Help 3hours and 30 minutes and already 40% battery

I've never had an issue with sync or battery life on my Droid 1 with the Facebook app. I'm using my Droid 3 exactly the same and getting around 10 total hours of battery life compared to over 24 hours with my Droid 1. After a week or so of testing, in my experience, it would seem that either the Droid 3, or Android 2.3 combined with the Facebook app (again in my case) is causing a higher than reasonable battery drain. I need to do some more testing to be 100% certain, but that's where my suspicions are focused.

It had very noticeable drain on my X.

Moderate Usage, Performance settings, Standard setting for Facebook, Every Hour, i have 66 Apps, including weather and other apps that sync...and I used the Google maps for 15min and the D3 get pretty warm...

how? did you do anything special?

I'm @ 70% with just under 2 hours..
I've played 4 turns of "words w/ friends"
Probably 20-25 texts.. and thats it!
I have gmail and Facebook syncing.. but I haven't had any notifications from those.

I think I might get the extended battery, so I won't have to worry about battery life.
Also, I'm guessing its safe to keep a batter fully charged and not in a phone correct?
That way I can always keep the stock battery full incase I don't have time to charge.. Or if I travel (13+ hour drives and I'll be on my phone playing games and surfing the web the whole time)

That's my idea too.

Earlier I posted that I did a battery exchange, because mine was dying within hours. I have the extended battery in. Yesterday at work, it was in my dock most of the day, so it was at 100% when I left work. I didn't charge it last night, and today we were at our lake (an iffy signal area), and I played music for about 3 hours on the dock. Multiple phone calls, several texts, played games for awhile and I'm at 40% right now. I don't have any apps syncing automatically, and do have data saver on. I use wifi at home most of the time.

I love having the extended battery!

So how much bigger and heavier does it make the Droid 3? Its sad that I'm looking to resort to this on a brand new phone running the same apps that my D1 got over 18 hours a day easy on but you gotta do what you gotta do to make this thing usable.

It doesn't make it "heavier" it makes it more "solid". Add to that the fact that instead of 1mm of being exposed, the camera becomes 1mm recessed, and it instantly becomes worth it. 2mm thicker for an extended battery is *nothing* compared to how they used to be, and it's about a 28% extension of power, which is quite decent. With *heavy* usage, that's about another hour of *heavy* usage.

Honestly, I don't notice any difference. It might be a tad heavier, but as far as extending out the back, I don't notice any difference at all. The battery comes with a new cover for the back, and it's flat just like with the regular battery.

Well worth it, I think. Actually, I think it should come stock with the extended battery. Now that I have it, I can't imagine going without it.

I'm almost to the point of going crazy wondering if I should just return the D3. I have until Wed and my 14 day window will be gone. I really like the D3 but this battery is ridiculous. Went to a VZW store today and they just blew me off when asking for a replacement battery saying that 6 - 8 hours is "all their devices get on a charge". When I told them my D1 easily got 18 hours they started blathering about how this is dual core now. Then I told them I was testing with data syncing turned off and virtually no usage and still only getting 6 - 7 hours and they didn't even look at me and started saying "yup, that's true". Really ticked me off.

To pay another $50 for 1/2 way acceptable battery life is just irritating.

One thing i have noticed is that my wife's seems to be better on battery. Her hardware build is 30/11 and mine is 31/11. I'm wondering if there is something to this at all. Its the only difference I see. She even syncs to more services than I do!!

What assholes.

Your Droid3 battery is probably defective. Maybe if you return it they will let you go back to your old phone and plan. Keep an eye here for information about the problem getting cleared up, either with battery defects being acknowledged or software updates. My Droid3 and Susan's both get a day's use, but it varies a lot, and big battery drainers for me have been IMO and Phandroid app, so I set them to auto-kill with the pre-loaded TaskManager.

c:Geo also seems to use a lot of power. Susan uses BluTooth, and that doesn't seem to drain power beyond reasonable expectation.

We keep our Droid3's on chargers whenever we can through the day, because getting more than 8 hours off either of our phone's stock batteries seems to be pretty optimistic, though its really unpredictable and varies a LOT.

I even bought an Extended Capacity battery from Verizon, but Verizon's black texturized 2-piece rubber case's back part will not fit if I'm using the extended battery's slightly thicker case, so I don't use it much.

Speaking of bad battery examples, last Sat., my battery went from 100% to 20% in 6 hours. I had Wi-Fi on for ~30 min., GPS on for ~1 hr., only made a few min. of phone calls, sent/received 25-30 texts, surfed the Web/played light intensity game for ~30 min., had ESPN Score Center app running in the background for ~1 hr. to check my Yankees' score updates, took about 65 pics, and shot a 2-min. video. Pretty lousy. :(

Today, normal day at work and use of my phone (very little voice, as usual) and battery went from 100% to 10% in about 14 hrs.

In both instances, I have Juice Defender running at the default mode. I also have the stock battery.

Wow my battery sounds like garbage next to yours. I'm still getting 8 hours a day maximum even if I do nothing on it but a couple of texts.

I'm unsure whether I should go through the hassle of attempting to get a new battery from Verizon and then buy the extended battery or just buy the extended battery and deal with a crappier battery backup.

I've been going full days of using only 40% of my battery after having pushed e-mail, Facebook, checked some news, and done some light web browsing or Stardunk gaming. I installed Words with Friends, and that sucked my battery dry in something like 3 hours. Scrabble app was the same deal. Apparently what looks to me like a pretty simple requires a lot of juice for some reason.

It certainly can't hurt to go to your local VZW store and say you think you have a defective battery and would like a replacement battery.

I went by myself and the VZW associate wasn't interested in doing anything for me. My guess is he thought I was a teenager trying to get something free.

So I instead invested in an extended battery I'll charge it up tonight and see how it lasts tomorrow.

While I was at the store there was a bunch of people picketing the Verizon store as well and the sales associate said they were picketing about the landline. Idk what that was about but ah well haha.

I did swap the battery with my wife's D3 and I have the exact same results. By noon I was at 30% left. Went online and found the same extended battery and back cover from Moto that VZW is selling for $50 for $29.99.

I tried Juice Defender and it only seemed to chew the battery more. I am beside myself at how some folks here are getting awesome battery life. I really *really* like this phone except for that battery issue. The Bionic is looking more and more like a small tablet rather than a phone so I'm even more glad I picked up the D3 and didn't wait.

If we could just nail down something unique about the phones having issues. I have hope as some don't have the same problems. Did those that don't have problems have an early build of the device? Or later? Hmm...

At least you've determined it wasn't the battery. Maybe try a factory reset and installing as absolute little as you can and see what happens for a couple days.

16 Hours an at 64% Battery
34% Cell Standby
32% Phone Idle
16% Android System
14% WiFi
4% Display
2% Android OS
I have it on Performance on Battery Mode
All the Apps that Sync are set for Sync manually or 3 hours

I did put a contact cleaner on my battery contacts Deoxit D5, it helps...

Are you by chance really close to multiple cell towers when wifi is not on?

My wife is getting poor battery life too and this is her first Android phone. Pretty much stock too without more than a couple apps that I don't even have and no settings that would have sync'd with Google.

An interesting thread going on in the Moto forums has someone who can demonstrate that though 3G antennas are closer to him, the D3 is still favoring a more distant 3G tower. Some even have extender devices in their home because of poor tower signals and it will favor the tower over the extender! If that is the case, that would use tons of battery and would fit right inline with the Cell Standby stats. Maybe it is it, maybe not. I installed the app "Antennas" and found that my D3 jumps from tower to tower and favors one pretty far away. I need to verify the app is correct with the other towers it shows me (don't remember seeing towers in those locations but never paid attention either) before saying I am seeing the same thing.

Ok, this gets weirder by the day. Yesterday, I had an unbelievable day with 90% battery left at noon. I ran a full 16 hours and still had 20% left. I almost shed a tear of joy. Today, same routine, sitting in the same places at the same times, it was completely dead (no, not just flashing red, completely dead) by 2:30pm. I just don't get this phone. I did notice it hitting 1x a lot and today my "time without signal" was in the upper 20%. Also checked running apps and there was nothing different.

Back to the drawing board. Thinking of doing a complete factory reset this weekend and turning off backing and restoring data from Google but I'm still convinced that there is a radio problem draining the battery somehow.
