Lotus Notes

Hey, that would be just fine for my needs. But do tell, can you then see the entries that come from your Notes calendar in your GMail calendar? If so, what is your employer's stance on this (my coworkers frequently include pin numbers in teleconference invites and such)?

I use HTC sync as well for syncronizing my notes calendar entries to my hero. The notes entries is not syncronized to my gmail account, so this should not be a security issue for you :)

So there's some software to install on your pc as well. This comes from an installation cd that came with the phone, I suppose? Is any registration (with HTC) required, or may any Android/Notes user make use of this software?

You will find the HTC sync software on the SD card that comes with your phone or you can download from HTC web page. I am not sure that this software can be used with any android phone or if it only works with HTC phones

I think it was stated earlier that the HTC sync software on the phone wasn't able to be extracted off the phone (the phone comes with the software already on it). I thought this was mentioned somewhere else in this thread.

BTW... I'm new, just joined up. HELLO! Android is AWESOME on my Sprint Hero.

I have tried the touchdown option and am failing miserably. Those of you who have it working via the tutorial link in the one post... are you using traveler 8.5.1? I'm on 8.5.

Active Sync did not work on Traveler 8.5. You will need to upgrade to 8.5.1 to use most of the new phones, such as Android, Palm Pre, or iPhone.

OK - after all of this, I am a little confused. (I am a novice...)

On my pc, I use a web page to access L-Notes remotely, which first validates who I am via entering my id and an rsa key. A virtual connection is made (and a pop up is initiated for this connection), and from there, I log in to web based L-Notes.

Could something like this be supported in an Android environment?

Or.... Better yet, could I access both email and calendar functions vis the software mentioned elsewhere in the thread - but what would have to be done about the connection to my company's network?

Given that I'd have to ask a few questions of our Notes support personnel, what questions should I be asking? I'd love to connect into Notes, as my Droid has provisions for Microsoft Exchange email.....

Hey all,

I was notified last week Friday that they finally released the version that supports the Droid, and I just installed the trial version this morning.

The initial setup was a little confusing I followed the instructions for the Droid Eris, which is posted on their software download page (but I had to make a few tweaks)...

Go to "Settings", "Accounts and Sync", press the "Add Account" button, choose "Corporate", entered my Lotus Notes external (internet style) email address and password, and then things get tricky...

The next screen shows fields for several settings, which I set up as follows:

Domain\Username - You have to enter the "alias" as described in the Droid Eris document, followed by backslash and the username of my Lotus Notes account (which is also described in the Eris setup document). So mine looked like "alias@email.com\Jeff" (without quotes). The alias can be a different email address than your notes email - it depends on how you set up the software and your account with commontime.

Password - your notes password

Exchange Server - eas.commontime.com

I unchecked the use secure connection item (not sure if it works if you leave this checked). I did this because it looked like they had it unchecked in the Eris document. I might try doing this with secure connections and see if it works.

I think the next screen checks the server connection. Mine was successful and it said mail was on the way. You also can set up whether you want push email or pull (with a time interval to check for mail).

There was only an option for syncing contacts here, which I checked. I was concerned here, since I wanted calendar sync too, but I will get back to this in a minute.

Once I did the above, my mail started coming, in the "Email" app (not Gmail).

I also was confused about the contact sync and whether it worked. It appears that they are maintained separately from your google contacts, and you have options in the contacts app to show or not show contacts from each source account that is set up on the phone. Mine is set to show both, but it appears to merge the contacts from what I can see. In other words, you can pick a contact and if it is both a google contact and a local address book contact from Notes, you will see the google contact info first, and the corporate contact info below. I still need to try and see what happens if you don't show the google account contacts.

Finally, the calendar. After setting up the exchange account, I started the corporate calendar app, and as I watched, my calendar started populating (I was in month view). As far as I can tell, it synced all my meetings/appointments/all day events (including repeating meetings). Time will tell whether it deals with some of the Lotus notes custom recurring meeting options. (The first test will be when someone cancels a single occurrence of a repeating meeting). I suspect that it will work, since I think Google calendar's inability to handle some of these odd recurring meetings was the issue. The corporate calendar doesn't appear to show up in google calendar.

After I went back to this new exchange account in "Accounts and Sync", there was a check box to turn on and off the calendar sync. I guess this doesn't happen until you actually run the Corporate Calendar app.

So far I am pleased with the way it works. But I intend to take the full 30 days to evaluate the software and see if I am willing to pay for this new functionality on my phone. I am also interested to see if I can accept meeting invites from my phone. I haven't been able to do that in the past, but the Exchange functionality might make this possible.

I will post updates as I find new info or issues.

I tried using the secure connection option, and it appeared to work, but I later got a "partnership error" notification that when I clicked it, told me I needed to resync my calendar. This ended up giving me duplicate entries in my calendar on the device (but fortunately my actual calendar in Notes was unaffected).

I wasn't sure how to fix this, so I deleted the account, and recreated it, making sure not so choose the secure option.

However, I still got the partnership error notification about an hour later. This time I said cancel instead of letting it resync the calendar. So I don't think this was a side effect of the secure connection option.

Now I don't seem to get any more calendar updates.

I will see if I can find info on the commontime web site about this notification (or open a trouble ticket).

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks - I have been in frequent contact with support regarding the release, and they told me about the Droid problem...disappointing for certain, but I will manage. Will 5.11 work for calendar and contacts by chance? That is all I really want. If the issue is with email, I can probably manage...

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

As you know, 5.12 is now released. With support for Droid (and Nexus One). I hope that any of your calendar issues get ironed out with help from the support team. The feedback you give is always really appreciated and any major issues I spot here I will pass onto R&D for a patch.

Hope it works out for you and please do let us know if not!

Thanks,
Holly

It looks like the "Partnership Error" is a common problem (not necessarily with mNotes)...

Duplicate or even triplicate entries showing up in corporate calender - Google Mobile Help

I followed the directions, and it worked for me to solve the duplicates issue. Still not sure what caused it. It hasn't happened in about 18 hours...

Still trying to get a handle on how well it handles canceled instances of repeating meetings. Will be trying some things later to see if I can figure it out.

Thanks,
Jeff

I am not finding a Corporate Calendar App in Accounts and Sync under my Lotus Notes. In my other gmail there is a calendar selection, but not under Notes. Any thoughts? I believe there was another post related to this, but I couldn't find an answer.

First of all, I am assuming that you are using a Motorola Droid...

Corporate Calendar is an Application on the phone itself that you would find where all of your other applications are (in the lower "tab" that you swipe up to see). It isn't located under the Accounts and Sync section.

There are actually two Calendar apps: one is just called "Calendar" (which is the app that shows your calendar as synced from you Google account), and the other is "Corporate Calendar" (which is your Exchange account calendar).

O.M.G. You have GOT to be kidding me. This is what erks me about Notes. Their pathetic instructions (there was no Droid user guide on the website until a few days ago. It was emailed to me directly). Oh, and there's lots others :) But I'm stuck with it. THANK YOU!

Now getting Partnership Error. Have been emailing back and forth with mNotes people. Can't seem to get this fixed. Calendar now not syncing at all.

Check out this post:

I get the same issue sometimes (around the calendar):

http://androidforums.com/application-requests/1307-lotus-notes-2.html#post276512

There is a link in that post with instructions that will resolve the issue (at least temporarily). I think this is a problem on Android (not specific to mNotes). Hopefully there will be a firmware update that addresses this in the future.

Thanks
Jeff

That can be helpful, but some companies (like mine) don't have any interest in supporting users personal phones (let alone Android phones). I don't have any influence over this policy, so a solution like mNotes wireless can be useful. It is unfortunate that you have to have your computer on all the time, but this is a necessary evil when you can't have a server based solution (and thus don't need any IT support to make it work).

F Y I ...I've been using Companiuonlink Express USB sync (My company doesn't allow syncing internal calendar with Google) and it is working fine for me. It has hiccups when individual recurring meetings are rescheduled but I have been syncing one way Notes---> Droid and it does a pretty good job. Updates are coming at a good pace with additional features (It uses a custom calendar app (CL USB in the market) on the droid and is a secure way to sync Notes with the droid.

...Just thought I'd jump in with another solution to the Notes sync dilemma
