Root CM7 Rom + Glitch Kernel = WOW

So MMS got fixed and CM7 on the fascinate (mtdfascinate) is now in the process of becoming part of the mainstream nightlies.

[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 (fascinatemtd) pretty-much-official build 11.1 - [07/18/11] - xda-developers

Plus Glitchs' new LL, ML, HL Kernels are really insane allowing never before seen overclocking and UnderVolting.

[KERNEL][CM7/MIUI][16/07/11] Glitch V11.1 final -1.7GHz OC/UV-Voodoo-Smooth and fast - xda-developers

Combine the two and I'm telling you nothing else even comes close. Superclean, Comm Rom.....all of it slow now compared to this. Make note you don't have to use Glitchs' Kernel, the CM7 rom comes with it's own and sometimes things that were added or fixed in the rom are reverted when you flash the different Kernel. As usual, do your own due diligence and do your homework before flashing anything.

Make sure you do your homework as this completely changes things to the BML/MTD file system. As of right now you can't use the three finger boot for recovery so if you soft brick your device you will have to be able to use a PC to ADB Reboot Recovery or else Odin the entire thing from the ground up using the 2.2 PIT method.

But totally worth it.

:eek:I'm really thinkin' about giving this a shot next!?!?!
Is it really that hot? Sounds pretty groovy from what I've read! I got all the downloads ready to go. I guess I'm gonna go with the med. leakage glitch kernal, ya know, middle of the road?
Any tips or quirks or installation advice I should know about before-hand would be much appreciated?
Thanks man!!!
....... I'm a little excited @ it to be honest!!

yes, very fast indeed, makes the rest really look old and slow

1. no nandroid, its an entirely different "file system" (MTD), RFS is gone with this, no voodoo either, make sure you disable voodoo lag fix before you do anything else

2. no more three finger boot to red recovery, it will come up but it doesn't work, so don't mess around in it, recovery is only available as a reboot option or via ADB, so if for some reason your phone won't boot you can't just boot into recovery and fix it. You will have to reboot recovery with ADB or Odin completely back to stock and re-do everything....

3. don't pull your battery while phone is on after installing this....lots of people including myself found it soft-bricks the phone, forcing you to Odin it to stock and start over which means if it happens while away from a pc with Odin and files then you're just without a phone

4. don't get crazy with the undervolting or overclocking unless you are prepared to Odin it of course, can't use SetCPU, only Voltage Control. Also grab Voodoo Control app. When you install this at first it doesn't have the market or even a way to set up your google account sync. You have to install a GApps file in recovery. Remember, not three finger recovery. The new one will be 4.0.0.5 Blue

5. pretty much that's it,

backup any files on your sd card before you start

disable voodoo lag fix, (i formatted my sd card to start clean although not necessary)

Odin one of the stock .tar packages and make sure you also have the Atlas 2.2 PIT file loaded with repartition checked the first time, boot, pulll battery.

then Odin the EC09 Modem only (not necessary but it seems to perform really well, much faster GPS lock for me)

then Odin the "cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar" file (this file is ONLY for the first time you go from RFS to MTD, after you have CM7/MIUI installed you cannot install this again)

then get into recovery (should be orange or blue this time not red), flash the 07/04 version of the CM7 rom, when you tell it to flash it will "check your BML/MTD and then recovery will come back up, then tell it to install the 07/04 rom again, this time it will actually install it.

** note above, the 07/04 step may not be necessary if you are installing the 07/17 or newer version. when 07/13 first came out it would not install if you were coming from RFS to MTD for the first time but 07/04 did and you could easily go from 07/04 to 07/13, thats why i recommended doing 07/04 first

let it boot up normally, long press power, reboot->recovery, and now flash the 07/17 or 07/18 (whichever you like, 07/18 just fixed docking basically, i dont use it), reboot

reboot into recovery and install the GApps file, after you reboot you will be able to set up your gmail account and apps

after that, Voodoo Control (for voodoo color only, there is no lag fix here), Voltage Control, CPU Spy, (i personally use the Honeybread Theme for Theme Chooser), you may want to uninstall the "2.3.4 Music" app and install 3.0.1 for google cloud sync if you use it, the rest is up to you.....

Well, I got it up and running and ......FAST it is!! However I can't activate my service via *228 or any other way? It's got a ton of bells and whistles, but I need a PHONE!!! Let me know if I'm missing something here, like.. real fast or else I'm gonna have to go back to the stock and redo everything. Probably go back to COM 2.1!
can you send me that Atlas deal, or a link to it?

***READ THIS!!!!!!*** Going from CM7 MTD/GB MIUI MTD to another rom - xda-developers

You need to start all the way back over, read my instructions carefully, you were supposed to load one of the stock tar packages using the PDA button of course and in the same moment also click the PIT button and load the Atlas 2.2 PIT file and also make sure the check box labeled "re-partition" is checked. Once you have all three set Odin the phone. Then start back with the process. I don't know why people have an issue with the *228 thing. Others have reported it too. Search the CM7 thread you will find solutions but the thing is I never have had to do the *228 activation on my phone when flashing any Rom. It always is already activated when it rebooted. There's a way to make it work, don't give up, if necessary you may have to post in the xda cm7 thread and ask again if search doesn't find it. Expect to get flamed for asking something already asked 50 times but you can get it to work.

I got it workin', but my signal seems way weak?
Right now I'm transferring all my stuff back to newly formatted SD.

Where is this Atlas pit file?
Ok, now I got it! Just a few hours too late!
I'll mess with it some more tomorrow, I've had enough!
Thanks man!!
****Oh yeah, how do I get into recovery now?**

the pit file is in that link i gave you along with several different Odin tar files

also the only way into recovery is to be already running and choose reboot_>recovery

read my long post above, everything was covered there bro

I got everything working except wifi, and a few FCs on some apps. I like it a lot though. It is wicked fast too! Ya think if I reload everything using that procedure, I can get rid of the FCs, get a better signal, and get wifi workin'? Are there any bad-ass themes out for this as of yet?
Other than that, you're right, it is a whole new awesome Fascinate!
Thanks for the heads up holmes, lookin' good!!:D

Yeah I would start over clean. Did you use the EC09 modem only Odin to change to that modem or what modem are you running? Look in settings-about phone-baseband. There are some odd data issues. Every now.and then it looses connection but it comes right back, more of an annoyance that I'm sure will get fixed soon.

So, let make sure I have this straight this time?
1 Odin ED05 file & PIT file
2 odin CWM recovery
3 flash CM7 7/17 rom

2 odin CWM recovery(the CWM4 fixed for CM7 odin version, yes)
3 flash CM7 7/17 rom (yep)
4 flash glitch (optional but i would)
5 flash GAPPS (yep)
Do I need to flash that CWM4 recovery or is that already included? (once you flash the rom and/or kernel you are on the latest recovery already)
What baseband should I be using? (i havent used ED05, im on EC09, ED05 might be as good or better, not sure, try both and see what works best for you)
What is the preferred network setting for fascinate?(Wcdma, cdma, gsm.....) (you shouldn't have to choose, not sure where you see this option, Verizon is CDMA, if there's an automatic option choose it)
Thank you so much for helpin' a whitey!!!!

I really dig this ROM a lot. However, I found that incoming and outgoing volume is very quiet. I can't figure out any way to fix it? Also, the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work right either? I'll be in a call (a quiet one) and I'll go to look at the keypad and it's black when it usually is lit? You can turn it back on manually with vol up/down but that's a pain in the ass.
Other than that I haven't found too many other flaws. It's wicked hella fast and has a bunch of tweaks and wut-not so I'm gonna keep toying with it and hopefully these things get fixed soon? I mean, it IS a whole new phone with this action!
Thanks again and keep me posted if you find any fixes or additional grooviness!

Yep. Low call volume and the proximity sensor thing are known issues. I'm already used to bumping one of the volume buttons after a call. No biggie. The call volume issue is already being worked on for Glitchs' next kernel release. You should spend some time at xda.

Let me know if you find a fix for prox. sensor issue, and/or incoming/outgoing call vol issue?
I get lost on xda but i'm slowly gettin' used to it. Don't "flame" me either!!
I'm really stoked on this RoM, it's just so damn smooth!! Thanks again for turning me on to it.
Oh yeah, my girlfriend really digs it too. She's an android noob so it's like a whole new adventure for her!

Did you see the 7/25 CM7 update, have you applied it, and did you keep Glitch? Let me know?

i flashed 07/25 rom and then used the kernel recommended by the dev, OMPJ kernel. no overclocking or voltage control options. It worked but not as fast. It fixed the prox sensor issue but there are still phone issues

I then caught wind of the free upgrade to DroidX2, Dinc2 or Charge and flashed back to stock at which time I realized the data issues i was having were on the stock rom too......so i called Verizon, and they offered to swap it out for one of those three phones, took the Charge, free upgrade to basically a better bigger version of the Fascinate with 4G and without the other issues the Fascinate had......go to the xda general Fascinate forums for more info

Applied CM7 7/25 update, kept Glitch, seems to work rather nice. Be sweet if Glitch woould get an update? Let me know how that Charge is treating you!?!? Peace..

edit**I've been trying to get the upgrade as well, to no avail!!?? I've been with VZW for like, 10 years with no complications or issues. They've always been real quick to help a loyal customer.
Rep tells me he could give me a new Fascinate by tomorrow, but I want Dinc2 or Charge!! He says if my replacement is acting stupid I would be eligible for upgrade. What to do?
It just feels like I'm getting jerked around!

I am using the 7/28 and Glitch and LOVING IT. OC to 1200, which was never stable before on any kernel rom combo. Rock solid on here. -50 on everything 900mhz and below and have 100mhz disabled. I want to upgrade with all the new nightlies, but not really sure which one to use...I was watching the nightly change log but havent found anything that said it fixed the volume and doesnt have anything else broke. So until I find someone raving about a nightly that has fixed it all I am going to stay with my 7/28
