I found out my Sprint multi-charger will not charge my 3D and went to a corporate store where they tested my charger, a new one just like it, a couple of other models on my phone as well as one of the Sprint CSR's 3D all with the same results, it shows charging but it does not charge. I have gotten responses from a few people in another thread but would like to get a more accurate idea of what might be going on here.

I have found that the USB Vehicle Charger PVX9501R from Sprint works.

Please respond to the poll only after verifying your charger does or does not work, then list the model of charger you are using.

Thanks!

Hmm. Bought a new All in one vehicle & wall charger friday with the phone - PRX0310R but haven't even opened it yet. Already have a Verizon one for my thunderbolt but one can never have too many extra chargers around. Maybe I should take it back before I open it since it's questionable...

Give it a try, if it does not work they will give you a refund or exchange.

If it does work that could help verify whether it is a phone problem or a charger problem.

I have some dual usb power adapter from Radioshack my friend gave me a while ago that I used to use for my old phone and ipod. I'll have to try it for this. I'll post my results later when i do.

(And also sorry to go off topic, but can anyone tell me if it's safe to plug an ipod cable into the Sprint usb wall charger that came with the 3vo and charge an ipod? I've always wanted a wall charger for it but the official ones are expensive, and the cheaper ones on Amazon have mixed reviews with some people reporting that it shorted out their battery or other bad things. Just if anyone's tried this or knows if I should do this then thank you.)

bought a handful of these from monoprice and i confirm they charge the evo nicely.

For only $1.13 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Car Charger (Cigarette Lighter) to USB Female Converter - Black | Car Charger Accessories

dont spend a lot of money on esoteric "premium" car charger plugs... dont waste your money.. spend it on a good quality USB cable with filters on them and grab these...

I've been buying chargers, cables, etc. from monoprice since forever. Why pay $30 for the same thing you can get for $1.50 from monoprice, but without Sprint's name on it? Yes, it's really the same thing (we had this discussion when the 4G came out.)

I can report that my cheap ass Micro-USB car chargers from monoprice do indeed charge the 3D correctly, as well as the 4G and my last 2 Blackberries.

Sprint All in One model PRX0310R works fine. Charged in vehicle while driving this afternoon brought it in the house to finish via wall charge. Just turned green.

This is interesting, that is the same charger I have and the same one they pulled off the wall and tried on my phone and another. Starting to wonder if this is a phone issue.

Phone ##data#, View mode, check usb charging. Does that fix this?

And yes, plugging usb cable in to htc charger for iPod Touch works fine.

Charging usb cables need have only 2 wires, hot and ground. I'm still trying to understand how this issue could occur with such a cable.

My guess would be the current that the cables pass through. I have a bluetooth earpiece charger (microUSB) that won't charge phones. But my phone wall adapters charge the earpiece without a problem. I've always assume the earpiece charger had a current limiting circuit, so the phones would pull too much current and the wall charger shuts itself down.

If a charger doesn't have anything to limit the current and the device pulls more current than the charger's transformers are rated to push, at the very least, you're going to get a lot of heat. More likely, especially with repeated/extended use, component failure.
