" phone is still able to call *2.

Your contact info should be held in the cloud with gmail.

You can activate your phone on line or with Sprint CS or....

What you do with your old phone is your business....

So once my Evo3D is activated I can leave my old Palm Pre turned on (to manually transfer contacts, calender, etc etc) and it wont effect my Evo3D, correct?

Also, can I activate over a land-line by calling Sprint Customer Service instead of *2?

What method of activation do you recommend?

That is not because the screen is a couple millimeters (or whatever) narrower. It is because the screen has a higher resolution. So 100 pixels on the Evo 4G takes up more screen space than 100 pixels on the Evo 3D.

The first time i watched an HDTV, I said the same thing about everything being smaller. Now I can't watch SD.

Your contacts should be stored in your gmail account. If yours aren't there, you might want to sync it with gmail real quick before you activate the new phone. Then the new phone will automatically have all your contacts, calendar, and all that. No need to do it manually, it's part of the beauty of Android. It's all automatic and all over the air.

I have a Palm Pre. There is no Gmail because it uses webOS. :eek:

Yes, you can activate with Sprint via landline. When you get the phone and turn it on, it gives you the impression you can activate through the new phone....or at least mine did and was not successful. So it gives you a number to call and then you follow the voice prompts. I do believe you can transfer your contacts via bluetooth. And if you are worried that won't happen, I would take it to a Sprint store and let them transfer them.

As far as what method is best....I would say any....they all work.

I plan on transferring my contacts manually. Just by hand. I want a fresh start =) So I'm just going to copy (manually) from my Palm Pre to my Evo3D.

Oh snap, I thought you were coming from an Evo 4G.

Well you can always import your contacts to gmail on the computer (gmail website can import them) and then they will automatically sync to your Evo 3D.

You could accomplish this by either exporting your contacts form the Pre into a file on your computer (not sure how to do this on a Pre but I am almost certain it can be done) or somehow syncing them into Outlook/Windows Mail/Outlook Express/whatever and then export them from there, and import them into gmail.

Isn't there a way to sync gmail on webos? I know even old school winmo had gmail sync.

another good option for transferring contacts to your EVO 3D is to use The Protection App from Sprint and Asurion. DL it from the market, sync it, then download it on your EVO 3D and sync again. I use this app all the time, and it works GREAT! Its got some other cool features too.

webOS only lets you export contacts to other webOS devices. You can transfer via-Bluetooth but only to Cars/Vehicles that are BT compatible.

I suppose I will just enter all my contacts into my Gmail and just Synch it tomorrow when I get my phone.

I would but I am on Sero and will be going to Sero Premium so I want to have confirmation that this will happen. I am a bit paranoid about it because Sero has saved me thousands of dollars over the years.

Yes I do love the overnight sprint does. I also have a case and screen protector that will not get to me until Friday or Saturday and I was kind of planning on having them the same day or before I get the phone.

I'm just happy I will most likely get it before monday. I think waiting the weekend would kill me

I don't want to open the great battery debate but I charge my device fully for a few hours and then discharge it fully and then fully charge it for a few hours again. Puts it through the paces and lets the handset fully realize the battery's min and max values. There is no right way or wrong way as far as I'm concerned, just do what you think is best for you. Just like Flyjbaker put it so well - your phone is your business do as you wish.

Yours should hands free activate when you power it on but I'm going to activate online through Sprint.com Its supposed to be easy and painless. I'm putting the phone on a different line thatn I upgraded.

I did the same when I received my Evo 4G, I used it as a chance to clear out people that didn't need to be in there anymore. Instead of painstakingly inputting them on the new phone's software keyboard I input them into my Gmail through the computer and then synced my Gmail to the Evo 4G and the contacts were automatically added. It is probably a good method for you since you don't have too much to do I bet, and you won't have to wait around for the Evo 3D to show up to get started. I hope you get better quickly and stay healthy for a long while.

you should be able to take the handsets into your local sprint corp. store and they should have a computer to transfer for you. worth a shot to at least call and ask...

Yeah that is always a good option too. They can transfer contacts quick and painless. You always have such great knowledge Marc. Like that one time when you convinced me they wouldn't charge a activation fee for buying the Evo 3D online.

I understand his feeling of wanting a fresh start though. Typing them up on the computer into Gmail.com and cutting out old contacts is the way to go I think. I keep my old Katana in my drawer with a back up of my older 'cutting room floor' contacts just in case I ever need them.
