Should prostitution be legalized?

It is legal...you just have to buy the girl something rather than handing her the money. They call it dating. There is also the bar method of buying drinks.

Haha. I don't know what kind of girls you talk to, but I for one don't sleep with guys I date, I just like getting a free dinner. And I certainly don't sleep with any mook that buys me a drink in a bar.

Not any mook in a bar but I'm a bit confused if you aren't sleeping with the ones that buy you a drink, and you aren't sleeping with the guys you date.....do you randomly point to some guy on the street and say 'Him, I'm going to sleep with him'?

I've come to the realization that if we legalize prostitution, we must also legalize cocaine. I mean really. One can't have a good hooker without some good blow. Am I right?

You are right. I never thought I would be able to see the day when legal cocaine would make sense but hookers and cocaine go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly

I am picky. And women don't "need" sex the way men do. I am holding out for Johnny Depp. Haha, jk, but seriously, good things come to those who wait.

In 49 out of 50 states and the District of Columbia, prostitution is illegal. In Nevada; however, heavily regulated legal prostitution exists. Street prostitution and pimping is illegal, and it is illegal in Clark County (which includes Las Vegas). It is legal to operate a brothel in in any county with a population under a certain level.

I think that allowing legal brothels that are properly regulated could reduce the spread of STDs that illegal street hookers might spread around. Nevada requires the use of condoms for all in the industry. If two adult people willingly consent to have sex in exchange for money, why should the government stop them? I agree that public solicitation and pimping should be illegal, or at least heavily regulated ("pimps" would be the people who operate the brothels). This is because the government has a legitimate interest in reducing the spread of STDs, and regulating industries that around based around sex helps to contain STDs.

Prostitutes can get around the law anyway by disguising their services as "escort services". I've seen escort ads in the back of every porn magazine I've browsed through. This is pretty much prostitution under a different name, which makes it legal.

Opinions? Discuss.

It must be ski season by the lake of fire, because for once I find myself agreeing with FreakyLocz14 on something. I have had the opportunity to live in a number of different countries, and in most of those prostitution, while not an option most parents choose for their children, is legal, regulated, managed and taxed. Those engaging in prostitution for a living enjoy legal rights and benefits just like any employee of any job, while those procurring their services are able to use a a service that at least in theory tries to control the spread of the ills that normally accompany unregulated prostitution.

Look at it this way, just because it is illegal, it doesn't mean it is not pervasive. One look at popular "want-add" websites such as Craigslist and backpage will show you that just like cars for sale and apartments for rent, prostitution is widely available pretty much everywhere.

But many people inflict others with the product of their poor choices. So it is up to the government to control some activities because it serves the public welfare.

Banning cocaine is not the answer to that. We already have laws that forbid people from smoking in public, unless a private business owner allows it on their property, and from drinking and being drunk in public. Those laws would obviously apply to marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs upon their legalization.
