I know you can change the alert sound for gmail on the INC2 because it was set to a custom ringtone that was driving me nuts. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change it. I am running Launcher Pro paid version on the stock version.

Help please lol. If I go into settings and personalize, as soon as I hit personalize it takes me back to the homescreen.

Thanks,

Glenn

Go into the gmail app itself hit menu> more> settings> notification settings> select ringtone. This is were you can change it.
I have multiple accounts that all have different notification sounds.
Hope that helps!

I have Gmail 2.3.5 on Froyo 2.2 on my Incredible. NOWHERE is there a place to change the ringtone. There used to be, but not anymore. Your path above USED to do it, but when I follow it, there is no such place called "notification settings> select ringtone". Apologies in advance if I'm being dense, but I've spent a lot of time searching and there is NO place to change the new mail ringtone.

I have Gingerbread not Froyo but maybe try:

Settings -> Personalize -> Notification Sound -> Email. You can set the Default notification, Message, calendar and email notification sound.

Thanks for the reply. In general phone settings, I have a choice to set my default notification, but that's for everything (score updates, breaking news, etc), but not for any message, mail, or calendar action.

This setting is available to me (Gingerbread), but has no effect on Gmail. I have some default sound that does not change. Maybe their "Email" is referencing the HTC email, not gmail.

I just RMA'D my old Thunderbolt, and I also ran into this problem with the updated Gmail. The correct path is Gmail>menu>more>settings>(your account name)>labels to notify>inbox>then click on ringtone. It doesn't look like a clickable link, but it is. That is what threw me off.

I believe the email notification sound in the phones settings is for the phones stock email service (ie the one that you would use to check yahoo, msn, etc.)

Hope this helps.

Thanks!! I would never have found that setting. Being old and having memory problems, I'll have to write that down and paste it on my forehead.

This is great and new for me.

Now I can make a special message tone for my most important client from whom I do not wish to miss any mail.

1. In Gmail make label "important cients name"
2. Filter in gmail so mails from him get labeled as above.

3 In the android phone go to the settings for labels in the mail menu.:
The correct path is Gmail>menu>more>settings>(your account name)>labels to notify>inbox>then click on ringtone. (thanx xdarmercx)

How to make the ringtone.
1. Install Ringdroid
2. Hit new recording. Speak the text: Mail from important client xx
3. Save as Message tone with name :"message from xx"

Wow!

^^ I know the above been posted again and thanked, but this made my day. Registered on the forum just to say Thank YOU! :)

That was the most round-about way to do the most simple thing, but it was driving me nuts! Yours was the best answer yet.
