I have had Sense "Restart/reboot" on me twice now.....I hope this doesn't continue....

Another nugget as it compares to the 4G. You remember how most people were complaining about wifi signal and we basically never got a fix? We just lived with it regardless of whether it was an indication issue or a real one. Well the 3D appears to get/receive wifi signal MUCH better. THis is based on my 2 different phones in the same place in my house on my router.

There is also a spot inside Wifi Advanced settings to check off Best Wi-Fi Performance with a not that it May consume more power. Maybe it boosts the antenna? no clue

Instructions for how to clear your Sense cache to stop that is listed in the Evo How to fix Froyo and Gingerbread thread - suggest giving that a go so you know you have that in hand before further frustration.

Does anyone have the Kingdom port running on their Evo 4G? I had it briefly when it first came out, and I noticed stuff on that Sense 3.0 that is not the same as the Sense on the Evo 3D.

In particular, I thought the icon grid on the homescreens supported 5 x 5 instead of 4 x 4. And the text under the icons would wrap instead of just getting cut off.

And of course we've noticed that Kingdom's Sense has the flashlight while Evo 3D does not.

Sure feels like E3D's Sense is not as good. Hopefully addressed in an OTA.

I'm sure this may be a little too early to ask, but how is the "feel" and durability of the screen? This thing is using Gorilla Glass, correct? Is this material generally supposed to be pretty scratch resistant? Are people planning on throwing a screen protector over this thing?

i have read that it is not gorilla glass ..
the theory is .. because of the 3D tech.. some how made it use other glass tech.

no one knows if the other glass is more scratch resistant than normal glass or not.

A bunch of reviews have said that it is Gorilla Glass. No clue though because they may just be basing that off of the fact that the EVO 4G has gorilla glass as does the Shift. I don't think the 3D tech affects what glass can be put over the screen but don't hold me to that. For what it's worth the 3D glass feels exactly like the OG glass.

Thanks all. Are most of you planning on putting a screen protector on this thing? I currently have a protector on my Hero but I'm thinking of not doing this when I get the 3D. I know many 4G owners were happy with the durability of their screens so I was hoping this would also apply to the 3D.

I haven't seen anyone comment on this yet so I thought I'd just mention I've used Qik once with my wife. We were in the same house but found that the front facing camera gave a pretty good picture of the other person and there were no freeze ups. I plan on using it more but just thought I'd mention my experience with it so far.

I don't know how I ever lived with my blackberry up until now.

I've been using my Evo 4G naked since I bought it. The glass looks exactly the same as the day of purchase. No screen protector here. :)

I think screen protectors are a must have. If you think of how many times you'll have to clean the screen that should give you reason enough to get a screen protector. Everytime you wipe the screen particles will be on it that could potentially scratch the glass. And that's only one of many ways to scratch it. Other's may have different opinions though.

After having the phone now for nearly a complete day, here are my initial negative thoughts:
- I do miss the kickstand. I know there is a case with them, but I always like my phone naked.
- I have noticed when I restart the phone, it just powers down and doesn't power back up.
- The 2D/3D switch rattles a little bit.

Other than that, I have had no issues with my baby. The call clarity or signal strength have been great so far. The phone is super snappy (a noticeable difference coming from an Evo4G). The battery life isn't bugging me or noticeable as a negative (I have been on 15 hours after a full charge when I first got it and I'm still at about 60% charge). 3D is cool, but I don't see myself using it that much except for a discussion piece.

Overall, love it.

I live in the desert where we have sand - one of the active ingredients in sandpaper. I'll definitely be going for a screen protector.

I haven't used a screen protector since my original Touch Pro and have not had one device scratched (knock on wood). My experience with the OG has me confident my new baby will be fine without one. Personally I don't like the feel of screen protectors. Sigh .... I now have a sense of dread that I will be complaining about a long scratch on my screen in a few months

hero no glass protection
evo no glass protection

no scratches or issues with the glass.

I hate the way the protection feels when you rub your fingers across it... naked glass is so smooth.

I also dont like how it "fogs" the view... i know it is very very very small... but after my having a protector for a few months (HTC Diamond) and then taking it off... i could not bring myself to put anything on it. I want best resolution/clarity possible (we all do), but then why would I put on a layer to reduce that?

only have a phone for 1-yr... then upgrade.... why even worry about a few small small scratches? if i ever get one!

I'm going to try to write up a longer review/impression later but I have to say right off the bat:

  1. The screen is beautiful
  2. The 3D is MUCH more cool than I thought it would be
  3. Sense 3.0 is amazing
  4. The reviewers talked a lot about the power button being really sensitive. I'm having the opposite issue. Mine seems very stiff and hard to press.
  5. The call quality is GREAT as is my signal strength. I had 2-3 bars on my Palm Pre and I'm getting FULL bars on my Evo3D.
  6. The speaker is loud and sounds good.
  7. I am a little concerned about scratching the screen. I understand it is not Gorilla Glass so I'm going to grab a screen protector ASAP.
  8. Did I mention the display is beautiful? :)
