I rooted my phone last night for the first time and am totally new to this, but that went very well. Got rid of all the bloatware and found this so figured I would give it a shot. Everything seemed to be fine.... but it's looping on the bubble android screen.... HELP!

It takes awhile on first boot but reboot and see if that helps

Hi..
I am rooted but I am unable to get into recovery.. the screen just stays black, so I have to remove the battery every time I try to get into recovery mode.

I press power, down and home..right?...well.. for some reason it's not working.

yes, power, vol down and home, but a) you can only do it that way from when the phone is off, and b) you hold all three down at the same time and do not let go until the recovery screen comes up. it should stay on the mainly black screen with the little white "LG" in the center, and go from there straight into recovery. It will take *several* seconds.

does that help or are you still saying it's not working after doing all that?

Does the phone need to be rooted in order to access the recovery mode?
I ask because Im planning on installing the stock rom and trying it that way.

Just to boot into recovery? Not necessarily. That key combination will take you into whatever recovery is installed on the phone. Rooted or not rooted, there is a stock recovery that comes with the phone that will simply wipe and restore you to stock to a degree.

Then there is a custom recovery that you must install manually that will enable you to install roms and other things. You cannot install a custom rom without it. You say you're planning on installing the stock rom--does this imply that you currently do not have the stock rom installed? If not, that either means you were able to boot into recovery before this, or it means that you have never installed a rom, and are misunderstanding something pretty heavily. please elaborate further.

Hi.. what I meant was that my phone is now rooted...but since I am unable to get into recovery...i wanted to try to install the stock (unrooted) rom to see if I am able to go into recovery and possibly then be able to install a custom rom....what do you think?

That won't help. Going into recovery from what i understand is an entirely different boot sequence. Even if you have a corrupt rom, as long as you haven't totally bricked the phone, you should still be able to boot into recovery (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this).

Have you installed any custom recovery like http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...nally-custom-recovery-2-2-1-stock-phones.html ? It involves connecting your phone to your computer and using a terminal or command prompt to enter a series of commands to install a couple of image files, etc. Does that sound familiar?

Not trying to patronize you, but I fear we're not on the same page, so I'm trying to correct or at least make sure that we are.

Yes I am familiar with that.. that is exactly how I rooted my optimus M and get data working..so we are exactly on the same page.

Thing is that eventhough my phone is fully rooted (I am able to run setcpu and other programs that require rooting), I am not able to get into recovery :(

Rooting your phone and installing recovery are two different things.

Are you saying that prior to now, you have been able to boot into recovery before, and are no longer able?

I know they are two different things, I was pointing out that I am not completely clueless, lol.

Now, to be honest I don't remember ever trying to get into recovery because I didn't need to install a new rom until i found out that there is at least one custom rom that can be installed for the Op. M, so I decided to give it a shot, but I hit the wall due to the fact that I'm not able to get into recovery.

This. ^^^^^^^

To clarify a bit further though, after the black screen, does it just stay there indefinitely, or does it eventually boot back into android?

It stays black indefinitely.
I have tried that recovery but I get an error after I type this line

"mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak"

it says failed.. no such file.
Yes... i have extracted the zip on the sd card like the instruction said.

One other thing though... for some reason CMD does not recognize adb shell...so for me to root this phone I had to do everything I was supposed to do in CMD..I had to open terminal and do it there...I worked and that's why I am now rooted...but for some reason command prompt does not see adb shell on my phone.

no offense but you should READ the whole post before attempting anything. =/

If there is an error after mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak just ignore it. It will not make a difference or give a problem.

That is written right under the instruction set.

also if your not familiar with adb shell (like me) you can use Terminal Emulator right on your phone to run the instruction code, that is what I did for rooting my phone.

Well.. I thought I was familiar with adb shell as I have used it before on other phones..but I guess I don't know it that much...

But, as I mentioned on my previous post I did use terminal emulator and that's how I rooted my phone... anyway... I decided to give it another go on terminal and this time I was able to get into the recovery... Thank you guys for being so patient with me and all my nooobness... I am good now...cheers.
