Rogers LG Eve Android Update

Further to comments from @litui, I've fired off an email to Sheryl in the hopes that I can get some answers on how users can report bugs to LG. We all know Rogers, doesn't give a shit because their stand will be that it is a device problem and should be handled by the manufacturer, in this case LG.

Let's see what Sheryl suggests and I'll keep you guys updated on it!

HI Sheryl,

If users of the LG Eve phones are currently experiencing bugs and glitches, what is the path they should take in getting those bugs/glitches noted so that LG can investigate these further and try to fix these for users?

There are numerous customers who have the Eve who have reported numerous problems ranging from screen display freezing to SD card not getting mounted properly. These issues hinders the usage of the exceptional device which is the Eve.

Sources: LG Eve - no display - Android Forums & LG EVE - sd card not mounted - Android Forums

Thanks as always for staying on top of this for us Eve and Android users!

Puleen

Cheers!

It's good to see LG is going to upgrade the firmware to 1.6 but I don't know if that will fix the issues of the current hardware have. Biggest issue is the phone freezes frequently, in my case 2 to 3 times a day. 2nd biggest issue is battery drainage. Fully charged in the morning and by afternoon, it's completely done with data and wifi turned off.

Is it really that bad? Is it in constant use for that half-day? I am getting one sent to me in a few days so I can't try it with mine, but i would've thought it would have been better than that? My old Motorola RAZ last about 5 or 6 days with a single charge and it's battery is over 3 years old.

Awesome news about the update, wonder how that will work though, will they trust the end user to do the update or will we have to ship them back to them?

No constant use. Infact it's idling. This is my second unit and it's doing the same thing. I've done anything i can to save the battery power. Previously i owned a dream, so i know droid menu inside out. It's definitely hardware problem.

Android 1.6 is supposed to have much battery management. I know the dream running cyanogen Rom at 1.6 is much better than the stock 1.5.

@Palantir: In this thread you can see the settings I use for my Magic. http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/6423-power-saver-modes-android-battery-life.html

If you have any more questions about using your LG eve, you will find there is a sub-forum all about the LG Eve, and the general Android Lounge is full of helpful people.

We would like to try to keep this thread on topic about any possible update to the Rogers LG Eve above Android 1.5. Thanks!
will do...

I don't know what's going on with your battery...

I've been running my Eve for a few months and I get about 2 full days on a battery charge. (It usually finally goes down around 8pm on day 2) -- and that's with it polling for email and facebook periodically (and me looking at those emails and FB posts, and often doing quick lookups on the weather network and whatnot) and WiFi on when I'm at home.

I wouldn't normally comment on someone else's battery profile, since it's all about usage, but if you're finding that you're losing power to that extent on standby, then I *would* argue that there's something wrong.

I know its not the update we want, but LG has updated the firmware from V10c to 10f. If you go to the LG Canada website and goto the service part of the Eve, there is a drivers download section where you can get the newest drivers for the Eve and also the software that allows you to update the firmware. I have done it already and haven't really found that much of a difference other than the space bar button while texting works a lot better.

Hey! thanks for the heads-up about the firmware upgrade... that space-key problem was driving me to madness!

Could you post the specific URL for the page where you found the update? I keep getting redirected back to a 'don't we have cool products' page every time I try to navigate around the LG website to find their service section (holy cow, that's gotta be one of the most frustrating sites I have ever had the misfortune to visit!)

Cheers!

Try this. LG Product Support for GW620R

If it doesn't work, just goto the LG canada site and start with the support page, then under phones and pick the eve and it should take you right to this site. Just fair warning it took me a bit to install this. Make sure your SD card is taken out and while in the LG software you have to goto the options tab and change the country to canada, then don't try the updating option, use the recovery option and you'll have to type in your SN and it will open a new software window. It will take 30mins approx but so far it fixes the space bar issue, nothing with battery life or anything else that I have noticed.

Good luck all.

For those that want the Windows 7 procedure for the firmware here it is;

unplug USB cable
Unmount SD Card
Dial 3845#*620# to activate hidden menus
Select Modem Settings
turn QCRIL/Android Log On

Plug USB Cable

Hey Guys...

I tried to do the update on my XP machine and got an error after it finished the update software download so I tried it on my Windows 7 machine and whenever I click on update phone, the software askes me to disconnect the the phone to install the drivers.. After reinstalling the drivers and the software asking me to connect my phone, I click on the update button and I asked to disconnect my phone to install the drivers again.. Just going around and round.. Oh well

Received an email from Sheryl Davey from High Road communications the PR firm representing LG Canada.

There is a maintenance release for the Eve which can be downloaded from LG Product Support for GW620R. Note this is not the actual Android 1.6 update. The actual Android 1.6 update from her email is coming in Spring.

I've asked her to provide an actual date for when customers can expect the 1.6 update. Moreover, I've asked the following:

Thank you very much for this update. Would you (or LG) be able to provide
an exact date of when users can expect 1.6 for their Eve devices? Moreover,
had LG given any consideration or evaluation of whether or not the Eve can
be (or will be) upgraded to Android 2.1? If not, what would be the reason
why the Eve would not be able to get an Android 2.1 update.

Did you turn the USB debug mode?

1. Debug mode in your LG eve is to keep it ON for developer
2. Try to use XP for the installation as there is less protection
3. In XP installation, disregarding the 2nd-restart-request and see if the program actually activated in the back screen; then press the related button to update your LG

4. for speed-up your LG eve, your better remove your POP mail and download K-9 mail from the market - However, you must set the pull time at least 30 min (or even 1 or 2 hours) for power saving. (please use K-9 version 2.4 from the market only - other later verisons from the google project site are having bugs)

What's with all the talk about removing your SD card and enterig debuging mode? I installed the update 2 weeks ago without any problems whatsoever. I did not have to remove my SD card or anything. It took 26 minutes to update.

The spacebar problem is fixed so are the ultra-sensitive home and back keys. The battery seems to last a bit longer for me. The Facebook app was updated to the latest version. The unmounting SD card problem is also fixed.

I still cannot find a changelog anywhere.

Do you guys think it'd be worth it to spring for the eve?
I have a hardware upgrade due on monday, and my phone is acting up, so I'd like a new one a.s.a.p.
Sorry for the quick derail. I'm just curious... It just seems like you have to fight just to get something that the service provider, and manufacturer should be providing to the consumer...

Is everyone going to push for a 2.0/2.1 update as well?
Is there anything that I'd be able to do to help push any upgrades?

P.s, I'm new to the forum, been lurking here for quite a while... It's very informative!
I'm looking forward to learning stuff from everyone here!

IMO stay clear of the eve. Wait for the X10 or the asus. Maybe you can find another phone to use till then but stay clear of the eve. Chances are its stuck at 1.5.

I don't want to exactly shell out 200 for the X10, but it would be an awesome phone to own.. I haven't heard anything about the asus.

Rogersmary says that the eve is being upgraded to 1.6 on the rogers site on a few of the reviews for the phone... and I kinda can't wait. (impatience mainly. :p)
