K-9 Email

I think the Droid's email system SUCKS. Unless you use G mail for all your email, it continuously downloads deleted emails, over and over and over.

PLEASE don't suggest I forward my mail to G mail, that just sends two years worth of emails to my G mail account. Wouldn't you think Moto could get email done as well as BB? NEVER had this problem on my BB.

Sorry for the Rant. My question is, has anyone used K-9 mail and will it solve my problem above in my rant? AKA will it only download NEW emails?

I use K-9 and have since early December or late November. It does a great job for me with my Cox Cable pop3 and my AT&T pop3. The closest thing to a problem I had was getting the STMP setup right for Cox. They block the commonly used port 25 and they told me they don't provide support for cell phone usage. Somebody finally found a server port that worked for sending cox emails and all has been great since. K-9's recent upgrade that allows batch operations, such as deleting all, has really made it easier to use. Good luck.

Will it solve the problem of the constant downloading of deleted emails, deleted that is on the droid and not the server? How hard is it to set up? Thanks in advance

K-9 Mail has proven fairly stable, esp. when compared to the native email app. However there are those who find it missing some features.

When searching topics with short names, or symbols, use " ".

"K-9 mail"

I switched to K-9 on my first day after getting the Droid two weeks ago. I have to say that it is "better", but still far from being a usable email client. I had a BB for years before this Droid, and email is absolutely painful on the Droid, even with K-9.

Maybe it's because I'm using POP for both hotmail and godaddy, but I can't confirm this. I won't forward the email to gmail because the two accounts are for two separate activities (personal vs. business).

If I could access folders, I would be ecstatic, but I can't. I use Outlook on my computer to access both POP accounts, and when I delete something from my inbox (on the computer) it causes my Droid to reload an old message and think it's new (causing it to chirp -- annoying).

I'd be willing to pay $100 for an app if it could handle email as seamlessly as my old BB.

A few comments regarding K-9 Mail.

First of all, I use it for ALL of my POP email accounts and I really like the app. Not perfect, but far better than the stock Gmail and Email apps.

Second, I always update using their DOWNLOADS page. They seem to lag far behind with their Market updates. Although, probably rightfully so as a lot of their updates are beta versions.

Lastly, you may want to play with using either POP or IMAP settings for your Gmail account. If you simply setup Gmail when you first open K-9, it defaults to an IMAP account. You can change this later on manually.

I just installed K9, and I have a few questions:

1) I currently have all my main email routed through GMail. Is there a way in K9 to change the left sidebar color based upon the folder within GMail? Or, will I have to set up each account within K9 and delete the secondary accounts from GMail?
2) I saw a certificate error when I first set up K9 with my Gmail information. I refused the certificate, and my emails seem to be downloading OK, but I am getting a lot of K9mail-errors ("Folder XXX is not open", "Push error: null", "Command SELECT", etc.). What is going wrong?
3) With my current configuration, is there a way to make sure that when I respond to an email, it comes from the account I received it on?

Thanks!

I use the stock email app for my roadrunner email account, and have never had the problem of it downloading deleted emails over and over again like some of you have had. In fact, it works just like I would expect it to. Why is this not a problem for me, but it is for so many others?

When the Droid was first released, the native email clients had numerous issues. The application itself was not stable, and mail delivery was inconsistent at best. Many have moved on to 3rd party email clients and have never looked back...aside from it lacking certain features.

The recent OS updates may have resolved most/many email issues, but many people who found fault with the native app, may not be using it "now".

I've been using K-9 Mail Beta for six weeks now, coming straight from a Bold. I have no duplicates, crashes or any other problem with K-9; in fact I had the duplicated problem with the Bold, which was something to do with the connection to Outlook.

I've mentioned it before in a few posts, but mail arrives faster via K-9 than it does to my work PC. Push is the only real solution for business users.

I can also access all my desktop e-mail folders.

Pop3 and IMAP - works like a dream!

Yesterday I relaid out K-9 with my individual email accounts. I now get unique sidebar colors for each email account. I also see that my indicator light flashes with the color of the email account when a message arrives (VERY Cool!)

However, I'm still getting frequent "Timeout" and other errors with K-9, especially with my GMail account.

Help! :eek::eek::eek:

I like your name :)

Thanks

Geezer = old
Squid = fast (especially in curves) motorcycle rider.

Rode for 44 years. Gave it up last year after lapse in attention led to several get-offs. I don't heal as quickly as I used to.

Now that I think about it, I gave up drinking 20 years ago for the same reason (lapse in attention led to several get-offs. I don't heal as quickly as I used to). :D

Are you setting up gmail with K-9 through the "manual" setup, or "automatic"? You may need to lookup POP3/IMAP settings on the google mail help pages to make sure your settings are correct.

For curiosity sake, why would you setup your Gmail account outside of the native "Gmail app"? From what I remember, the "Gmail" app was much more stable/robust than K-9.

Love my K-9 email but have one major issue. Any email that is forwarded to you does not show the original sender. Unless they put thier name at the bottom you don't know who it came from, and unless you already know their email address, you can't reply.

Otherwise I love it and do use it as my default email client

How do I stop K9 from deleting existing messages on my phone when I check for new messages? I've downloaded email to my PC and wish to stop K9 from deleting messages on the phone after I've dowloaded those same email messages to my PC.

I wish to retain all messages and manually delete them from my phone when no longer needed. Often times when I'm traveling, I may think of something that I want to send a customer/prospect after I've retreived emails on my PC.

How can I have K9 store email messages on my storage card?
