This method (initially discovered for the Droid 3 by djrbliss) has been proven to work on the Droid X, so you can be on stock GB and root it according to p3Droid:

P3Droid P3Droid
The droid 3 root method will work on all moto droid ohones running gingerbread.

P3Droid P3Droid
The moto root exploit works on cliq, cliq2, dx, dx2, d3 - all confirmed so far.

One-click method, read post number #2:

I have been following this as my son has a D3 and I have been waiting to root this for him so he can have some of the great apps out there.

This is even bigger news as if looks to have rooted all of the Motorola devices running Gingerbread. Hopefully there is not time to patch the Bionic before it is released. Not that I am getting one, but development on any phone is good for all of us.

I'm just glad the D3 method works on the DX too, otherwise we most likely would have never seen this :D

Steven, now your soon can root his D3 too :D

^^ exactly. He asked me to let me him know. :)

Edit: Probably will be less than a week before someone comes out with z4-type app to do this. :D

Have to say that today has been a good day so far. We have a one-click root for the X on GB and my fiancee told me earlier that my 2 Touchpad 32GB versions were delivered today :D:D:D

Only wish it was Friday so I could start play with my Touchpads sooner with no interruptions :D

Must you really rub that in here? I tried and tried to get one, alas, to no avail. Stupid feeding frenzy. Worse than a bleeding seal in open waters!

Does this have to be done everytime you reboot?

1. Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
2. Download and unzip ‘Droid 3 easy root script v5′ - [Download 1-Click]
3. On your phone: Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging(check box)
4. Plug phone into computer and select “Charge Only” mode
5. Navigate to ‘Droid 3 easy root’ folder and run ‘Click to root your Droid 3.bat’
6. Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot.

Original post on RootzWiki

As an FYI on this particular DroidX. Recently this phone was completely sbfd to froyo, then an official OTA to a clean stock .602 with a 13p radio. This was as clean 100% stock as you can get on the .602 13p, so this is the poo take a big whiff.

Should be waaaay less that that...the exploit is dead-simple.

The exploit itself involves adb, but should not actually require adb to implement.

If this isn't published by someone by Sunday, I'll write the .apk myself ;).

edit: don't think this is possible at this time; djrbliss' exploit does indeed require using adb to implement the exploit since the shell created via adb get's special permissions that other shells do not (see this post http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/403069-exploit-root-dx-gb-without-2-part-aio-tbh-files-one-click-method-now-included-2.html#post3132259 for more details).

No. As the exploit runs, your phone will reboot and it will wait for it to restart then automatically run the 2nd, 3rd etc. Very simple, literally 1 click. Also the screen tells you everything, what it is doing and when it is rebooting, etc.
