Hello 2 masters of all things cool w/droid. First, Im a neeeeeeewbie, so b gentle. I have a stock evo 4g (2.3.3) as well as stock 3D. Both purchased around the same time (2 1/2 weeks ago) Both have not been OTA updated. After reading your forums Ive read mixed reviews. My question is, in your opinion, which would you root and why? Which has more potential once rooted? I also have a 3rd evo 4g, same as above stated. Not sure if i should root all the phones, and sell lesser on craigslist, ebay, etc. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. thanx so much for ur time!

The 3d blows the 4g out of the water. Once rooted i average about 2700 in quadrant the battery is get is far better than I ever got with the 4g. I went from 4g to 3d and have never looked back. I was running sense 3.0 roms on the 4g and the 3d is far faster. 1.2 ghz dual core, 1 gb ram and added a 32 gb micro sd card with out the read write restrictions as the 4g make the 3d a beast. But that's mho

Welcome to the forums!

We were all new once, so never sweat any questions around here.

I would recommend that you root both phones using the revolutionary.io method. Also, because you're new to rooting, maybe you should just stick with the stock rooted rom until you're comfortable with the whole rooted environment. If you decide to sell one, then the stock rooted rom leaves less confusion for potential buyers.

Also, you have choices on which recovery to install - I'd stick with Clockwork Mod because you can put it on both phones and that will lower confusion as well. You'll only have to learn one recovery tool instead of two, in other words.

Once you have the basics of rooting down, then you can play around and customize each phone to its full potential.

The Evo is a great phone but the 3vo is better in many ways, especially speed, battery life and flexibility.

Hope this helps!

Where do I find the software and proper instructions for these? Plz, any, ALL, help will be greatly appreciated. I purchased 4 evo 4gs 2 weeks ago (2.3.3 gingerbread, but yet to update OTA. (confused if good?bad) for full root. This was done as an investment to fully root then sell, yet all im doing is sitting on 4 new expensive phones....:-(

I remember when I was like, which one is root? the access or the sd card?

I would suggest using cwm and grabbing rommanager if you want to flash some ROMs. makes it easier. i use twrp on the 3d because I'm actually in the recovery a lot and like its features, but cwm on my no-radio hero because it's easier to use rommanager with it.

OK, the best place to start is at the beginning, and trust me, the best way to start is by going slowly at first. Don't worry - you'll be up to speed in no time.

First - here is how you get to your HBOOT on your phone (it's not a BIOS, but if you think like BIOS on a PC, that's just close enough for now):

Homescreen, Menu, Settings, Power - if there's a thing that says Fastboot, uncheck it.

Power off, wait a half minute. Then power on while holding volume down - let go if the led flashes.

You will see a screen showing your HBOOT version - this will work for the Evos or the Evo 3D.

See if those numbers from your phones match up with the info here:

Report back.
