Help Battery life issues

Sorry if it been posted already...
I would charge my captivate overnight, barely use it during the day at work and it would shut off by 3. (8hours) I just came from a iPhone a couple days prior and this was gonna be a deal breaker. found this and it Seriously has fixed the problem!

1. Connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until it shows 100%

2. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off.*

3. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the battery indicator shows 100% (you can use vol-up/vol-down to make the indicator come back up when the screen goes to sleep).

4. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.*

5. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the battery indicator shows 100%.

6. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it.

Is that saying that there is a software controlled battery recharge limit? Doing this process goes around this I bet. Another thing is that the animated backgrounds use up over 35% of daily battery (according to the Best Buy guy). Cheers!

It is supposed to somehow recalibrate the battery. I can say this, during the week (at work with minimal use) it would shut down after like 7 hours. After doing this calibration, over the weekend (with a lot of use) the battery lasted the whole weekend without a "top off"
This worked great for me!
P.s. I use animated wallpaper...

I gave this a try the other night, it does seem to have extended battery charge on my phone.

Awesome...where did you get it so cheap? I want an extra battery but assumed they were pricey....now there's hope.

I did this battery trick I think it helped a lot. I don't know why it would.

To answer both questions,
you only have to do it once, I believe it resets the the phone Max voltage for the battery (where it takes it to until it stop charging and puts out the "unplug" message. I have only one battery, but I would thing you would have to do it to each. I would be interested if you only did this for one of your 3 batteries and see the difference between them. It rwlkt doesn't take but maybe 1/2 hour and you don't have to do much.

Cool I'll let you know after testing with other batteries. I did get a 100% sign on the battery icon during the second phone off charge... I am pretty sure I have not seen it before.

Thanks. I just saw something on it that for the first year you should do it every 2-3 months then after that about 1X per month(?). There was debate on whether it worked or not on the site I was looking at.

I did it and I really do think it helped noticably. Thanks for the tip!

this definitely worked for me. I had followed these steps and my battery has been awesome since. As of now I am at 75% remaining and have been unplugged 17 hours.

it also seems to have helped the default battery meter seem more accurate.

I got my Captivate a couple of weeks short of a year ago in July.

I, too, seem to be running in battery issues at this point - still using the original battery that came with the device. At night: would shut off and charge device. In the a.m. screen would say 100% charged. Turn on device and the battery indicator already says 1/4 empty.

I'm going to try Hr2Burn's method to recalibrate the battery.

But, in general, how long is the stock battery good for before it stops holding a charge?
