CoPilot Live Premium released

I downloaded this and the maps look much better then V8. I like the customizations in V8 over V9 though. I can't seem to figure out how to customize what is displayed on the map screen. In V8, you had an option to display, ETA, Current Location, Distance to next turn, time left. I don't see any of these settings in V9. Anybody know how to select these? I use just the map view and like to see my current location. Thanks

Edited: Never mind, I see it now. You actually have to select a destination in order to choose these options. It would be nice to be able to see your current location when just using the map view. So, has anybody else uninstalled V8 or are you keeping it?

You won't find 'your location' they've removed it altogether

I'm keeping CP8 installed as well as I've got the European maps for that.

What sort of battery life are you getting with the new version?

With the new version open, but not doing anything, my battery has gone from 100% to 57% in about 90 minutes. I remember the battery life with CP8 improved with updates.

any compulsive rom flashers here? i read that even if you deactivate the software on your phone and then reinstall it after flashing, you still reach an activation limit. anyone have any information on that?

I've heard the same thing, and saw someone complaining that they had reached their activation limit without ever knowing there was one. I have used Titanium Backup to backup and restore v8 when switching ROMs, with no problems whatsoever, and it avoids the whole reactivation issue.

So if i restore with titanium it should be fine? that would be good as i always use it anyway.

I'm pretty sure the activation problem with flashing roms is not related to android; if you look closely at the posts from the people talking about this problem, it was from people running Windows Mobile, NOT android.

Not sure about windows but it has been reported by people with android phones.

I use multiple ROMs how can I have copilot installed on them?

Hmm maybe this wont work then... Apparently works with V8 not V9. Or it could be that you have to contact support to have it deactivated everytime which would be a nuisance.

On V8 did you have to deactivate it before flashing a new rom and restoring with titanium?

I stand corrected; I had posted based on my experience with Copilot v8. In V8, the license was tied to your google order number. I found that this process was quite broken; very often when I installed the latest copilot update my license broke & I had to contact support to get them to fix it.

It appears that in Copilot V9 they changed the licensing model to use their own licensing server (it's no longer tied to your google order number.) This was the same system they used with the windows mobile version (which I used to use before I got an android phone). That one was bad as well; if you upgraded your rom or otherwise majorly changed the phone, you would break the copilot license and it was a PITA to get working again.

So in summary, they've switched one bad licensing system for a different bad licensing system.

@unclemike, are you sure that Titanium backup solves this? According to this post someone still had license problems even with Titanium.

Can anyone advise on how to download a second copy on a different Android device? Their FAQ makes it clear that you have to buy a second copy to do this, but doesn't explain the process. I'm fine with buying a second copy, the app is useful despite some significant flaws. I tried downloading the app from the Market on my second device, and I'm confronted with a choice to "use existing Copilot ID" or "create a Copilot ID". I can come up with totally plausible scenarios where either of them is the right thing to do, but also can see ways that either can create a mess that will be difficult to entangle. I'd like to do this while their $9.99 sale is on, I'm not sure a second copy is worth the permanent $30 price. Anyone have any successful experience at this so they can advise me how to proceed?

Thanks!

I never deactivated, or did anything else with the app, prior to flashing a new ROM. A Titanium Backup always worked fine for me (with Copilot v8).

You could always purchase it now, and not run it until you get an answer on this from their support - thus locking in the $9.99 price.

People, Hi :)

Wonder if anyone can answer the following, as I am unable to find the answers anywhere :-( (I currently use CPv8)

Okay, v9 (Premium). Is there an option for the display to show ones current road speed (NOT road speed LIMIT, but the speed one is moving at), as there is on v8 (This is one of the options on v8 where two different items may be shown (ETA and road speed/Distance and Road speed/Distance and ETA/Time of arrival and miles to do, etc)

Another question.. Can one set up default values of preferred roads?? M/way with xxspeed, and preferred or not preferred//Dual carriageway with xxspeed, and preferred or not preferred/Main roads with xxspeed and preferred or not preferred. Again, this was available on v8, but I can find no reference to this with v9.

NB/ I HAVEN'T yet bought v9, until I can get the above answered.

Thanks guys

Yes. The "Info Bar" lets you display two values at the bottom of the screen.

You can display any combination of the Distance, ETA, Time Remaining, Speed, Altitude and Heading for these values.

To set custom speeds, from the main screen, click the button with 6 purple squares, then the "Main menu" button, click "Route" at the bottom of the screen and "Vehicle Preferences". You can set prefernces for a car, camper van, motorbike, bicycle and for walking. You can customise the road speed for the first three of these. There are settings for Motorways, Dual Carriageways, Primary Roads, Secondary Roads and Local Streets. There are 5 levels for whether you want to avoid or favour them, and a speed.

bspahh,

Hey, Thanks for your full and concise reply. I think that has just about answered my queries I had about v9, before purchase.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Has anyone found a way to show the info bar when in map view, without a destination? I often drive around locally and pretty much know my way around so I don't need to enter a destination, but still want to be able to see where I am. I would like to see the info bar displays so I can see my speed, altitude or heading. Not only would I like to see the info bar, but also to be able to set it to show different information than when driving with a destination. (No point in trying to show an ETA when there is no destination.)

Just tested out the 'Walking' mode - not impressed. On my HTC Desire, the map wobbled around so violently when walking that I had to stop and stand perfectly still to read it. Buggy too - when the vocal turn instructions were triggered, they repeated non-stop (even past the turn) until I muted the sound.

I don't expect the maps to have every alley and footpath, but when I took a path not on the map (but signposted to my destination), it totally lost its position, jumping around randomly and jerkily until I got close to a known road, then jumped over to that, ignoring my true position.

Plenty of work to do there...
