What's with the quadrant scores on the Charge?

Most reviews I've looked at have the Charge scoring no more than 1000 (give or take a little bit). What, exactly, does this mean? The TB gets far more than that, as does my current phone (Droid X with gingerbread).

What are the implications of such scores?

Also, how fast would you DC owners rate your phone? For having a 1ghz Hummingbird with relatively low RAM, how much lag have you had? Has anyone gone from Droid X to Charge? If so, what are your thoughts?

A lot of questions, I know, but I'm trying to figure out if I should hold out until the Galaxy S2 comes to Verizon.

I went from the X to the charge. The stock IU is a bit choppy (much less so than the stock X). That being said I used LP on my droid X and am doing the same with the charge. I do not notice any significat lag. My wife and a htc incredible which also got terrible quadrant scores (below 900 if I remember) but it always felt snappier than my OG droid rooted and giving me quadrants in the 1300 to 1400s.
With my DX I felt froyo was smoother nicer than GB and the quadrant scores ran 400 or so slower so I guess you cannot really put too much stock in them. I would suggest going to a store and try one out. I put Launcher pro on the store sample and was pretty pleased.

The TB gets much better quadrant scores but I cannot say it feels any faster (I have both right now).

I have both as well and can say I team the quadrant scores on both.yes the tb scored higher and from my experience was a bit quicker overall. Loading programs and surfing was just bit faster on the tb. But not tremendous. We are talking.5 seconds difference.... With that said I'm much happier with the charge. It just works better and it's a worthwhile trade off for me.

From my research and having experimented with each phone, the Charge has a slower File System, RFS, as compared with the other phones that have a better LINUX based EXT4 file system. It boils down to how fast data is pulled out of the file system and loaded into RAM. This can be remedied by rooting the phone and using Voodoo to change your file system over to EXT, see the root section, which will take you to the XDA-Developers section. The program loading speed and data retrieval speed of the device can also be dependent on the brand/speed of the SD card you have installed or received with the Charge. I got the 32GB/2X Samsung SD Card with my Charge, some got the 4X and 6X SD cards. There are supposedly 10X cards out there that totally rock... Hope this helps.

This is correct. Samsung is holding on to RFS for some unknown reason and it's what causes a bit of sluggishness in a stock Charge. Flashing a Voodoo kernel to convert the filesystem to ext4 will bring Quadrant scores up to the 1600s, typically.

I'm wondering if gingerbread will bring ext4. I thought I read where it was confirmed that the Galaxy S2 gingerbread build uses ext4. My suspicion was that Samsung stuck with RFS for the Charge because it's a) Hummingbird based, and b) the ROM is built from Froyo.

Awd, sometimes the manufacturer puts the X on the SDHD card, but most times I find you have to look the card up on the internet. When you are in VZW, crack the back off of the Charge you want to buy, if it is Samsung, then more than likely it is 2X, if it is a Sandisk, you may have a winner on your hands, but I would still look it up to make sure. I wish there was an easy display app that tells you the speed of the card, but I have not found one yet.

I haven't rooted or done any extreme modding to my Charge. All I did was install go launcher and it's snappy as hell in the home screens now. I really don't have any point of reference as far as android phone speed goes but I haven't found an app yet that has lagged while in use or where I found myself twiddling my thumbs waiting for stuff to load on my charge.

I have not rooted my phone yet, really considering the Voodoo file system change and Altered Beast, but I have to agree the only lag I see is when I switch from long browsing back to my Launcher Pro home screen, it takes a few seconds to re-populate the app icons, also the time after snapping a photo, it takes about 4-5 seconds before you are able to snap a second shot...But I agree it is a snappy phone I like it very much.

Definitely this. It's my biggest annoyance but I figure the file system fix probably remedies this. I believe it is due to the write delays with the RFS file system, correct? I'm not yet ready to root and go custom ROM.

That's technically a "redraw" and is usually caused by your phone killing your launcher when it needs more RAM. There's a hierarchy of memory groupings. Each app is defaulted into one of them. When the phone needs memory, it starts at the bottom to see what it can kill and works its way up. By default, the launcher is in a lower memory grouping, so it's killed off pretty easily. Personally, I use the V6 Supercharger Script to "fix" my OOM groupings and stop the launcher from being killed. I haven't noticed any detrimental side effects and my launcher never redraws now. I use the "Balanced 3" option.

The quadrants really do not mean that much. My wifes DInc was pathetic on quadrants but seem more snappy than my og droid rooted and running scores of 1350. I really never noticed a difference in my DX fromn 1350 to 1700. I am rooted on the charge running Gummycharged and his PBJT kernel (not the overclock one) and scores right around 1650. I have noticed an improvement in the phone but is it not twice as fast as the quadrants would reflect. Now the phone is about on par or faster than the TB. Rooted and just using the Lagfix makes this about the best 4g phone available. Not rooted it still has a lot to offer. If you are worried about the quadrant scores running stock just don't install quadrant and it will not bother you. :)

craps... Mine is a samsung card... class(2) I think that what it said (yes, it is so hard to read)...Guess I have a 2X card then....

What the advantage of 10X or 4X card? performance wise anyone notice any huge difference... especially, Camera and video....(how quick can you take a series of still shoot (ie..sporting event)....

WHat is the average price of a 10X and 4X card?

That's interesting. ADW has a System Persistent setting to keep it from getting killed by the OS. Looks like it's being removed altogether, though, because it no longer works with Gingerbread.

LauncherPro and GO Launcher have that setting also. It essentially sets the launcher into a higher OOM grouping, but not as high as the V6 Supercharger script can. Even with the "keep in memory" settings, it's still relatively easy for it to be killed in a low memory environment.

I just got my Charge this week, my card says 32GB and has a 4 inside a circle, I'm guessing that means it's 4x?

Class 4 meets the standards for recording HD Images, but not video. Only cell phone companies say "its good enough". The industry standard for recording 720P is class 6, and 1080P is class 10 if you ask nikon, or even samsung. But samsung doesn't have a choice they provide the chip the dealer wants. Sandisk shows a rating scale that actually confirms this. Sandisk says for 720P you need class 6 or higher. Which is what we record at.
