Things you DON'T like about your Charge?

How'd you get a 25% discount? I was pleased to find these items in the Verizon store (I mistakenly thought they weren't available yet, because no other online retailers have them). However, when I put them in my "shopping cart" each is $39.99, with no discount offered. The other online retailers have them for $25 to $30, but all show them as "backordered" or "temporarily unavailable" etc.

Working for the government has some perks (15-18%), but with the battery drain problem most 4G/LTE phones have, my VZW local retail store was offering 50% off the extended battery for the HTC TB (They said this was a nationwide promotion not advertised)... Because the TB OEM battery life was soooo bad. When I got the LG Revo and saw how BADDDD the battery drained, they offered me the same deal 50% off of the extended battery or the Cradle/Dock to have a second ready battery. When returning the LG Revo and all the associated stuff, I asked where is the discount on all the new accessories to keep me happy as a customer, so they gave me a 25% discount and said that the Droid Charge did not have the same battery issues to rate 50% discount offered for the TB and LG Revo. But hey, I'll take 25% all day, when Big Reds given something back, you better run with it.

That is why I tend to think the best of VZW when it comes to customer service and network satisfaction, I have had a very good customer service experience. The bottom line is they want to make money and keep you coming back paying those high monthly rates, buying tons of accessories with them. I tend to shop around for the best deals, sometimes with discounts you get them with Big Red and free FEDEX 2-day shipping.

Also if your a veteran you get 25% off on anything you ever buy from verizon, regardless of whats on sale and whats not. As long as your registered in thier system which only requires one of three things. Your Military ID, Your DD214, or a VA ID Card. Present any of those, they register your account as Veteran or Military and anything you ever buy is 25% off.

"Don't like" list is pretty short.

1. Don't like useless GPS. Taking mine back to Costco this week to see if all handsets have this problem - we should be able to get a fix within one meter with no problem, and I'm lucky to get within 30 meters.

2. Inability to sync contacts, calendar etc. with Mac Outlook - but that's not the Droid Charge's fault.

3. It would be nice if battery lasted all day, just like it would be nice if Angelina Jolie would sleep with me. Neither is likely to happen given the amazingness of the Droid/Angie.

This is a great device.

2600mAh battery will help you with that. Also make sure you give the battery two weeks before you judge its battery life. A couple of things that are happening is the phone is learning the battery, and everything has to equalize out inside. The phone will see a higher voltage from a battery that actually isn't fully charged.

I didn't realize that when I signed my contract, and they certainly didn't make me aware of it. But they did ask what company I worked for to see if I could get a discount on my plan. Being a firefighter, I got a 19% discount on my plan, and the same 25% off accessories for life. So that same discount applies to current and former military, as well as emergency service workers. For the latter, you will need a current pay stub, though.

1. The name "Charge." If it was called anything else, it would be easy to find info and accessories online without having to wade through irrelevant junk.
2. Battery drain - Doesn't matter if I have everything off and the battery in sleep - the display uses 70% of the battery. All my display settings are minimal. I use 3G only, no WiFi, GPS, or bluetooth. Returned 1 battery, this one is pretty much identical. I can't believe this phone has a better battery than the others.
3. Time to fully charge battery - There's that word "charge" again. I let my battery go from 100% until it gets low enough so I can't turn it on (2 or 3 times a day), then plug it by a/c with the power off. Nearly 3 hours later, it hits 100%. It takes nearly as long to charge as to discharge.
4. The woman's voice at full charge "Please notice. Your battery is fully charged," even when the phone is on silent. Must get this off!
5. Sometimes gets too hot - Mine often creeps into the red zone, 40C to 45C. I don't like a sweaty ear during phone calls. Returned battery was worse.
6. Can't place or move more than one shortcut on the home screen at a time.
7. Don't have a list of all notifications together, as I did on the Blackberry.
8. Verizon - Signal not as good, and drops. I get spam text messages I never got with ATT. And I can't get to the Internet while on the phone.
9. Keypad keeps disappearing during calls - When I need to keep pressing menu keys, it's a pain.
10. Keyboard sometimes blots out entry area - When there is a large entry box for type, I often see just a sliver of white, and my text isn't going there as I type.
11. Can't do Netflix yet
12. Can't set touch sensitivity. No idea if you can do this with other phones though, but mine is way too sensitive. Sometimes don't physically have to even touch the screen to accidentally open things. Also, too easy to hit a volume button.
13. Text selection in the browser is a bear.

No music widget for stock music player. I know, I know that sounds silly, but I actually like the stock music player and there is no stinking widget for it. That is just crazy. Having a few bugs with my voicemail, but luckily I don't get many so it's not a huge deal. Put GoWidget on this thing and it is awesome. Can't wait to get 4G to really see what it can do.

I was also surprised that there was no music player widget. Then I realized that music controls appear in the windowshade-pulldown while you're listening, which is pretty much the same to me as having a widget. Also, there are lock-screen music controls.

Dislikes:
-- The phone should have more RAM so memory-intensive apps can multitask more smoothly.
-- Lack of an LED.

Those are really my only major complaints. I even thought TouchWiz wasn't as horrible as I anticipated, though I wound up going with LauncherPro, Widget Locker and some weather apps and scrollable widgets from the market to really make the phone smooth as butter and uniquely my own.

Small quibbles:
-- After a month with the phone, I still find the tan/yellow/orange combo jarring. And fugly.
-- The physical buttons aren't very pleasing to the touch. And dirt can collect in the spaces around them.

But by-and-large, I love the phone and I'm glad I decided not to wait for the Bionic or SGSII. There's always going to be something better on the horizon, but I have a big, speedy phone with a beautiful screen and a killer camera now.

I'm sure most of you may know, but for the people complaining about the lack of an LED notification light, check out the app NoLED from the Market. It's a must have for this phone and I love it! I haven't noticed any negative effect on the battery yet either. It's really cusomizable and makes me not even care that an LED isn't on this phone. Check it out!

8. Verizon - ... I get spam text messages I never got with ATT.

This may be a recent phenomenon. I've had a Palm Centro (with no text plan) on Verizon for years, and just got my first couple of spam text messages yesterday. It's not Google/Android related, because I also have an LG Optimus V Android phone (on Virgin Mobile).

Does a carrier with a separate, tiered text plan have any motivation to prevent spam? It seems like text spam is nothing but a Verizon profit generator.

Great list, btw.

Considering the Charge when my contract is up end of July. Like the fact it has a good sized community attached already from overseas sales. If I get impatient, I may just jump on this phone (not literally as I'm sure the plastic would break...).

As for the negatives, is everyone seeing problems with GPS location? As for the NoLED app, what exactly does it do? Add a little 'led' to the screen, lol? How's the batt life with the extended batt and what are you using to mount the unit in a car? And has anyone used Bluetooth audio on it? If I think of more I'll post em....just doin my homework to avoid headaches later :D

NoLED puts a colored pixel on your screen that moves around when you have a missed notification. You can do it for texts, missed calls, emails, etc. You can cusomize the color of the pixels for each notification so you can tell what you've missed.

It sounds dumb but it's actually pretty awesome! You can also set it up to have the time, date and charge level to be on the screen when it's plugged into the charger. To me it's a great app.

I've only had it for just over three weeks, but here is my list, as of now:

1. Battery is OK, Phone uses a lot in just being on.
2. Slow display wake when pressing the power button, reports is partially related to Class 2 Samsung 32GB memory card.
3. No Main/Home or Application Screen Rotation, why not? It did it one in my car, but did go back to normal until a re-boot.
4. No upside down screen rotation, in remote areas, with the antenna in the bottom, you need to hold the phone upside down to get a signal.
5. Ringer Volume to low at maximum level, I may be getting hard of hearing, but more volume is needed.
6. Voice Volume is not as clear as it should be, hard to understand some conversations are garbled.
7. Volume down button is pressed at the same time as the power button, poor placement of buttons, every time I put the phone to sleep, I lower the volume.
8. Experiencing system screen lags, no responses from time to time, it's like the phone is overloaded, or having to swap out memory to perform the action.
9. Phone only has 328 MB of RAM, seems to effect phone response times, and web page activity.
10. No LED Notification light.

Short list for me:
- wish the battery were bigger, the phone is so damn light making it 1-2mm thicker with a bigger standard battery would be amazing and still light. I did pick up an extended battery and cover for when I travel, but don't like running phone naked.

- More RAM, 768MB woudl be good 1GB better.

- And of course Netflix

- More a VZ issue, get rid of all the bloat! Or at least allow me to delete it!

Don't like TouchWiz. It seems slow and sluggish at times, almost as if the thing is doing far too much for its own good. I replaced it with Go Launcher EX and never looked back. Go Launcher EX is much faster than TouchWiz.

The Keyboard sucks. Replaced that with Smart Keyboard PRO.

Battery life... that can suck big time. As one other person said above me, I'd like to see a bigger battery with more life in it that doesn't require a bigger back to it.
