Help No 4G since the update

I guess a refurbished phone would match the quality of my phone right now... i'd rather have a refurbished phone than no 4G at least.

I can't believe there is no way for us to fix this at all, and the only solution is to get another phone. Unless it's a hardware failure (4G modem fried?), there should be a software fix for this available...

I applied the update last night just before going to bed. Upon waking this morning, I found that I'm stuck in 3G with occasional loss of all data connection.

Could be a coincidence but since I've had no connectivity problems in quite a while, I'm thinking it's related to the update.

Anybody else having issues?

This happened to a guy over at xda , he had to get a new sim card, that fixed it.

I'm cautious of a refurbished phone, afraid of inheriting new problems. I'll try for a sim card and see if that fixes it.

I totally understand that and have experienced the nightmare of CLN myself. I wanted to do everything I could before going with a replacement but was pleasantly surprised when mine arrived in perfect condition.

I just hope that Verizon takes the time to investigate my returned phone to determine the cause. I let them know I was returning it in hope that they would and not just close out the support ticket.

Can you wait until I get my new phone, that way I don't get yours :)

When the reboot problems started after the first update, I called tech support and was sent a replacement. I had heard about the light leakage issues and even had a slight amount of it on my phone. I couldn't understand how people were so anal as to worry about a sliver of light that you could only see at a certain angle. My CFL phone arrived and it had two high beams of light seeping out of the bottom. I couldn't blame anybody for not wanting to deal with that. I was worried that this replacement was going to show up with the same problem.

Same results as others. 4g on boot, switches to 3g shortly after and rarely if ever does it go back to 4g. I am 20 minutes outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I am hoping this is a network issue with verizon and not a radio issue, if it doesn't resolve i might try to go get a new sim card from verizon. Not that it will help at all but it would be worth a try.

Update: I've been getting 4G reception on and off now. I kept my phone off (completely shut down) overnight. This morning I have been flipping in and out of 4G and 3G... and now 4G seems to stay on a little more consistently. Was this a network/verizon problem maybe? I'd rather wait and test it through the week before getting a refurbished phone... but all in all, finally some good news.

I believe it was a network issue. I noticed some connection issues when I was in Metro Detroit a day before the update came out. Sometimes it was even going to 1X, which was not the case on prior visits.

I'm 100% sure it wasn't the network, at least in my case. I was stuck on 3g for 4 days straight and back to 4G within two minutes of taking my SIM out of my phone and putting it into my replacement device.

By any chance did you happen to turn your device off/on during the stuck-on-3G timeframe?

I did everything possible.

Battery pulls
Power cycling
Changing battery covers
Leaving off overnight
Factory reset
New SIM card

In addition, tech support did some things on their end that required I shut the phone down while they did whatever it was they did.

The update definitely fried my phone.

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked. I'm thinking it's just a coincidence at this point since nobody else seems to be having the problem.

I'm in Plymouth, Michigan if anybody else in the area is having the same problems.

I just opened a new thread regarding this issue..sorry about that, it was prior to reading your thread.. my phone isn't working very well either !! Data connection sucks!! Won't hold any kind of signal for any length of time, just keeps switching from 1x to 3g and 4G and even when I show full.bars, the traffic arrows won't move and I get (check your internet connections)

Thanks for the post, I'm pretty sure it's a local problem not related to the update now.

No its not!! Im in Chicago and I'm sure its related to the update now after reading your issues, I've also tried everything including a hard reset. Tech support confirmed that thunderbolt owners have been calling in and a replacement is on the way!!! This really sucks!! I was hoping that my case was isolated but now I fear I've started the Thunderbolt tango! I am not looking forward to this. I will say this, I'm very good at going the F*** off!! I paid FULL price for this phone and refuse to go through exchanging devices over and over again!! I will complain until I get a Charge if this continues, but damn I really liked this phone!! I wasn't one of the many users who cared about the latest update (not speaking of anyone who was having serious issues) and why we weren't getting the OS update they promised. I totally agree with the few that felt waiting was perfectly ok, especially if it guaranteed a solid update. This is the second time now that they've released an update that screwed up phones! Not sure who is at fault...htc? Verizon? But this isn't cool at all !!

LOL read the whole thread next time. I went from thinking it was the update to thinking it was the network to knowing it was the update.

Normally I do read the entire thread prior to saying anything however, Ive been talking about how this update ruined my phone in the original thread about the update being "solid" and no one paid me any attention, I got a little excited when I finally saw someone who could empathize with me.. lol

I just wonder how many people are having this issue? I've only seen a handful of complaints on the 3 forums I browse.
