2.50.405.2 update?

how to determine if your phone is branded or unbranded... Sorry if this out off the topic... but I think even branded or unbranded will get a update once the phone or system of your phone detect that there's new update from network....

There is an app on the market called "CID Getter". Run this and check your CID. The only bit your interest in is the little red text at the top. Mine is HTC__001 meaning its unbranded.

When HTC release an update it gets pushed directly to unbranded phones first. If your branded then your operator be it 02, orange, t-mob etc get the update, play around with it, add things, remove things, before sending it back to HTC to release to thier branded phones... so it takes a little longer.

Alternatively if you check your software version, all unbranded handsets will have a software number with 405 in it (1.32.405.6, 1.72.405.3, 2.36.405.8 & now 2.50.405.2)

Tried it at my work this morning, and still not a thing. Will keep an eye on the thread to see if any of the regular boffins have an answer.

There's also a generic issue across all builds with the GPS taking a while to connect to satellites or having a weak signal. Potential fixes can be found here:

However this doesn't always resolve the problem. It has been suggested that this could be a hardware issue in phones released close to release dates.

not sure if my GPS issue is due to hardware. When I first got my phone I had an instant OTA update notice for GingerBread and I updated. I never tested the GPS under Froyo.
With 2.3.3 occasionally i'll get a GPS lock but never hold a solid lock, especially when i was moving. With the aid of GPS status i was able to get a satellite lock within seconds. Now that I recently updated to the recent OTA update (250.405.2) i can not get a GPS lock.

wish I read more into Rooting my phone while I was still under 2.2.

BTW I live in Cambodia, not sure if it makes a difference but my black berry bold was able to get GPS lock, even while i was in a brick building.

Hi, are there any Orange UK users who got a wi-fi or GPS problem after updating to 2.36.405.8, which the new update (notification came today) has fixed??

The last update I really regretted due to wifi dropping and GPS taking ages to get a fix or not getting one at all.

Improved slightly after factory reset but nothing like as good as before.

Now I don't know whether to update again and risk it getting worse!
I've asked carphone warehouse who sold me it whether they recommend updating because if it's gets worse I'm going to take it back for replacement.

Can anyone hold my hand on this one.

Would try root / custom ROM but don't want to be left with brick and

If you're worried, I'd hang fire until we can ascertain whether or not the GPS issue is just with the Vodafone release or if it's affecting unbranded handsets too.

If you do decide to root, I've never heard of a phone being bricked by anyone who's followed the guides available to the letter. There are always folk on hand to assist you if you have problems.

hi there, this update has certainly fixed my wifi issues. My router is upstairs in one of the bedrooms connected to the server and all other devices connect via wifi. My DHD would drop out at times making it frustrating especially if i am in the kitchen, now i have full signal.

I am a happy man

Cheers

I've never had a problem with WiFi but did the update when it came through last night.

Now ive lost all my events in my calander ! Any idea if I can retrieve them. It's just the stock calander already on the phone.

Also, why is there nothing being done about the sms problem that's been there for a good couple of months now. It still doesnt notify me when I receive a sms, the only way I know is when I open the messaging app. I've been using sms pro but I prefer the stock messaging app, when it works !!

I've got the unbranded update, and before I had no issues so ignored all the issues people have been having. With this update however, I cant pick up GPS.

Annoyingly discovered this while in the middle of a town that I don't know how to get around, trying to get to a cousins house.

I've installed GPS Status, and inside, I get one green circle appear (what ever that means) and nothing else. No lock though.
