i think everyone should try gingerbread...!

hey guys i just flashed to 2.3.4 and the results are amazing...!
like others i was also afraid to flash as it was first time...

1.i have not rooted my mini yet(afraid that warranty will be void)...
on froyo the qudrant benchmark score was 531 but after flashing to gb its 967(...!)..antutu score is 1559.. don't know how much it was before in froyo..angry birds and other games much smoothly on gb..

2.actually i had around 31 apps installed when i was using froyo and out of 160mb of phone memory only 70mb was free and before flashing i backed all apps using astro file manager and reinstalled all of them after upgrading gb..to my surprise i still have 123mb free phone memory even after installing all of them(..:D)..this a single reason why you should upgrade to gb..

3.i know if you install cm7(or any custom roms) you can still increase the device performance, but its a bit easier to flash using odin(and safe)..

4.i know there are many people(like me) who don't want to root the phone and are afraid in trying custom roms but yet want to improve their phone's performance,so for them gb is a must..

hope it helps..:D

I really really want gingerbread, but I am afraid to loose my 2 year warranty. My phone is 1 week old. Suppose I install gingerbread, could i re install my orange romania firmware afterwards if I needed to? and how

Warranty does not cover software, it covers hardware.

If you want to go back to your orange romania firmware you will have to either back up the current firmware or find it on the net somewhere.

As long as you can back up the firmware, then yes you can go back to it if you need to

To back up you will need to install CWM RECOVERY from here [DEV] [Samsung GT-S5570] [ROM & Kernel] Unofficial Cyanogenmod 7 - xda-developers

And the main purpose of that is to install custom roms, that is the only way to back up and that is a FAR more complicated way of doing things rather than just upgrading to gingerbread directly without installing CWM Recovery.

I would recommend you upgrade to gingerbread without trying to make a back up, (Because it is alot less complicated and safer) if you need to go back to froyo you can find many froyo firmware from News - www.SamFirmware.com including Provider Samsung S5570 Firmwares (I assume this are original firmwares like the one you want to back up)

However upgrading to gingerbread means you will no longer be able to update through kies, you will have to use odin software unless you find an official froyo firmware to use on odin, then you could update through kies

Correction to my last post, you will be able to update gingerbread (S5570SERKPK) through kies, i just tried.

No worries mate, you might be waiting a very long for an update through kies as you've got a branded orange, samsung only release updates for unbranded first, then gotta wait for networks like orange to put their bloatware on it then send it back to samsung for update through kies. long process

Okay so i've spend the day downloading and trying several firmwares and i can confirm a few things.

Firmware CSC_EXT-VDFKA5 under Provider Samsung S5570 Firmwares is a vodafone branded froyo firmware.

My first initial gingerbread firmware is CSC - S5570SERKPI, this works 100% but i had two problems,

1. the default language was russian, that is okay because you can change it

2. I couldn't use internet or send text messages without options "Use packet data" and "Use 2G only" BOTH ENABLED at the same time.

I've now gone onto CSC - S5570SERKPK, the latest from News - www.SamFirmware.com and all is working great, same problems as before with the data and 2G only and russian language as default. Kies recognize KPK just fine although there are no updates for it yet.

Hello suicidallooney
-I will install driver thru Kies.
-I found *.ops file from samfirmware.com they are all the same version right? I got the one with file size 105kb and using it with the rest of the files as Small_town_boy tutorial.
-I am actually already reading your post regarding recovering from brick at http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-mini-s5570/403479-q-samsung-galaxy-mini-s5570l-bricked.html

Wish I can add you thru my jmerilo at gmail dot com

Thanks!

-Reinstalled drivers.
-Odin Can detect the phone when powered on during driver test it say Com9 but in device driver port it says com10
-Odin cant detec phone when pressing the three keys then plug into the pc

Is my phone totally bricked?

Is there a way to still recover from this?

Thanks :(
