As far as the SG2, my guess is a 10% chance it has LTE, since a fatter design would compromise Samsung's plans for uniformity of add-ons. They also REALLY want the SG2 to be considered as THEIR iPhone, so standardization is very important.

I wouldn't be that skeptical like 10% on it having LTE. At this point, I'm 50/50 on it but won't be surprised when it turns out to be either way.

Galaxy S is their global flagship phone brand like Apple's iPhone but I don't think they are looking to standardize SGSII accessories like Apple. The original Galaxy S had four variants for U.S carriers last year. It's difficult to keep uniform form factor for U.S carriers as each has different high speed wireless standard (Sprint WiMax, Verizon LTE, AT&T HSPA+). Global SGSII is only about 8.5mm thin, so adding LTE with a few more millimeters isn't that big deal anyway. We will soon know what they have prepared for U.S anyway.

Another factor is that LTE is pretty big deal in Verizon and Samsung is well aware that lack of that feature in flagship device would be pretty big shortcoming for many verizon customers. Also I hear that Korean wireless carriers are pushing for LTE deployment in the second half of this year. So they should have started readying LTE version of SGSII quite some time ago at this point. So I think SGSII with LTE will be coming this year if not this summer.

Do you have any documentation/evidence of this?

I can't believe this if there isn't any support to the claim.

I can not remember the source, so believe it or don't. With the LTE network and chipset, VZW can tell if you are tethering and can then simply reference your profile in their database if tethering is active or not.

The way they do it now is by usage and then cross reference the data base if tethering is active on the account.

No it doesnt. They were saying they removed the tethering apps from the market it had nothing to do with lte chips.

No I don't believe that. No evidence no go.

The other day, I played with my friend's HTC Sensation. In case you're wondering, it's everything it's been hyped up to be. I didn't get to play with it extensively, but it's everything you could want in a phone. As it was the first day, I have no idea about battery life, but it is one amazing device.

This really ups the ante for me. One thing I truly desire is my next phone to be as fluid as the Sensation. That's something I've not seen from any device running Motoblur, even the dual core DX2. Unless what's on the Bionic is completely diff than even that new version, I'm going to be highly disappointed. And I have more confidence that the SGS2 will be closer to that fluidity. However, there's def numerous threads in their forum about unexpected lag, too. Let's face it, Sense is truly the gold standard for custom UIs (but I, like you, would still take vanilla Android any day).

THIS.

I'm tempted to bypass the GS2 and the Bionic and just wait for a kick-ass HTC 4G phone to come to Verizon. HTC phones are really on another level, to me (in terms of Sense software). I'm hoping the issues that the TB had were just a fluke.

I'm eligible for an early upgrade in August but I think I have the willpower to stick with my D1 until as late as February 2012 (yes it's going to take EXTREME discipline).

To anyone who hasn't seen it on Phandroid or elsewhere yet: Samsung Galaxy S II Officially Getting a 200MHz Boost?

Hmm...1.2GHz is already pretty damn impressive on the SGS2. But a bump up to 1.4GHz? It's def drool worthy. This gonna start to sway more people waiting on the Bionic to the Function?

Seems a slippery slope due to the battery size. What will Sammy do to offset the extra cycle power consumption? Make the wifi even weaker and dial down the gps signal too?

Though I only messed with the GX2 for an hour, it was the fastest device I have tested already. Seems Samsung is too obsessed with keeping up and trying to be like Apple. Aint happening (being Apple) and certainly should not happen anyway.

No idea how they plan to compensate battery life. I suppose once you root it, you'll be able to underclock it, anyway. Maybe soon they'll make strides in battery development.

As much as I enjoy tinkering, and love CM7, it really would be nice to have a phone that was just awesome out of the box and didn't HAVE to be rooted.

Also, I really hope they don't make drastic changes to the SGS2 before US release. It will delay the release even further.

Why do all the sites allude to the US version running Exynos? AnandTech had a good article on why Samsung might release an Exynos version and Tegra 2 version. They speculated that the Tegra2 version might be the US version, due to the limited production capacity of Exynos chipsets.

But, Samsung may have corrected that by now.

I only hope GPS is solid and the battery lasts the whole day (not just work day, but from waking up until slipping into bed at night). Oh, and that there are dual microphones for noise cancellation. The Fascinate had way too much reverb and a weak microphone compared to the Thunderbolt. Not horrible, but not the best I've heard.

I may just hold out until the first HTC phone with Qualcomm's Krait soc comes out (dual core, on-chip LTE, which should be a second generation chip). That looks to be 2nd or 3rd quarter 2012--my best guess.

I'd like to see a non-pentile qHD display by then using IPS or SLCD.

Ditto. Would prefer to be able to root and purge bloat, but not mess anymore with ROMS. I got burned out with the Incredible in that regard and now notice diminished returns since the devices and the OS are becoming faster, without the need to tinker.

SGII HAS to have LTE. Would just be totally ignorant of them to have a flagship model that isn't ready for the flagship speeds. If it does, that's what I'm getting. I'm not eligible till end of July anyway and it's overseas getting the bugs worked out already so it should "should" be much more ready than the Bionic whenever they decide to bring it out. I'm soo done with my D1 and its limitations but I'm not going to jump on some POS right away, either and go from one limited phone to a phone with problems. If I wait too long then I'll start hearing rumors about the NEXT beast coming and will want to wait for THAT...to the end that I'll never upgrade, lol. So it's got to stop somewhere and hopefully that somewhere will be the end of July.

It doesnt have to have it and most likely it wont because then people would bitch that they made the phone a little thicker. Most likely it wont be out until aug or september since the bionic is supposed to be coming july 28th.

I still don't get the thickness complaint. Used to be phones were huge, then they became more and more manageable. Then they had to be as tiny as possible. Now they're getting progressively bigger again, but they have to be as thin as possible. Some people want a phone they can barely tell is there, others want a miniature tank (mostly us D1 owners).

Personally, a fraction of an inch isn't going to make a difference. I want the best phone with the best hardware on the best network which would be the best phone. Straight from the Department of Redundancy Department.

Though slim, the SG2's 4.5" display support makes the device "near-awkward" unless you have big hands (or long fingers). A thicker device would add to the handling issue. Folks will see what I mean when you hold the device and try operating with one hand.

I would prefer a 4.3" device that is thicker (more battery), rather than a super-slim 4.5" device, since same total size.
