DROID Bionic And Accessory Bundle Costco Discussion Thread (Including Q&A from YankeeDudeL)

Question,

If I am currently not a Verizon customer, and I want to goto Costco on the 8th to buy the phone and sign up for Verizon service, plus transfer my current number over, would it be possible?

Absolutely. Porting numbers is usually not an issue. And we love new lines of service.

Yankee,

First of all, thanks again for all the time your willing to give to help all of us, lol.

While nobody can 1000% confirm yet if this deal is real, is there any kind of timeframe to know if it is/isn't? Like will it be advertised starting only on drop day, or before etc.?

No prob. I'm glad to give back to a community that's given me so much. Kumbaya my lord....

Hard to say. My KM knows how badly I want (and need) this phone so even if I'm not working he'll shoot me a text. I'll def know something by Wednesday. And when I know, you'se will know.

Everyone okay with leaving this thread separate or would you prefer me merging with other posts.

If I merge, I can easily add YankeeDudeL's first post on this thread to the first post in the merged thread.

Let me know, either way, and I'll go with the majority.

I don't mind either way. As long as everyone who has questions about Costco know where to look. I'm getting a lot of PMs from lurkers with very few posts. So whatever's gonna be easier for everyone.

Thanks for answering my question, but when you say "account" do you mean a Costco or VZW account? Basically it seems that I (not a costco member) can walk with someone who is a costco member and have them buy me the phone...is that correct?

I'm glad to help.

I meant Verizon account in that instance. If you're going in with a Costco member, they don't have to pay for the phone, you still can. But they'll need to see their Costco card when you purchase the phone at the register.

lol

One, is this deal real? I have no idea. lol It's not been verified to me. This is what I do know. My kiosk is under the impression that it is. Earlier this month, there was a meeting between Costco and Wireless Advocates in Seattle, WA (where Wireless Advocates is based out of). Our Costco's store manager and our regional manager were on hand. As was the Bionic.

We were told that Costco was going to make a huge push on this phone. This meant accessories (though we weren't sure which), and advertising (which other than it's coupon book that they send out every three weeks, they don't do).

What I do know is that the Bionic is in our inventory list, with a SKU # and a price listing as $300. This can only mean one of three things:

1) As we know the price is $300 at VZW and we always beat their prices, then this will be the price of the phone PLUS the bundle.

2) This is the price of the phone before having a rebate applied.

3) Both.

As I've stated elsewhere, we don't get a whole lot of inside information. Almost none, really. I get most of what I know from the same places you guys do. So I can't confirm that this phone will come out on the 8th (despite every one of our channels pointing to that), that we'll have it on drop day (which every channel also points to), or whether this will be the deal when it does (again, each channel points to it). But I'm pretty confident that I'm going to have a Droid Bionic with the bundle a week from today.

So, by 'both' you mean he can go pick up the phones and accessories and change the plans, all without activation?

I don't know if everyone knows this, but Costco only accepts American Express or CASH transactions. So make sure you have the appropriate payment for your phone!!! NO DEBIT CARDS!!!

I think you mean no credit cards. Because they charge a fee with those.

From what I remembered, the last time I purchased something at Costco (I don't have a membership), I had to use my debit card because it was under my family member's account. So I agree, I think it's credit cards that they don't accept.

YankeeDudeL might be able to confirm.

It's true that the only credit card accepted is American Express. However, you CAN use a debit card. As long as it has a pin number to put in. I used my Bank of America debit card with the lil Visa on it just yesterday. :D

Also, if you sign up for Auto Bill Pay on an American Express, you'll get a $10 Costco Cash Card in the mail.

What is the return policy at Costco? If I buy the bionic can i return it and get something else when it comes out?

Verizon's policy is that you can return a phone for a diff model up to 14 days after your purchase. After that, you have until up to 30 days to return the phone for the same exact phone in the case that you got a lemon. After 30 days, you fall under the manufacturer's warranty for a year.

Costco's policy differs in that instead of 30 days, you have 90 days. It's one of the benefits of being a Costco member.

Yeah, that'd be nice. lol

By "both" I mean that no where on that flyer does it say $300. So there still exists a possibility that this deal could very well be less than that. Highly doubtful for all that, but hey, never know.

Yankee,
When you know, would it be possible to inform us if the premium accessories in the offer (car dock, home dock, battery/charger) are OEM quality?

Judging by that flyer, which is all I have to go on right now, it looks like those accessories are all OEM. But when I know, you'll know.

Dragma took care of that for me. lol

Pretty sure I can get a Costco card but not sure I can get that person to come with me when I buy. Do they have the self check-out machines like BJs? I just don't want to get all the way to the check-out and be denied because it's not my card.

None of the 30 or so Costco stores I've been to has had a self checkout.

I've only ever been in ours, but we don't. Doubt we would so they can verify membership. Besides, those cashiers make pretty decent money, they're not giving that up. :p

Thanks for the assist. Wasn't going to add that last part, lol. :D

My main question is this! I understand you are locked into contract after 30 days at Costco. Contract meaning no new phone at subsidized price or what?

It's all gravy, you're new so you get a pass. ;) And welcome to AF!

Technically speaking you're locked into contract the moment you sign it. You have 14 days to exchange the phone for a diff device. You have 90 to exchange for the same device if something were wrong with it. But, as many people here will tell you, most WSEs will exchange the phone. However, it's frowned upon like pleasuring yourself on an airplane.

Does costco require a phone to stay on the same line with same plan/features for 6 months like Amazon, lets talk, wirefly etc?

I'm thinking about upgrading one of the lines on my account that currently has a dumb phone and an upgrade due. Get the bionic, and get the $100 statement credit from verizon, and immediately switching the bionic onto my line and a dumb phone back onto that line. will that work? :)

ROFLMAO...I should edit that, but just too funny, in context, to do so (at least right now).

YankeeDudeL, when do you think you'll have an idea how long the accessories bundle deal will last? Do you normally know on launch day, or do you think they'll just say one day "Today's the last day."???

I kinda already know, actually. In our planning email the other day, they gave us pricing on a few diff phones that we're featuring and for how long. The Bionic's (and I'm assuming the accessory bundle) initial price point should be through September 28th. I would imagine after that the bundle will be pulled and the Bionic will go down in price.

That's def a new one on me as that deal just started, but I can fathom an educated guess. You could probably do that with no issue, but you'd have to keep the data on that line. Dropping it would disqualify that line from it's upgrade and credit.

Well, it's better than the exact Hangover quote. lol
