Help Any way to tether with 4G?

Just got my Nexus S 4G, running it 100% stock and not sure if I will ever root/ROM it yet. I can tether fine using built-in Wifi hotspot. As we know, the tether kills 4G and forces 3G when active.

I only actually have 3G at my house, so I can't test any other methods, but I am wondering if any other tethering tools will allow 4G tether? For example, Barnacle wifi or PDAnet USB... tools I've used in the past on rooted phones. And if either of these methods does work for 4G tethering... is root required? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has 4G available nearby and has tested these methods on rooted/unrooted phones.

Thanks!

I had the same problems you described with my unrooted Nexus S. After rooting and installing wireless tether, I can tether with 4g. So basically unroot=no 4g tether and root=4g tether.

Thanks for the response JW. With phones in the past that I've unrooted, I've always installed a custom ROM also, which I might not want to do here. I am pretty interested in a stock Google experience, and not hurting my ability to accept OTA updates, etc. Is that possible here? Which root method did you use? I know there are many and it's easy to find info, just curious since you had a good answer to my tether question. :) Thanks! I would love to hear that somebody is rooted but still 100% stock otherwise and getting OTA updates regularly, no problem.

Also are you just using the standard hotspot? Someone in a different thread said he has to use "Wifi tether for root users" app.

I used Shabby's sorta-one-click-root method. It's on this forum. It was much easier than when I rooted my HTC hero. I have also used a lot of custom roms in the past, but I have stuck with the stock 2.3.4 GB on my Nexus S. I am think about checking out CM7 Rom, but I am already pretty satisfied with my phones performance. Also, I have had no problems with updates, but I am hearing that the July 11th update will undo root. However, I think running Shabby's root method again will get you back even after the update. Hope that helps.

Awesome, thanks again man. Not sure if you saw the last minute edit I made, probably as you were replying, here it is again:

Does anyone have "Shabby's" link? Also (warning noob question) is there a stock from from Google, if so where do you find/get it?
