Help Disappearing Apps

Hello,
Lately, I've noticed an annoying problem with my EVO 3D (stock - unrooted).

Every now and then (maybe once in a couple of weeks or so), I'll notice that one of the app icons has changed to the generic icon and clicking on it does nothing. Looking under applications, that application would no longer be there!

I will now have to delete that icon from my homepage, and redownload the app from the market and add the app shortcut to my homepage and it works fine.

(this is not the same issue as the app icon for apps on sd changing to generic icon - where changing the scene will bring the icon back)

I've seen this happen for google translate (from android market) and soundhound (from amazon appstore) and barcode scanner (from android market) and google goggles (from android market).

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, is there a fix for this?
Thanks!

are the apps installed to an SD card or are they residing in handset memory?

did you install or uninstall anything prior to this?

is it the same apps each time or random apps?

are they free apps or paid?

care to list the app(s) causing this?

what SD card are you using? the one that came with the handset or aftermarket/3rd party?

Scratch that... I think I know what happened. I switched my SD chip midway after getting the phone and I guess a lot of the apps were on the previous SD chip because I do remember saving a lot of them onto the chip. That makes sense. Thanks for jogging my memory!

* All these apps were on the SD card.

* install/uninstall - no - not in the few days before this happened at least.

* It is different apps each time

* These are all free apps (except soundhound that I got from amazon's free-app-for-a day)

* I've seen this happen for google translate (from android market) and soundhound (from amazon appstore) and barcode scanner (from android market) and google goggles (from android market). What's odd is that this happens to only one app at a time - while other apps on the microSD are fine... it is almost like the app got removed remotely - but these are apps like google translate/goggles installed from the market, so can't imagine google would have uninstalled it like it removes malware apps..

* This is a 3rd party SD card - PNY 32GB class 10, and recently with the Lexar 32GB class 10 (I swapped it out to see if this was because of the SD card, but it happened with google translate a couple of days ago)

It is not a huge deal to reinstall the app, but I'm curious to know what is causing this. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

with the SD card in the mix, id side with the SD card. i have seen reports (and saw this myself) of the SD card formatting going bonkers and showing apps now there. and run of the card through a windows error checker help fix any read/write errors that may be on the card.

when you say random apps, are all of these random apps on the SD card or are some in resident handset memory? if they are all on the SD card , i would try to move the apps to main memory.. to rule out the cards.

short of a factory reset......... :(

I remember the google goggles was on main memory (I hadn't moved it to SD yet). But soundhound and translate were on the SD...

You are right though - I will try out a factory reset later today. The only thing I will lose is the PVZ game progress - everything else is backed up. Oh well...

Looks like I am the only one experiencing this issue (nobody else chimed in with this)... so if the factory reset doesn't fix this, I'll go to the sprint store and see if they can figure it out - or swap the phone out.

Thanks for the feedback :)

it sometimes happen to me where the app icon is gone or the icon is here but when I click on it it says it is not installed. the "fix"I found for that was just to restart the phone and everything is back to normal.

When this happens, if you go to applications (under settings), is the app present there (before restarting the phone)? In my case, the app is just gone...
