Help Droid keyboard repeating letters

Has anyone had any problems with the droid's pull-out keyboard repeating certain letters? At first I thought it was just a user error, but over the last few weeks it's been getting more and more apparent.

e.g. While trying to type "inside" it will instead type "insidee" or instead of "tomorrow" it will type "tomorroww".

Anybody else have this issue?

when i use a generic charger the virtual keyboard does it while charging but when i unplug it stopped

I was going to ask why you're typing the whole word and not relying on the droid's predictive text feature. But then I remembered that I have that because of the TalkToMe Keyboard app. Just another reason to buy it.

Even still, I typed this sentence with the Android keyboard (no predictive text) and I'm not experiencing double letters anywhere.

I too have double input problems, and also have TalkToMe Keyboard installed for what it's worth. Not sure if they are releated.

I just confirmed that a 3rd party charger causes virtual keyboard to act erratically. I tested with the AC charger that came with my blackberry storm. This behavior does not occur when running the Droid on battery power or on the charger it came with.

I am wondering if using the Blackberry Storm charger is harming the droid. The phone charges just fine and that is the only noticable problem. Anyone know?

My original problem (which is still happening, mind you) was with the hardware keyboard.

It makes me sound very drunk..

i.e. "Hey what are you up to?" turns into "Heey Whhat are yoou up too??"

Anybody else?

This actually happened to me for the first time the other day when I was using the browser logging into an account. The keyboard kept adding extra letters making me misspell my password. I tried a reboot and the problem was still there. It happened when I would text also, eventually it went away and hasn't happened since. It was very frustrating :eek:

I was using the on screen stock keyboard when it happened

I'm SURE I'm having this problem.

I do not have keyboard apps installed and this is cause enough for me to get this replaced.

This is plain and simple a defect IMHO.

I would however be interested to hear one of you wipe\hard reset your device out to confirm. Assuming this would be Verizon's "Next step" in confirming a defective device.

Shoot me your thoughts on this and if anyone has already attempted this.

I had this random thought to fix this today and have tested so it seems to have worked.

Turn the phone off
On the physical keyboard, run back and forth all of the keys
Do not rub to hard nor too lightly
Rub as hard as you would if there was sticky gunk on the keyboard and you are trying to get it off.

After a good rub down power it back up

Now compose and email and type away!

Shoot us your results... so far I have not seen one key has repeated or duplicated the character

I have same issue with virtual keyboard when it was connected to generic wall charger. Once charger disconnected, the problem of typing extra characters went away.

Hi. I keep getting the repeated letters and sound drunk also! It started a few days ago; I've had the Droid since the day it came out and no problems like this before. I tried the 'fix' posted here by turning phone off and 'rubbing' keyboard. Didn't work. I'm using the device keyboard, not the virtual keyboard. Any other ideas? Thanks, it's very very troublesome and I do not like the virtual keybord. PS...had someone else type on my keyboard to see if it was perhaps my input technique, and the same thing happened.

I fixed this issue. Here's how I did it:

I tried the "turn off android keyboard" and it seemed a bit better, but still getting some double-characters and it is really annoying. The reason I got the droid was for the pull out keyboard else I would have the Incredible. Going to call Verizon Wireless.

I had this problem, too, once before. At the same time I was having issues with my space key, where it wouldn't input a space or it would double space. Over the course of a few days it frustrated me so much that I ended up getting a replacement under the manufacturer warranty (which is another story in and of itself).

Folks, I'm experiencing double letter hits as well (examples: like "tthis" or "thiss).

After a lot of investigating and talking with people, I've discovered it's the Android keyboard that is the issue. I reported this to Google here: Issue 14755 - android - Android keyboard glitch: double-letters - Project Hosting on Google Code and here at the Google Help Forums: Keyboard registers double-hits randomly... - Google Mobile Help.

Please visit the links and star the report and/or add your own two cents. In the report are also instructions on how to recreate the problem. See if you guys can try.
