Netflix WORKS on the Optimus V!!!!

Should I click OK to get the new version or would that possibly give me other problems?
You can click ok until your finger breaks, currently it won't update the app. You have to download the apk to your phone and install it manually. The v1.3 has issues too. The audio and video go out of sync, it does however remove the green bar.

This may give me a reason to root
Do I need a custom rom for rooting? (Yes I I'm sure it's in the all things root thread but I'm lazy)

This also may mean that our phones will get official support at some point.
You don't need to establish a Permanent ROOT to have a custom recovery(the stock recovery doesn't allow you to make a backup of your system). A costom Kernel(If you flash Pickasticks kernel over the stock ROM it will allow you to overclock the CPU and makes game play smoother and faster). A custom ROM(Harmonia 1.3-a lot more app space;Bumblebee 2.4-more app space than stock,and can safely be overclocked with some "V's" as high as 825Hz;or the many CM7 ROMs like the one I have which is a Gingerbread ROM)all this can be done Fast and easy with ROMTools by mmmark111. It will establish a temporary ROOT that goes away at the next reboot,but will allow you to do the above mentioned Tweaks, plus allow you to change the Boot Animation and the theme. At the very next reboot there will be no more ROOT,but you will have a custom recovery that will allow you to change the above mentioned things at will,and whenever you feel like it. Plus allow you to make Backups of your ROMs. I have the stock ROM,Bumblee,and the BACKside backed up. If I want to change a ROM,I go to recovery and wipe everything(takes about 4min). Go to backup and restore,select the ROM I want to use and it will install(takes about 4to5 min).Then reboot(3to5min). When it is done I have the selected ROM on my phone complete with all the apps ,widgets,launchers,browsers,etc.. All exactly how I left them.If you would like more info go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...el-rom-change-boot-animation.html#post3000366 for more info on what ROM's and Kernel's, and recovery's work with the "V" go here [Reference Guide] Optimus V Modding (READ THIS TO GET STARTED) - Android Forums I hope this will help you to see just how easy it is. Latter, if you want a full ROOT go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...ide-rooting-without-computer.html#post2985787

I pulled the APK from my Nexus One which is one of the 4 supported phones able to run the legit Netflix app released today...
BUT, I believe the APK is available on XDA.
As for the Build.prop...
Its located in /system (Yep, a system file so CAUTION!!!)
MAKE A COPY AND KEEP IT SAFE!!!!!
Edit with root explorer
Change the following...

ro.product.model=VM670
ro.product.brand=VirginMobile
ro.product.name=aosp.thunderc
ro.product.device=thunderc
ro.product.board=thunderc

to

ro.product.model=Nexus One
ro.product.brand=google
ro.product.name=passion
ro.product.device=passion
ro.product.board=mahimahi

a couple spaces down you'll see

ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
change to
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC

save and reboot.

I REPEAT!!!!! KEEP THE ORIGINAL Build.Prop.

Here is the vid of Netflix streaming...
YouTube - Netflix streaming on an Optimus V.

it will not let me edit the build.prop
says it is a read only file.

You have to be rooted to edit your build.prop
However root is no longer required to run netflix. You just need to download the apk to your phone and install it.

Koopakid has a tutorial here: http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus...ix-1-3-updated-7-20-11-no-more-green-bar.html

There are two versions, 1.2.2 which has a green bar at the top of the screen and a color problem (almost like when you get the Sunday funnies and the printer didn't line up the colors correctly) & 1.3 which removes the green bar and the color issue, but some users have reported an audio sync problem.

*facepalm*
Netflix has removed the device check from the .apk it's self. I posted the latest version a few posts back. They still filter in the market but if you can get the apk you can install it with out having to edit build.prop or do any hacks of any kind to get it working. Yes, the OV is not officially supported but that doesn't mean that it does not work.

I have tried downloading the updated apk but, it will not download??? The last version was no problem. I have opra mini and skyfire, one says parse error, the other says download failure. Anyone know why I can't download and install? :(

alright I have the Optimus V I followed the steps above and installed the 1.3 version via apk installer. Shows it was successful and I have the netflix icon when i try to load it goes to just a white screen and nothing happens. Any ideas?

EDIT: Uninstalled and re-installed a couple times and now it is working. thanks.

EDIT2: Got it working but audio/video is way off and gets stuck in an endless buffering loop and video is not smooth. Uninstalled and installed vs 1.2.1, getting the green bar but audio/video is smooth and insync and no buffering issues.
