In my house.
We already know about the awesome stuff that comes with this update, like Sense UI, faster, slicker, stronger, etc. (For the record, I have NOT installed the update yet).

In this thread, please post any problems you've had with the phone _after_ updating. NOT problems you had doing the update, but phone behaviour after the update was done. ie. Force Closes, reboots, strange behaviour.

For example, some of the following has already been reported elsewhere:

- Fido customers report their phones now constantly say they are roaming (data I believe)
- Some people report various FCs and spontaneous reboots
- One person says he was unable to delete icons from the home screen (including Rogers icons)... has anyone else encountered this?

Please try to be as detailed as possible so we can determine if there are any bugs specific to this update, as opposed to bugs with apps you have installed.

Two issues for me.

1. Many of the pictures on my SD can no longer be opened. I tried replacing the jpg fom the originals on my PC but they still won't load. The ones that I took with the camera on the phone are working ok. I have tweetwd @rogersmary asking if there is some aort of size limit to the jpg files to work wither the gallery. Astro has no problems opening the same files.

** update **
I guess the pictures have to be directly in the "DCIM/100MEDIA" folder. I can open them now with the default viewer.

2. I used the end all function of advanced task manager and I ended getting continious force close errors afterwards. I ended up having to reboot the phone. To be fair though, it was the first time I use the feature on the magic. Used it many times on dream without any problems.

** update **
Tried it again just in case it was a fluke problem, seamed to be OK for awhile then when I pluged phone into USB I started getting continuous "Force Close" errors. Had to reboot again.

** UPDATE 2 **
Put an exclude on "HTC checkin service" and all is good now. I'm not sure why this should be running as an app.

For anyone who's found that there are apps no longer available in the marketplace after the upgrade here is what I received from a developer:

You can pass along that applications in the market that are compatible with your phone and have the "Copy Protection" flag set by the developer in the market are not able to be seen on the market or downloaded by your phone. Our hypothesis is that the patch caused the phones to be seen as compromised/restricted and they should contact Google Marketplace to get it updated to legitimize the patch or otherwise resolve the issue with them.

In my instance they were prepared to remove the copy protection flag and I could re-install the app. You'll either have to contact the developer for them to do likewise or wait for Rogers to address the problem.

So far we have:

- Fido customers report their phones now constantly say they are roaming (data I believe)
- Some people report various FCs and spontaneous reboots
- One person says he was unable to delete icons from the home screen (including Rogers icons)... has anyone else encountered this?
- Photo gallery error (GBD)
- Task manager "end all" causes FCs (GBD)
- Possible problem with MS Exchange (via Twitter)
- Twitter user XBrav is having problems with freezing, buzzing, and calls not completing.
- Flash player not always working

To those of you saying update is great for you, please note we do not dispute the benefits of this update. Sense UI is slick, there are some great advantages to the update, and it fixes 911 bug. Please don't clutter thread with posts about how wonderful it is, we already acknowledge it's benefits.

However, there is actual value to collecting reports of bugs and issues so we can let Rogers know.

XBrav from Twitter here,

Thanks for passing it on mjschmidt

Here's the complete details of my endeavor (BTW, Just had Rogers fulfill a Dream>Magic transfer due to this headache)

I called Rogers yesterday because I run Windows 7 on all my machines, with XP as a virtual machine. I got a few e-mails of stuff from Rogers:

Good Day
Attached is the SD Card Upgrade instructions for HTC Magic.
The 2 upgrade files can be found at these links:

<<2579_SD Card Upgrade instructions for Rogers HTC Magic.pdf>>
Thank you for choosing Rogers!

Since that was for the Magic and not the Dream, I got the reply needed:

I do apologize, these are for the magic.

Attached is the intructions for the Dream and the link for the Dream.

Thank you for Choosing Rogers!

I can attach the PDFs if any forum members wish to have them.

We finally found an XP install in my house, and got the HTC Sync to work (For some stupid reason, I completely MISSED the PDF in the 2nd e-mail). Update ran fine.

My little brother, who is the actual owner of the phone, was unable to make outgoing calls. If an incoming call was received, the phone would freeze on the incoming call screen, and the vibrate function would continuously vibrate.

I spent quite a bit of time looking into the flash. Its flash lite 3.1 which has almost the same capabilities as flash 8. This means that it's only going to work on older/less sophisticated flash script. i.e. It will only work randomly. People with HTC Hero's claim that they have about a 50% success rate getting flash sites to work. My own trials have yielded a much lower percentage.

See my post number 5, I found a work around for both issues.

gbd

I haven't run the update yet, and I can use the gallery to see images that are not in the 100MEDIA folder (but are in DCIM), so if I have to now keep everything in the 100MEDIA folder, I would consider that a flaw since it allows for less customization than I have now.

Not saying it isn't a flaw Mike. Just letting people know what the can do to make the pictures viewable. BTW, can't even be in a subfolder.

No real issues at the moment, sense UI is much much better than that POS stock android we had before. I love this update. Like another user posted, there are so many widgets and options that you really don't need to download a lot of junk from the market anymore.

One question, anyone get the HTC mail widget to work for gmail? It worked (in that it accepted all of the POP and SMTP info for google) and I can send mails, but it doesn't show me any new e-mails. The regular gmail app always notifies me though and works fine, but just thought i'd play around with this one too.

called Rogers today to get the 911-Update because i'm a Win 7-64 bit user. this is the text of the email they sent me to update the phone:

Upgrade Instructions for Rogers HTC Dream

Requirements:

Rogers Dream
Battery Level of 50% or more. Do not start upgrade if battery level less than 50%
MicroSD card formatted in FAT32, please note cards formatted in FAT will not work.
Installing the Update via MicroSD Card:

1) Download the HTC_Dream_Update.zip and extract the file within, DREAIMG.nbh to the root of the microSD card.
2) Backup your personal data: All personal data (contacts, applications, photos, bookmarks, etc) stored on the device will be lost after the update process. There are 3rd party applications on Android Market that can back up your applications and personal data.
3) Power off the device.
4) Remove the microSD card from your device (if you have one already installed), press in on the microSD card to eject it and then remove it from the slot.
5)Insert the microSD card with the DREAIMG.nbh on it in the microSD slot, slide it into the slot until you feel a “click”.
6) Press and hold both Power and Camera buttons at the same time until the blue/white screen appears.

The update will automatically begin installing, follow the on-screen instructions, press the trackball when prompted to press “Action”

Once the update is complete, “Press Action to Complete” will be displayed. Press the trackball to reboot the device and complete the upgrade process remove the microSD card

so, i followed everything to the letter. update went smoothly (phew!)

phone reboots - Rogers logo - HTC logo....aaaaaaand....

same old Android desktop. no Sense UI.

am i supposed to activate it somewhere?

Can everyone please post if you updated the Dream (w/ keyboard) or the Magic (no keyboard)? Helps with seeing which complaints are applicable to which handset.

In my case (HTC Dream), I've installed 3 programs so far from the Market (Hungry Shoplist, Speedtest, and Abduction) and they don't show up in the application list area. So if I want to launch them, I need to go to the "My downloads" area of the Market app.

UPDATE: For kicks, I restarted my phone and now the icons for the installed apps show up. That is NOT normal behavior! I downloaded another app from the Market and it immediately showed up in the app list so I don't know what I was experiencing there.

Fido customers report their phones now constantly say they are roaming (data I believe)-

-Confirmed this is wide spread issue on the magic from amount of users reporting it.Not sure why it is happening but on our Fido Sim the data is blocked via Fido,we only use WIFI on it and still shows as roaming.

Was not a issue on Dream or Magic before Update.

Have not had any issues as posters above have mentioned at all and have played with it allot will report back if i see any.

I've been on the phone for the past two days with both Fido and Rogers wireless tech support. After doing the 911 update and being surprised with the Sense UI and other updates, I was shocked to find that my phone thought I was roaming (I have Fido sim card). Currently my only saving graces are that the HTC Magic is apparently unlocked (I don't remember buying it like that nor have I tried to unlocked it) at least for Fido and Rogers sim cards (newer ones anyways). I can still make and receive calls as usual. But my 3G access was non-existant. Until I got clarification from Fido that I can roam Rogers network anywhere in Canada at no extra cost because of my current 6GB data (so I turned on data roaming, and configured wifi to remain on even when the screen was off). So while my phone thinks I am roaming right now its mostly just an icon and extra network setting for me. Not ideal, but so long as I can USE the phone as I have been for the last 6 months prior to the 911 mandatory udpate right now I am ok. I am still waiting on response from Rogers Tier 2 technical support for a proper fix (the first update from Rogers DIDNT have this issue - I squarely place fault and blame the new updated ROM Rogers/HTC provided). Additionally they need to clarify for themselves whether they know that the HTC Magic and probably Dream as well as unlocked to both Fido and Rogers customers because they were seriously confused when I first called them, treated me like I was a hacker rooting and modding my phone.

Long paragraph, enjoy.
