FWIW, I have had excellent usage out of this battery. Holds a charge for a very long time, included optional door clicks on tight and has deicent anti-slip coating. Had to on-off charge cycle it a few times to get it up to full charge, but once that was done it holds a steady charge. Phone was shut down and then on-off charged. Japanese cells. Been using it for about a month now and is still holding strong.

I bought a similar one (2400 mAH) and find it irritating because of the extra thickness - makes the phone too bulky IMHO. Am waiting delivery of a supposedly higher capacity but standard sized battery - 2430 mAH - eBay item 190540676706. Will report back when I have tried it out...

Battery arrived yesterday AM. I put it on charge in my charging cradle and only inserted the new battery when it was fully charged. It is physically *slightly* wider than the original, so it is a tight fit in the phone, but it does go in & the original cover fits over it no problems. That was about 2pm; battery level didn't seem to drop any slower than the standard one over the rest of the day (about 40% by midnight). But then it is a new battery & only its first discharge cycle.

It has now had an overnight charge in-phone, and I am going to see how it performs today.

The li-po battery I started this thread with really liked being charged on its own circut in the house, it seemed to charge up better. The gold battery Tony posted about is a Li-ion but both constructions charge pretty much the same. I would imagine it would like to charge on its own circut also. Just a thought.

After messing with both batterys in hobby and home, they like to have there own dedicated power supply when charged. If your charger is plugged in next to a 1100 watt microwave, once the microwave fires up it going to userp the power to that outlet slightly. just some thoughts.

The oem battery in the Desire is a Li-ion.

I was working the lipo I bought last night during work and it took a beating. running internet, music, vids, messages, calls, ect. after a 12 hr shift and off and on use, it still had 62% left. the OEM battery wouldn't have lasted 1/2 that long and it would have auto-shutdown.

Once the gold battery gets cycled a few times, it should be able to match that or better. Keep us updated Tony,,:)

Yesterday was first full day - not too great so far; down to 25% by 9:30 pm which isn't as good as I was hetting with the original HTC battery (usually still ~30-40% by midnight).

Interesting "feature" though when I look at the discahrge graph on the phone - in some places the graph has "blips" in the upward direction (increasing charge) of as many as 3 or 4 %. I suspect that there is some electrochemical reason for this but it looks a bit odd - I don't see that at all with the original HTC cells.

Will keep you posted...

Thats standard with a new li-ion battery. after you (or the phone) pulls hard juice/volts from the battery, and then whatever it was it was doing was closed out, the battery will recover a bit. My stock battery as well as this new li-po battery does that also when it searches the grid for a gps sat,,finds one,,locks on,,and then drops it due to LOS,,the battery will jump. That GPS sat auto search is a battery muncher.

The saga continues...

Friday, the consumption rate seemed similar to the original battery. About 11AM had to go out to an unfamiliar destination so started with the phone doing satnav (Google Maps) and not being charged. Saw that the battery was plummeting so plugged in the charger. After the trip was over (1 hour) the battery % was a few points higher than it had beeb before the trip.

By 8PM, down to 25%; however, it only very gradually dropped to 22% over the next 4 hours, so still at 22% at midnight when it went back on charge.

Yesterday, similar picture, but my day started later (the weekend...) & there was 25% left at 10:30 pm. This time, because it had discharged so gradually from that level the previous day, I left it overnight without connecting the charger to see what happened. Gradual decline to 22% by 1AM, then alternating between 22% and 21% until I woke at 7AM. Did a bit of work with the phone for an hour which caused it to drop below 15% briefly (please plug in charger warning) at which point it went back on charge. Fully charged again by 10AM today, and initial discharge looks steep again.

So, it looks like this cell tends to have a discharge curve that isn't very linear - at least compared with the phone's method of measurement - its discharge curve looks steeper when it is fully charged than when it is 3/4 discharged.

More updates will follow...

So not worth buying then. Not if you're expecting benefits.

Actually, it does seem to be giving better capacity than the standard battery, and is cheaper, so yes, I think it is worth buying. Finally plugged mine in at 1AM this morning; it was still showing 22% (had been 25% at 6:30 pm, so only 3% drop in the last 6.5 hours) so overall had kept going for 15 hours and still hadn't dropped to the 15% "charge it now" warning level. You just have to get used to the rather different discharge pattern - it drops relatively quickly to 25% and then the curve flattens considerably, so you really don't have a clear picture at that point of how much time you have left before it bales out. Maybe that will change as it goes through a few more charge/discharge cycles - will keep you posted.

Interestingly, the time to re-charge the battery to an indicated 100% last night was 1.5 hours, and the HTC charger is rated at 1A max. So even if the charger was delivering its max output for that time (unlikely) and there was no loss in circuit heating etc (impossible), that represents delivering 1500 mAH of charge to the battery. More realistically, the charging rate is more like 700 ma, and there are resistive etc. losses to account for, so it is unlikely that the battery actually received as much as than 1000 mAH of charge in that time. Of course, the charging % may be inaccurate (i.e., the battery continues to charge way beyond the indicated 100%), which would account for reports (and my observations) that the battery level can sometimes stay at 100% for 2 or 3 hours after the charger is unplugged.

Charge it to 100%, turn off and charge until green LED. Turn on and turn off after 2 minutes. Charge until green.

See if that makes any difference. Maybe the battery meter is not showing correct %

Does anyone know what the theory is behind this method? I've seen it mentioned in a couple of places now, but would like to understand what the underlying mechanism is.
