Root Will I brick my Evo

Will I brick my rooted Evo if I upgrade to the gingerbread that was released a couple weeks ago. I am having some issues with my Evo and I may need to take into Sprint and I wanted to update the software first. Please help!!!

moved you to the rooting section
welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you do accept the ota you could boink your phone. you need to unroot it first then accept the ota. just keep in mind that if you do accept the ota then you will loose your ability to root again. as the new ota will give you a new hboot and there is currently no exploit found for the new hboot yet.

I followed the steps to unroot the phone, using the instructions I found HERE. The S-ON patch worked, but when I run the reboot and it checks PC36IMG.zip, it says " main version is older update fail! Reboot? Yes/No"

When I say yes, it reboots to a stock desktop, but I cant install the OTA update. It might just be my phone, but I want to make sure. IF both of these is correct, am I good? I still have superuser that works...

ok before moving on do you really want to unroot to acepth the gingerbread update? there are penty of roms out there that have it now. we can also get you a stock but rooted ota. you do not have to unroot. if you do you cannot re-root afterwards. there is no new exploit found for the new hboot that comes with the ota. so if you want still unroot it then please read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. there is a section on how to unroot your phone.
