"HTC screen" and then "waiting" icon upon waking from sleep...

You are the first person that I had heard of that doesn't have a task killer and still has this issue. Would you mind listing the apps that you have installed? If Nick does the same, we may find a culprit in the list.

Sure sure:

I have the same issue every once in a while, and dont automatically kill anything. Probably once a week I will press the green send button to wake the phone, I will get the HTC screen (the one you get after the Verizon graphic on startup). It then goes to my home screen and just like at startup is says loading for 10-15 seconds. I would say the entire process takes 30 seconds, maybe a little more. I am very aware of the apps I have installed, and this did not start when I installed something. It seemd to start right around the first OTA, but hasnt been that big of a deal since its only abount once a month. When I check my Up Time after this happens, it has not been re-set ... thus it isnt a full restart.

Mine started after the first OTA as well. In fact, the very first time I started the phone after the OTA is when it did it. Then it did it three times in a row immediately after that. It's very annoying, especially because these mandatory updates are supposed to fix problems and it seems like they create more issue than they fix.

Since the OTA, my gps has become very spotty, my youtube app no longer works, and I have this issue. If the upcoming updates are as helpful as the first, please count me out, HTC.

Well I uninstalled the Automatic Task Killer app two days ago... I haven't noticed any significant decrease in battery life. I also haven't had the HTC-symbol-on-wake-up issue either. Now usually that issue would only pop up every couple of days though so I don't think I'm out of the woods yet.

I've installed and uninstalled ATK a few times now. The last two times that I uninstalled it, I noticed the htc screen thing as well. I'm keeping that stuff off my phone forever. Seriously, I notice occasional lagging with and without ATK. I notice the same battery life both ways. It adds absolutely nothing in my experience, except that htc screen thing which I'd prefer it not to do.

You know, I originally came to this forum to check out this very issue. After lurking and reading this post through, taking the advice given and getting rid of the Advanced Task Killer that I had installed at the VZW reps advice upon buying the phone, no more issues.

Seems to me that even though it wasn't listed on my "kill app" list it was knocking out some sort of critical services that I needed.

Either way, no more hanging and that damn htc screen hasn't popped up since. No noticeable decrease in my battery life, so I'm a happy camper.
