Help Heating problem with S2

Cheers for the +1 but unless your using stock KG1 your not utilizing most of the changes which were made at Kernal level as I believe CM is based on 2.3.3. kernal according to the threads on XDA (Unless it has been recently update)
Using stock mate... CM7 is still on the cusp of being released for the SGSII... even as I write.

My experience:-

1) Off wifi when not using

2) Playing Wifi games will cause the phone hotter than normal games eg
Zynga Poker vs Angry Birds, agreed that the place near the Camera will be hotter than normal

3) I just switch from the Rubbery Casing to the Casing with Holes for better ventilation

4) Update whatever software. Currently using K7 (less hotter compare to K1 - but then again, maybe it is my imagination or self satisfaction)

5) Waiting for patch 2.3.4 - I prefer direct from Samsung instead from outsiders as I don't want to void my warranty.

Hi,

This is a firmware issue and is solvable for now if rooting your phone is an option or wait untill the next firmware 2.3.4 which claims to fix these issues and improve battery life.

I had the same problem but there is a few things you can do.

Root your Galaxy S2 then download titanium backup.

Use titanium backup via aptoide to freeze the following ( you need the full version one of titanium backup)

Wifi Sharing
Samsung Hub
and social hub

These can be unfrozen anytime with titanium backup.

This has fixed it for me.

Running high end graphic games will still heat up your phone but this is normal.

Hi members

I have got galaxy S2 which I have bought 2 months ago. My phone also has the same heating problem which i have noticed today and once a month before in which my phone feels Hot near the Ear piece and also on the back side near the camera flash even after using the phone for couple of minutes. Also the same day I have noticed that my battery was having very steep draining slope i.e it just drained from 100% to 30 % without any significant use. Also GPS, Wifi, Blue tooth were kept off.

I approached the samsung service center , they have suggested software update for which they want to keep the fone for couple of days but i really dont want to !

my current firmware is KE4 , Gingerbread.XWKF3

can somebody please guide

Regards

To update firmware either:

(a) go here, download and install Samsung's Kies software, then connect handset to PC with USB cable and check for updates

(b) go here, read the instructions carefully, and install any available GS2 firmware at your own risk.

These and other useful links can be found in the sticky at the top of the forum index.

I just picked up my phone from the table and it was hot. Not like the normal heating when you talk but really hot!

The phone was neither charging nor was I on a call. The WiFi, GPS and 3G were also deactivated.

The battery is at 61% and there is enough free memory and space.

- Only 411MB used on the device memory
- Only 163MB RAM being used

The only oddities were that the phone was constantly trying to Sync & the battery usage showing Twitter as using 79%.

Is this happening to anyone else? Any solutions?

yeah it could be causd by an app.. also, it happens mainly on older firmware.. which firmware are u using? (settings/about/build )i havent noticed heating on any of the newer firmwares.. although if its an third party app bug, it could happen

ur twitter battery usage is also suspicious. 79% for anything other than android OS is very strange.. i'd monitor that if i were u

Guys I am also facing the same problem with my phone & most importantly all the sets i have seen so far in INDIA have this heating problem on wifi. i bought it 15 days back , got for my frn as well next week.Just put on the wifi start browsing or start wifi direct n u will notice instant heating.

Went to samsung service they flashed it to KE2 from KE4 saying its newer, but it does not help either.
Pls reply if it needs a replacement being a hardware bug.

Well I did monitor it and the usage is back to normal. Right now, the highest is Calls which is at 30% and it seems to be normal as I was on the phone all day. The battery is at 37% after 11 hours of use + WiFi+3G which is a first! :D

About the firmware, the build number shows me Gingerbread.XWKF3 and the Android version is 2.3.3. Is that the latest or does it need an update?

i have same problem with my s2

This worked for me, see if it helps you...

Start your WiFi / 3G and let each app update itself. Check your battery usage (Settings > Applications > Battery Usage) for anything that seems out of the ordinary. If there's an app which is taking more battery than it should be, uninstall it and install it again. (In my case it was twitter.)

Check for an app which may be taking more memory (RAM) than usual.

Remove any apps which you may have installed using a .apk file download from a rapidshare, filetube, etc. (I had a few stupid games.)

When it turns hot, switch off your phone and turn it on after 10-15mins and it should be fine.

I'm not sure which one (if at all) worked but I did all this and now my phone works fine. Hope it works for you'll too!

Luck

Hi,

Bought my S2 yesterday, and upon browsing and playing games for minutes it gets hot.
And the battery life just sucks! I then thought of browsing on forums since im not sure if im the only one who experienced such, and was shocked that others also did.

I wonder if i should go back to the samsung store and asked for replacement or just upgrade the firmware first.

I then downloaded kies to see if my firmware is upgraded.

CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION : PDA:KF1 / PHONE:KF1 / CSC: KE5 (XTC)
LATEST FIRMWARE VERSION: PDA:KH2 / PHONE:KH1 / CSC: KH1 (XTC)

Should i upgrade my firmware? Or just go back to the samsung store? Please advice. I badly need help.

upgrade - not guarenteed but makes a difference to a lot of people. plus you can still take it back if you've upgraded officially through kies

also look on the sticky tips thread above - there's a whole section on there on optimising your battery. with tweaks and playing around, you should be able to get much better performance. it just takes a bit of time/patience/trial and error to get the balance right.

yup, an upgrade should help both issues. however, KG5 or KH3, which u can download and flash manually, would make a much bigger difference, both running 2.3.4 gingerbread

if u want to stick to kies, its ok.. go ahead, and see if the update helps, it might.. but the latest kies update available in ur region is KH2, which is android 2.3.3 i think.. so it might not be as effective as a flash via Odin

hi i have been using sumsung galaxy s2 for about 2 weeks now and wheni play games.. it crashes randomly.. (the app either just close by itself or i have to go to task manager and shut it down manually and the app will be displayed in red showing that it takes up more den 90% of the cpu ) i thot it might just be the game programming problem but this happens to all the games i am playing.. i was wondering if anyone have the same problem.. is it the phone overheated and the hardware becomes unstable? pls advice thanks..
