What makes you so sure?

This pic that EarlyMon posted. Based on where the cutouts are, it looks to me like it could possibly be a replacement cover, rather than a case.

Pic on previous page with big kickstand. Pretty sure the famous 26 minute vid called it a replacement cover, but didn't show it.

Hmm. The few things I've read have been calling it a cover. I can see how it could fit as a replacement back too, though, so idk. It just looks to me like something that would snap on to the phone like a case. I'm interested to see which it is. If it's a case, then forget about it. I don't want this thing any bigger, but if it replaces the back cover, I may consider it.

After looking at the OEM back cover, I'm more convinced that they found a way to make an optional "replacement" cover, rather than just a case.

Yes, that's my understanding as well - it replaces the original rear access battery service hatch (or whatever we're calling the cover!).

Which piece of hardware might you be referring to that replaces the battery door?

Were you referring to a battery door with a kickstand?

If it's along the lines of the accessory that mobilecityonline has for pre-order, I guess it's going to be a case:

They don't have a picture yet, since it's not released, so we'll see if that changes.

Aww, the innards of the Evo aren't going to be red anymore, just the battery cover?

Weaksauce. :(

I know, right? When I first saw the EVO's inside I was taken back a little, as it seemed kind of odd to make the inside red, but I did like it. At least the standard Sprint cover will have the red outline to get a similar feel to the 4G.

Anyone else notice the 3.5mm headphone jack is bare aluminum?

It just does not jive with the rest of the phone for me. I can see why they did it: It is supposed to coordinate with the silver accents on the camera hardware buttons, camera bezel, and capacitive touch buttons. But to me it looks like a tiny eyesore up there by itself. I'm planning to paint it black ASAP - hopefully it won't chip or wear off from use.

Anyone have other trim customizations planned for their handset?

Awesome! Just got my Evo 3D earlier.

Looks like the little aluminum ring around the 3.5mm jack is a little piece that is tacked into the battery door by 2 little tabs. From the outside of the battery door I put my knife on the ring right near where the tab is located on the back side and swiftly but carefully pushed down and un-seated the piece from the tabs that holds it in. The aluminum ring is now free from battery door and does not annoy me anymore. No paint required! Quick easy modification that makes the phone look better in my opinion. The piece could even be re-installed.

I hope that made sense. I took some pics to illustrate if needed.

Yes need pics lol
Sorry, they are really crappy and not helpful enough. I wasn't going for quality, just quick snapshots with no settings changed (taken with the Evo 4G).

The two black dots on either side are the plastic posts that are holding the piece in place.
And where the red arrows are pointing (I've got mad MSpaint skillz) is where I applied pressure to the part from the opposite side. Basically you push the little ring back through the hole towards the inside of the battery door.

This is the part, on my mouse pad, freed from the battery door no harm done.

In my case that part could carefully be reseated on the plastic posts again if needed (re-sell next year maybe?). And if it didn't stay, a dab of super glue would bond it back onto the posts.

If anyone attempts this I accept no responsibility for damages. I was pretty gentle yet swift about it and it came out pretty easy. Careful not to knife up the headphone jack opening.

It leaves a slight gap between the battery door and the chassis, but it looks better than the aluminum shine to me. The small piece could easily be painted black and reinstalled to block the slight gap (keep dust out) and provide a finished look.

Does anyone know where they sell the battery cover with a black or grey ring around the 2 cameras instead of the red. i'm looking for just the battery cover/door not the entire back housing

I have yet to see any actual replacement battery door covers as of yet. However, with the multiple colors already shown on three different HTC websites, red/gold/black, I do believe they will release replacement covers at some point.

Anyone removed the words by the 2D/3D camera switch yet?

I carefully used the edge of a razor blade to try to gently scrape the painted words off (it works alot of the time for removing annoying wording from things without ruining the surrounding material), but it looks like there is not black paint under the wording. I made the tiniest scrape on the 'E' in 'Mode' and it is silver/bare aluminum underneath - it is not noticeable to anyone but me.

I'm assuming paint thinner would ruin the black paint around the words, and really fine sandpaper is undoubtedly going to scuff the black paint around the words as well. Any other ideas out there?

Also, I've got a new battery door in the mail coming next week. I haven't decided what color to re-paint the red ring yet. My initial thought was gold or black like the GSM and HTC Dev. models, but I realized I have the freedom to do anything I want with it. Don't know what to do.

Received the battery door in the mail today. It is definitely 100% OEM and legit since it has the same part number and screen printed date codes. It was only $9.99 with $1.99 shipping which is very reasonable since others on ebay are $20 and up ($39.99!? for a battery door?). Unfortunately all the cheap ones sold.

Keep an eye out he may offer more in the future?

My only complaint is that it is a bit warped (from shipping I bet) and the silver ring around the cams is scuffed up. But I'm painting it anyways so it probably wont matter. I still don't know what color to go with.

I emailed already...they dont sell just the battery cover....

ORIGINAL OEM HOUSING BACK COVER FOR SPRINT HTC EVO 3D P | eBay

Yeah, I tried emailing them too way back when.
They seem like a wholesale rip-off, and I'm betting they are owned by the same company as all the wholesale Evo 3D parts listed (kr-net and uk-hi tech. They seem so similar and are both based out of Hong Kong even though one claims to be UK). They both have had those parts listed from even before the Evo 3D was released. And the fact that they won't sell the battery doors just smells so fishy to me.

Maybe in the fall after the Euro Evo 3D is released we will see the other colored battery doors start to proliferate and be sold by real people. Until then you could always buy a red one for cheap like I listed and paint it like I plan to do.
