Gmail Breaks FriendCaster Notifications

I was reading the comments about Gmail and the info on FriendCaster. Both apps have an update available. It seems that the latest Gmail update breaks the Facebook notifications I get from FriendCaster. The latest Gmail app does not allow FriendCaster to integrate with it. That means the Facebook notification feature in FriendCaster that is based on Facebook notifications via email no longer works.

The feature I use in FriendCaster is the Gmail option for notifications. I set up Facebook to send notifications via email to my Gmail account. FriendCaster intercepts these emails and plays the notification sound on my phone. FriendCaster then deletes these emails automatically, so my inbox is not cluttered with Facebook emails that I already know about. The great thing about this feature is that I get Facebook push notifications.

I am very upset that the latest Gmail update breaks this feature in FriendCaster. FriendCaster had to update their app to take this feature out since it no longer works. What upsets me is that the reason I actually paid for FriendCaster was for this particular feature.

For now, I am just not going to update my Gmail or FriendCaster apps. It doesn't appear that the new Gmail has any really cool feature that I want. The same with FriendCaster. I'm pretty much stuck with these versions now.

I am hoping that Google fixes the Gmail app so that the integration with FriendCaster Pro works again.

I would sooner think it's Friendcaster that needs to update to accommodate the changes to the Gmail app. There's nothing for Google to "fix" in their Gmail app. They simply changed some of the methods in how it works. Friendcaster (and other 3rd party apps) simply need to update to accommodate those changes.
Exactly right.

Go Launcher Notification is also not working after the Gmail update. Hopefully they rectify this soon. The Gmail update has only been out a few days, so it's just a matter of time before other apps get updated.

I hope that FriendCaster updates their app to do this some time soon. Does the new Gmail app still allow integration by third party apps?

I am in the same boat, and not only is it the only reason that I paid for the app, but I also just purchased the app a week ago AND I already updated both gmail and friendcaster.

If what you guys are saying is true then I don't blame gmail, but Friendcaster described it as "Gmail blocked integration from 3rd party apps" which sounds more like a permanent block, not a feature change. I hope it gets resolved soon :(

Could be. Hang in there though. One of the programs I use that broke due to the update has been fixed. I'm pretty sure its less complex than FriendCaster though which is why I think it was fixed so quickly. You shouldn't be far behind.

That sounds promising if one of the apps has a fix for it.

That's gotta hurt. I've been burned before with an app I updated that no longer worked as well (Google Maps). After that incident, I always wait a few days and check the comments to see if there is any issue with new updates.

Yeah. That's what I saw in the description/comments in the market. That's why I am refraining from updating these two apps for now. The new updates don't have any new features that I really want that is worth losing FB notifications (that actually work).

I decided to update today to the latest version that claims to fix this. The developers blog claims it is 100% working now. However, after setting gmail option and checking the delete option, nothing happens. I still get gmail notifications in my inbox and the app doesn't alert me. I have been using the pro version for a long time and have the settings correct. Obviously, I have the notifications set to alert me in FC and FB using my gmail which I selected in the sync option, entered my password etc...

How is this working exactly? Where is is intercepting my gmail? On the device or on the server?

I just turned on the setting again myself. I'll let you know if it works for me, but I would check that you input yoru gmail password correctly into Friendcaster and that you selected the Gmail (experimental) method for notifications.

I just got my Gingerbread update last night. I noticed that after the update, FriendCaster seems to still delete my email, but I don't seem to hear the FriendCaster notification sound anymore. Before, I would hear my email notification sound, but it gets cut off before it finishes. Then I hear the FriendCaster notification sound.

I'll check tonight to see if things are any different.

Edit: False alarm. FC notifications still work.
