Anyone had this problem with their play? Ive noticed it recently with a few people ive called that mid conversation it all of a sudden just goes quiet and i have to put the phone down and recall for me to hear them?
Doesnt happen with every call though and im using the same sim ive had for over a year in a htc desire with no problems?

I used the software updater and it says that there are no new updates available. It happened again today and i tried switching to speaker to see if it was just an issue with the internal ear piece but didnt make any difference. The people im speaking to think im just putting the phone down on them so obviously my mic cuts out to??

Got this phone last week, made my first call today.... Horrible.
I was standing in my back yard so there is no reason why I wouldn't have reception, but crikey.

Try moving to the front yard. You might also check your actual signal level in the settings menu under phone status. Mine is around -80 dBm and I have no issues with reception.

You don't have a bluetooth device that may be competing for the phone call? When the call drops, does the phone go back to the home screen or does it still look as though you are "in call"?

No i dont have any bluetooth devices in the house? When the call drops its still as if im in thr call, the line stays connected and the timer continues it just goes completly silent. Its almost like the other person has muted their microphone

got my xperia play thru verizon from the black friday weekend give away, had the same problems you are, after a few calls to tech support they sent me out a new one (not refurbished) i have never had this issue with another phone and it's very annoying, the one i just got is doing the same thing,. only done it once so far...the tech guy seemed very interested in the issue and stated that they were going to investigate it once they got the device. i'm in a excellent coverage area and no blue tooth devices to cause problems either. another issue i noticed is that facebook WILL NOT sync contacts, tried with different versions of the app and it was the same on both phones...so, can't wait for ICS to get rolled out, hopefully it addresses these problems cause besides those two issues, I LOVE MY PLAY!
