Help Launcher Pro vs Default

I was using Launcher Pro on my Nexus S, since it was literally exactly like the default plus more options. Anyway, I like the layout of the dock here (granted there are only 3 options), but am willing to change to the more simple LP...except how would you add the personalize button to the dock? Does anyone know because its not an app? Thanks in advance.

I didn't think you can personalize from LP...Unless I am incorrect, I'd suggest docking a HomeSwitcher app and personalizing from Sense (the default).

I believe this is correct.

I have LP installed and when I tried to change my skin or theme from the burgundy to blue, it would just send me to the main home screen. I had to boot up the default home to do it and even then I think it still gave me some trouble.

If using LP as your default, can't you still long press on an open area of screen and have the full Personalize app show? I haven't installed LP+ yet, can't verify.

Long pressing will only take you to the Add to Home screen & from there you can add short cuts, widgets, folders & wallpapers.

I use Home Switcher for Froyo to get back to Sense & change the lockscreen.

So I'm contemplating switching to another launcher like ADW or Go Launcher, but does Sense still run in the background if I use a different launcher? I checked my memory and I think I'm using 800mb+ at any given time, so having another launcher running on top of that would eat even more RAM :(

Normally I'd have switched the second I got the phone but I've been playing with Sense 3.0 and it has been nice enough that I haven't needed to switch.

Also, if you use another launcher like LP or ADW, can you still use the shortcut dock on the lock screen?

where can i find that, or what does it look like if its already there?
There is an app in the market called "home switcher". You can have stock, LP, ADW, etc... on your phone. When you open home switcher you choose which one to launch and it boots up pretty fast.

Stock Sense is nice! However, the biggest plus IMO with LP is the scrolling dock! There are other things, but that is my must have...It really is great to have 15 apps at a quick scroll.

Do you have LP as the default? When you first install LP then hit the home button it'll give you the option to pick one of the two. First check use as default then select LP and it should use LP everytime.

If for some reason it doesn't let you. Go into Settings-Applications-Manage Applicatons-All, then then scroll to HTC Sense and clear default. Try hitting the home button again and it should give you the option to choose one.

Yes, Sense will still run in the background. With the Evo 3D's generous 1GB of RAM though, I don't find this to be a problem. A lot of the RAM is occupied because Android precaches commonly used programs, before you even use them -- empty/unused space is generally useless, so it's a smart move to keep a decent portion of the memory space occupied.

Though Sense 3.0 is a big leap up in a lot of ways, I've found some of the new design additions to be frustratingly unlikable (another story for another day, but man, the "paged" app view is TERRIBLE idea for such a large screen device) so I've since switched to Go Launcher on a trial basis.

The nice thing about using an alternative launcher is that:

1) YES, the awesome lock screen (with weather/quick app access, etc.) still remains and is quite functional (one caveat, in order to change the lock screen, you must go back into Sense to reconfigure).

2) YES, the (almost) awesome notification bar with all last use apps, quick access toggles, etc. still remains.

What you lose?

1) The HTC Sense widgets -- scrolling calendar/agenda, 4G toggle widget (this is ok bc they built the 4G toggle into the notification shade), etc.

Yes I've tried it.

I really like launcher pro, but used it on my OG Evo so I want something new and the new sense is pretty awesome. Both are great in their own way, but for now, I'm content with Sense 3.0, when I grow tired of it, but I'm not even close to that point.

I do not feel that launcher pro makes the phone faster, you can tell it's a one size fits all program, if you don't allocate the right amount of app spaces on a page it will look terrible. I like the 3D app drawer a lot though and the amount of customization.

You do lose the Sense 3.0 Widgets, but the full launcher pro comes with some great widgets as well that really mimick and in some cases actually improve options of the Sense widgets.

I don't know if you lose quick settings though, can't remember. Any other factory launcher would get launcher pro'd immediately, but Sense is worth playing with for a while.

I used sense since I got the phone on launch day but I just changed back to LP+ a few days ago. The deal breaker for me is the 4x4 grid. With such a large screen the grid should be more like 5x6 at the very least. I run 5x8 on LP and it looks about perfect. I also like the scrolling app drawer at 5 wide instead of the flip drawer that is in sense. I do wish the sense widgets were still available but most of them have free replacements either in LP+ or in the market.
