This is my first such phone (or first real smarty pants phone to be exact), so bear with me
I've been using it for two weeks now and i'm quite enjoying it, but as always, there's pros, cons and some undiscovered goodies to experience.
I haven't been looking too much into the Market yet (nor this forum), since i haven't felt like having enough spare time. Also, there seems to be a lot of choices for different types of apps there and i'm still quite baffled about that i suppose. Don't feel like trying every single one of them really.
Here's a few thoughts, requests and some points of genuine wonder:
1. There's only one type of application i'm really looking for at this point, and that would be a proper music player / equalizer / volume controller. My main problem is that the volume is controlled natively by only 15 steps and that's clearly not enough for my needs. There's often the problem with my music (loud more-or-less-extreme metal), that on one step the volume is just a tad too low and on the next it's barely too loud. And sadly more often i settle with the louder choice (since metal is not background music
. I had this problem with my old phone too (but not with such drastic differences), but i got around it by fine-tuning all the equalizer levels according to my needs per album.
You see, my old phone was Sony Ericsson W890i and there was a lot of love towards it's the music player (Walkman) and how it was all handled in the phone, in it's buttons and in the accessories. I would like to bring some of it's smoothness back to HD aswell (i'll learn coding if necessary
). Foobar might be fine too, but i haven't tested how it works on android yet.
So:
- Is there a way to expand the default 15 volume steps to double or even triple? I wouldn't have to resort on toying with equalizers. If the expanding isn't possible (though i'm guessing it definitely is), then might there be an app that changes how those 15 steps are distributed? For example, the volume would increase sufficiently alot per each step when progressing from mute upwards, and the steps would gradually get smaller towards the maximum volume. More precise volume control there.
- In W890i, i loved the function how you could hold down either of the volume buttons for a second or so, and i would jump to the upcoming or previous song respectively. No need to wake up the screen.
- What ways are there to maybe make the "sound better" with plug-ins and additions (specific to the music player in use, i'm guessing)?
2. Rooting? I'm guessing it's "hacking" or opening the phone for more customized features (similar like plucking a 25 year old nun-in-solitary for the first time?). One you get down to the roots, is there a way back (when it comes to warranty)?
3. What every android newbie should install and understand regarding the phone and everything around it?
Here's how i've experienced the phone so far:
Pros: Fast, snappy interface. Feels very robust in all aspects, down to the physical casing. Surfing on internet (and having a flash support!) is just great. Google maps <3. Pleasantly open platform to explore and exploit
Cons: Not too amazing camera (though i don't expect much from phones in general), surprisingly fast power consumption (or small battery actually), some bugs and slight annoyances (lost about 2000 sms message because of a system update, or that's what i think the reason was).
Tiny thing, but i don't like how i need to wake up the phone with pressing the power button AND by dragging the screen lock down. The latter part feels a bit too extra, and somewhat gimmicky necessarity at that. But i suppose it quite well eliminates any accidental actions in the pocket though (like calling your boss or grandma around 3am when partying, which is nice).
There was more to it, but i lost the track of it (yes, you can have that sigh of relief now. Sorry for typing so excessively, hopefully there was atleast some genuine real info here and there. On the other hand though, i cannot help myself with the flooding most often. I wonder how many "sorries" i still have in stock.
