Root ClockworkMod Recovery [For Motorola Triumph]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Done:

Hey Koush,

I've successfully ported CWM to the Motorola Triumph WX435. If my device configs are okay, I'd like to get the Triumph added to ROM Manager.

You can find my repo here: https://github.com/ikarosdev/android_device_motorola_triumph

I had to do these things for the port to work:

  • Had to add 32 bit graphics.
  • Add a custom keymapping
  • Adjust the pagesize in /system/core/mkbootimg/mkbootimg.c from 2048 to 4096
  • Not include recovery partition in fstab.

I've had many testers confirm that it works. They've successfully done a nandroid backup and restored. While working on CM7, I've flashed a zip just fine. However, USB mounting is not working.

Another big thing is that the device does not have a recovery partition. You have to put the phone in download mode and swap out the original recovery.img found in a fat partition at /dev/block/mmcblk0p1. In light of this, I've had to include custom releasetools.

Off-topic:
I had to manually change the pagesize in /system/core/mkbootimg/mkbootimg.c. Am I doing this wrong? If not, could we add a flag and build define so that way it'll be easier to have it build boot images for other devices. For example: TARGET_USES_4K_PAGESIZE?

Thanks,

Isaac

when he said "stock rom", what he meant was "stock rom PLUS Virgin Mobile bloatware". It is not a factory rom, it is a factory rom including the virgin mobile bloatware.

heads up so that no one wastes their time. it could be useful if you screwed something up. otherwise it is not useful for you.

It is a stock rom... go to the store, buy a Triumph, and it comes with all that crap STOCK out of the box... if that were removed then it would cease to be a stock rom...

Someone should edit the first post with a complete instructoin guide on how to do this.

Absolutely. Anytime there is a 'support' thread on doing something, the primary post should be edited as things evolutionize, so that folks don't have to go through unnecessary headaches. Though I'm not implying this is the case here I've seen on far, far too many sites where someone creates a thread showing others how to do something, only for folks to find out that the instructions weren't quite up to snuff, and poof....the original poster is nowhere to be found or doesn't care enough to back up the support. Again, that's not implying this is what happened here. ;)

Well, it looks like 903Tex's intent was simply to get the ball rolling on getting a custom recovery for you guys (and it appears that he was successful ;)).

Looks like there are several knowledgeable, competent folks here on the Moto Triumph root forum that would be capable of starting such a how-to thread. If someone does start one, I could see about getting this thread renamed to something like "let's get CWM for the Triumph", etc. (more thought and a better title would be used, of course) and the new thread could have the more appropriate title that this thread currently "owns".

Just let me know how things shake-out.

Cheers!

My request for CWM finally got noticed by Koush. He claims there's an issue during the build, but I'm not getting it.

I'm pushing for CWM-triumph to be in ROM Manager by this weekend.

SWEET. So if (ok, when) you get CWM on there all we have to do is use ROM Manager to update it? (Rather, what would you recommend us doing to have it up to date?)

Yup, also it's important to get your device supported in ROM Manager because it allows developers for your device to share their ROMs. The ROM Share service system will opened to us Triumph users.

The Triumph has already been forked to be included in CM (much to my surprise), but Koush is claiming that the recovery image doesn't build. Obviously, it does as many people have built it just fine.

Wait.... you're now telling me that we may see a official port of CM7?

I'm not going to say it isn't possible, but the Triumph has a long way to go.

I'm guessing the fork, which can be seen here, is just for Koush or someone to make a recovery, but if done properly, I'm sure the Triumph can be an "official" device.
