Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

the OTA update was fine...a ~100MB file downloaded via wifi took a few minutes, i tapped OK a couple times, and it was basically done. one of my shortcuts was gone (manage applications or running applications, i can't remember), but everything else seemed fine.

i went to work yesterday and the phone lost its data (3G) signal. i'd toggle it on/off but i'd get "error code 67 - could not connect to data network." when i got home, i got on sprint chat, and the CSR made me update a bunch of things (hands free activation, PRL, etc. via ##3282#). she claimed that it was necessary after going from froyo to gingerbread. i asked her if the problem would come up again and she said no, but who really knows, right?

the effects seem to be a bit smoother, and the phone is more responsive, but obviously nowhere near a cyano ROM's speed. it seems like 8 out of 10 people say that gingerbread is worth it, so we'll see.

i don't really have much data in terms of battery life, but i will post an update next week. i couldn't find the netflix app before (did it get pulled from marketplace?) but at least 2 other apps broke when going to 2.3 (shoot 'em - the screenshot app being a big one that i miss). using the phone for about 90 minutes last night for mostly web surfing seemed to use up about the same amount of battery as it has the previous week.

i finally had the camera problem. i was taking pictures all last week and it was fine. today i tried to take a picture and the whole phone locked up, then restarted. the picture i tried to take wasn't in the gallery. :( such a bummer. i cleared the data for the camera app and tried again... it seems fine so far but we'll see...

I have had it take between 2 and 30 consecutive photo's to act up, but it always does. Seems to be worse in low light. Oh and the delayed flash thing is just icing on the sad-cake.

I'm finally fed up with Gingerbread, my phone was fine for a week or so and now I can't exit any apps without waiting at least a minute for boot screen to go away. Factory restore didn help either. I consistently have the soft keys loading sideways instead of one to bottom and major lag when typing on my phone so bad that that simple text can take a few minutes to get sorted out.

This half baked updates was bs and I'm ready to drown my phone.

It appears that feature is gone from the HTC Gingerbread release.

There are a couple of third party options that will give you this info.

For example: AContact Advanced Call log (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.yang.android.ansta&feature=search_result)

or

CallTrack (which I've used): https://market.android.com/details?id=app.calltrack&feature=search_result

Hope this helps.

Do you know if installing one of those apps will display the time of calls made prior to installing the software? I guess I'm just hoping that some the info is stored by the phone and can be detected by new software instead of the information being solely stored in the old software that was tracking the timing before this update.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it does. I think that info is in the log, just no longer displayed by Sense. Just try one, probably AContact... and see.

I lost 3g yesterday and it has been very intermittent if not at all since. Had to call in. The tech had me do the same thing.

It didn't help at all.

My Evo was bought in November, no insurance thru Sprint or Best Buy.

The are sending me a new phone on Wednesday to replace it and waiving the $35 charge. They said the reason they were waiving it was because it was happening to a lot of people after the update.

Since the new update, the little green circle that shows the number of new emails on my email icon will not change. Meaning, when I turn my phone on in the AM it will show that number of new emails all day long even though i have read them all. Anyone know how to fix this?

Which email app? Stock email or gmail? Have you tried logging in and out or clearing the cache for that app?

Well i held off on updating to 2.3... i wanted to wait and see what others were experiencing, and to be honest it doesnt really sound that good. So i will probably keep 2.2 for a bit. Doesnt anyone think that Sprint will address these issues and come out with a update with less side effects?
They had a supposed maintenance update that was supposed to fix the wireless issue and something else but it still doesnt address my main PITA which is near constant HTC green logo screens and at times they seem to take a lot longer than they should.

I think Sprint and HTC need to go back and really fix this update once and for all. I've been reading the posts and have waited to chime in trying to give the last update the benefit of the doubt but here is the list of things I still find annoying to say the least:

1. Camera - although it doesn't reboot the phone any longer. I have had the app crash to the desktop and is only relauchable after a phone restart. Clearing the cache didn't do anything.

2. HTC sense - crashes still. While not as often still happens and seems to be random.

3. Wifi - more randomly now has to be turned off and back on to connect to access points it used to connect to without a problem.

Both updates were done with a factory restore in hopes of these issues going away but no such luck. I have also downloaded the latest versions of the apps I run in case they were not GB compatible. I didn't have these issues prior to the GB update so it's obvious that's the culprit. Plus the fact that this is a stripped version of GB with these bugs gives HTC and Sprint a FAIL on this software update. Either fix this crap or let us revert back damn it!!!

Amen brother, Im right with you on being displeased about this update. As soon as the find an exploit Im jumping ship to the dark side and rooting and then when I finally can switching to a different brand.

I would highly advise against getting this update for those who have yet to do so.

Still have the camera issue and Sense crashing has gotten worse for me. It almost makes the phone unusable. The issue I have now is that when I factory reset it goes to GB so there is no way for me to even get back to 2.1 to get rid of GB. That is ridiculous.

I downloaded GB yesterday over 4G. Took about 10 Minutes and I was rebooted and running again.

Looks like the liitle green "Mail" counter says 1 when there is nothing in the mail box ? Cleared all the mail off the Exchange Server. Still says
1 incoming e-mail. ???? Oh well.

I like the changes to the Text dialog box so you can see where your cursor is. Thats nice.

Will play with the Camera more during the weekend and see if any changes.

Too bad I still cant remove that stupid Block Buster App.
