Root CM7 - What happens during boot and how can we edit it?

So I'm running CM7 (nightly 164) on my Evo and noticed for a device with no moving parts it takes 3 mins to reboot. My 7 year old desktop is faster.

So I know there's different things going on. I'm sure it's authenticating with carriers and like things but what's going on when the kernel boots and can I edit it?

I've seen references to init.d in other forums but I'm at a loss for finding specifics.

Is a CM7 kernel pretty lean? Should I just leave it alone? 2-3 mins normal for a reboot on a Evo?

have you tried wiping dalvik cache and cache?
i was on cm7 it was pretty fast and smooth. i have not tried the nightlies however.

As per your instructions for flashing, yep.

CM7 itself once booted rocks. No prob there. I'm just trying to learn about it's boot process to see if there's things I can turn off.

I just stopped using CM7 this week, and it rebooted and turned on just fine. It wasn't three minutes for sure. It was like, hit the power button, set phone down, grab clothes, phone is on. I'd say about a minute, probably less.

It would be great to have something like the windows "Services" app where you can set things to "Disable", "Automatic" or " Manual".
